Dark Wizard Games Mail Call & Review Of Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee For Your Old School Campaigns

Downstream from the village of Silt is a great marsh created by a massive flood long ago. Many treasures were lost and now lay buried in the ruins of these cursed and water soaked lands. There are rumors that smugglers and criminals hide their felonious activities and great wealth here, but there is more to fear in the mist than the designs of men. Something sinister lurks in the darkness of the bogs. Find your courage, sharpen your blade, and trust no one and you may just survive the Dread Swamp of the Banshee."

Alright I have to admit that the kickstarter for Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee passed right under my radar. My friend Mark Taormino sent me a completely unexpected package! Well that was completely unexpected! And absolutely welcome.. And right away I notice that Mark & co are being very careful with their packaging.

The
Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee cover artwork really pops & grabs you by the throat. The cover artwork is top notch holding your attention. This is a good sized module clocking in at forty eight pages for PC's 4-8th level & Dark Wizard games means it!

The cartography and the layout here is top notch. The columns, wording, and even the font is solidly laid out for older eyes like mine. Keep in mind that this would be an excellent mini campaign for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons first edition.

The writing is crisp & the descriptions sharp enough to keep the player's attentions during play this is a big factor with both the old crowd & the newer fifth edition players that I've found. Wording here moves the adventure plot along quickly & crsiply. The material here is very much in the vein of the old school. Meaning that Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee is a perfect retroclone adventure for any Advanced Dungeons & Dragons retroclone.

Yeah there's a Frazetta homage here big time in the artwork..

This means that the party of adventurers is going to be in for the time of thier lives if they live through the game play. We're not talking sweating the small encounters here but the whole affair of Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee . This is a playable but nasty little run of an adventure but its one that has the drag & drop into it quilities of other Dark Wizard's Maximum Mayhem Dungeons.
The artwork, layout, etc. has improved in each & every Dark Wizards products that I've noticed.

Make no mistake about it encounters are lethal. The module is definitely old school & mayhem is here in spades. Everything in Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee  pops with Sword & Sorcery goodness.
I'd give this a five outta of five when it comes to a well thought out module. The plot, framework, action, encounters, etc. all of the parts & pieces move here very well. Joe Pearce the writer designer does a fine job of taking on the Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee & turning in a solidly good module! Even the PDF for 10.00 is solidly done.

So how does a dungeon master use
Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee  at the table top level & for what classic or OSR systems to run this with. Well first of all B/X Dungeons & Dragons or the  Adventurer, Conqueror, King rpg would be perfect to run this adventure with.
Why?! Claiming back valuable terrority from the monsters for resettlement. There's plenty of opportunity for PC's here to set themselves up as petty royals & have a piece of the pie.

Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee would make an excellent follow up to the beginning adventure within Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea's rpg second edition adventure 'The Black Moss Hag of Lug". The environs around Lug are preyed upon by the Dread Swamp Banshee. The details will have to be worked out by the DM. This would work!
Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee could be used as a solid mid teir adventure for Dungeon Crawl Classics as the PC's are pitted against the dread swamp banshee.
The real draw is Castles & Crusades where the dread swamp banshee is a perfect antagonist against the horrors of
Maximum Mayhem Dungeons #7: Dread Swamp of the Banshee. Here the qualities of C&C really shine as this is a perfect mid tier adventure for that game system with some minor modification.
