OSR Commentary - Weird Tales Judges Guild Wilderlands of High Fantasy - The Enemy of My Enemy Is A Caveman Barbarian

Lately Judge's Guilds Wilderlands of High Fantasy has been on the table top in for an extended period. Now let's dive down into the fact that there's several OSR titles that can enhance play at the table top level. Now if you've been paying attention to yesterday's blog entry then you know we're concentrating on the barbarian tribes living on the fringes of the Wildlands Blackmoor.

If we assume that there's a Nexus Gate to other alternative planes prime then let's assume that 13th or 14th century Europe might be in the offering as a destination or as a jump point into Blackmoor. This means that barbarian hordes might be a real threat to this version of Dark Europe!

What if I told you that there was a free OSR  resource that enhances many of the Lamentations of the Flame Prince & B/X Dungeons & Dragons systems as well as their retroclones. Christopher Tamm's Stone Age Sorcery is exactly such an enhancement that really works very well to bring on the prehistoric pain for a campaign. You've got brand new encounter charts, random magic items, etc. all for free & easily used with Stone Age Sorcery

Stone Age Sorcery works great for bringing in the prehistoric as a viable campaign setting for both Lamentations & OSR style games with the Wilderlands. Perhaps its the prehistoric barbarian tribes that have been getting uppity  with the City State of the Invincible Overlord.

These same tribes have been expanding into Dark Europe so the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The city state may negotiate with Europe for black powder weapons & advisors to use these weapons. And such a group of diplomats & advisors is going to need bodyguards & explorers. This is where Lamentations can come in very handy. And what about Astonishing Swordmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea?! That's the icing on the cake here.. AS&SH works very well with Lamentations so Hyperborea could potentially offer another land for exploit erm exploration for the powers of Europe. But the real equalizer here is the 'primitive' magicks of the prehistoric powers in such a campaign. They could potentially rampage across both the Wilderlands & Europe!

Stone Age Sorcery is also perfectly suited to use with AS&SH as an add on adventure encounter & add on book. Really glad to have stumbled upon this valuable OSR resource.
