The Dark Path Recollections Of The Stormbringer rpg, Karl Edward Wagner's Kane & Michael Moorcock's Hawkmoon

Wayback in the bowels of the Eighties when Conan was all of the rage and the Sword & Sorcery gerne was still fresh we played the Hell outta of  first edition Stormbringer. Now our group never ended up working for Elric, oh no we ended up working for another another anti hero. And this one was far worse in our estimation. Nope we're talking about Karl Edward Wagner's Kane in my uncle's Stormbringer first edition rpg campaign. We met Kane in the Young Kingdoms right after the events of Bloodstone. And Kane is and was an anti hero..  Kane is a sorcerer, a villain, a swordsman, a scholar, and a searcher for darker truths. His character and his stories in my humble opinion are far more interesting than many modern Sword & Sorcery tales. The death of Karl Edward Wagner was a blow to horror writing that the genre never quite recovered from.

Or association with Kane came through a third party minor noble who was a minor noble the shores of Oin and Yu at some little sea side tavern. Kane wanted us to save some artifact from the world of Hawkmoon.
And we'd heard rumors of double dealing with Kane. Bearing in mind that this was long before the era of Elric ascending to the Ruby Throne.
Kane had some Pan Tang sorcerer in thrall as a minion.  And to this day we don't have any idea what he had over the sorcerer but Kane lived up to the darkest aspects of the Eternal Champion.
We knew that this wasn't going to be easy at all. And the world of Hawkmoon isn't one that adventurers have had a good time.
We were paid half of our fee up front & promised the other half upon completion of the task.
Thrus Dooon the Pan Tangian sorcerer opened a door into the world of Hawkmoon.
And we pretty much entered the dark streets of Londra. Needless to say that we were in for a very rough time. We got captured about two hours later running afoul of the animal masked warriors of the city.

Of course this was all a part of our plan to get close to the artifact. What we didn't count on was falling into the hands of the praying mantis class of occult scientists of Londra. And getting ourselves into deep trouble. And this is where we met our enemy. An NPC member of the praying mantis scientist class who would dog our party for over two years. Two years cutting across the multiverse to avoid the destruction of the Young Kingdom and the machinations of our villain.
