Oliver Stone's Post Apocalypse Movie Script - Conan - A Quick Overview

Back About 10 years ago I was running a Gamma World campaign with a player who was a Gamma World completest. The kind of guy who could quote chapter & verse from rule books, editions, etc. He always seemed to beat me to the punch when it came to source material. The Post Apocalypse Forge site, Dragon's foot, Dragon Magazine Articles, etc. It was starting to drive me absolutely insane & I began to really dig deep creating stuff.
Like many of you I googled through Conan & was reading up on the Arnold movie. I started reading up on the history of the movie on Wiki - Ideas for a film about Conan were proposed as early as 1970. A concerted effort by Edward R. Pressman and Edward Summer to produce the film started in 1975. It took them two years to obtain the film rights, after which they recruited Schwarzenegger for the lead role and Oliver Stone to draft a script. Pressman lacked capital for the endeavor, and in 1979, after having his proposals for investments rejected by the major studios, he sold the project to Raffaella's father,Dino. Milius was appointed as director and he rewrote Stone's script.
Curiously I googled more about this script & read it. The thing is a post apocalypse fantasy nightmare! The script reads like something straight out of hell. Its that weird of a script.
Milius used some of it but man its a different read. However that being said. Its a flawed & glorious weird piece of history.
So why should you care? Well its a great overview of how to integrate into a campaign elements of  sword & sorcery with the post apocalypse genre. Most folks haven't even heard of it.
So as a dungeon master take what you want from it.
There is one of the best overviews of it from Here
I'd like to thank the folks over at the Conan Completist for doing such a great job with this.
