Gassing At The Jeffron Facility -GW1 Legion of Gold By Gary Gygax, Luke Gygax, & Paul Reiche III For Our Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Campaign Report

We pick right up from here on the blog from the last game & the players have decided to go down into the nest to clean out the  Zhuki (Buggems). The Zhuki (Buggems) decided to ambush the PC's and gassed them! The players were surprised as events turned on them at the Jeffron facility.

The players wanted to nuke the facility from orbit. They retreated from the alien bugs and laid down fire to cover thier tracks. And they managed to grab a few artifacts from the Pre Recession.
The player's PC's dropped several explosives and bombs into the facility to keep the zukhi from expanding into the rest of the countryside. Secret they already have. The PC's retreated back to the Genser Goose ranch. They already had taken the ranch at this point. And now the Zuhki wolves in the buggem stages are closing in the ranch now..

The Zuhki have cut off power, and communications to the ranch. But the players have used retrotechnology to establish communication with horn.  'The Hostile Technical Manual' has some great retro technology that we incorporated into Kosmos 68 Terra colony.

The Zhuki (Buggems) Attack -GW1 Legion of Gold By Gary Gygax, Luke Gygax, & Paul Reiche III For Our Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Campaign

Tonight's game session report is going to pick right up from last week's here.

The players have started to pick up on the fact that the Terra colony of Horn is in point of fact an old pre Recession  Sharashka – Special Research Facilities location. During tonight's GW1 Legion of Gold game the PC's came face to face with mutated Zuhki buggems at the Jeffton after meeting with the Commissioner of Horn & the mayor. The farm area does a brisk trade in produce & dairy which has been funneled back into the Soviet empire. Recent meteor showers have hidden several incursions of the Zuhki. The PC's met with local agents of the SSB through organized crime blinds who reported that several children had gone missing. The epicenter of this is the Genser Goose Ranch and there have been reports of "monsters" being seen around the area of the ranch. The mayor & his SSB 'advisors' had more intel and were forth coming.

The SSB agents suspected that it was actually a variation of the Zuhki wolves in the buggem stages. There was a reward of a pre Recession laser pistol. And the party was more then happy with this. The party came down to the citizen  Genser Goose ranch and walked right into an ambush. We lost two PC's during tonight's game to the gas attack made by the menaces. And the party retreated back to Horn after two more injured party members.
The party has a small tiger team containing the menace while they got thier PC's into surgery to attend the wounds. These were extensive and require hospitization & cybernetic implantation which is going to but these PC's out of commission for close to two months. This is even with psionic and cybernetic implatation but both operations were a success!

This hit into the heart of the party meant that Steve the player's leader decided to thaw out several new PC's from cold storage. These were generated using the normal Hostile rules & the players wanted to bombard the ranch from orbit. Steve however talked the players out of this option and then decided to pull back the Tigers who had been sent to secure the location.
The PC's were debriefed and took a shuttle from the Ben Franklin back into Horn's merger space port. And from there a cart was sent out to the farm. The party arrived just in time to see the farmer at the tree line taken by one of the Wolves. A strange mix of alien and insectoid.
The party decided to hold thier action until they could figure out a plan. And this is where we ended for the evening.

The Legion of Gold Shows Itelf -GW1 Legion of Gold By Gary Gygax, Luke Gygax, & Paul Reiche III For Our Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Campaign

So let's pick up where we last left off & the player's PC's have gotten done shopping in the second hands goods market. We're going to pick up using  Michael Brown's Afterday filling in for our failed colony that we'll be visting in the Hostile end of the campaign.

The players are aware that something is amiss but not what?!? The colony of Terra was established as a long shot colony during Hostile's first Great Recession brought on by the creation of the first drives; "After the creation of an interstellar drive, a scramble for the stars ensued as mining and oil drilling companies desperately sought out resources that they could supply to Earth – thereby skirting Reiner-Gama’s near monopoly within the Solar System. Within thirty years there were twenty fl ourishing colonies within 4 parsecs of Earth and dozens of small outposts and mining installations."
Afterday gives stats and new PC generation for the Cepheus Engine rpg and these are going to be our surviving colonists. And the reason for the colony's collapse is going to be the terraforming engines shutting down after the cut off from Earth. The Soviets came in and claimed Terra without a single drop of blood being shed. However with the Zhuki invasion events have dropped to the post apocalyptic levels again. And the machine intelligences on the planet are taking full advantage. The Soviet criminal cartels want to preserve the Terra colony at any cost. And hence why the Ben Franklin is in orbit & why the Tigers are getting ready to be sent in. But what the players haven't realized is the fact that the Ben Franklin is literally on it's own.
While I realize that most folks think of GW1 Legion of Gold as super gonzo and such. The adventure is quite dark and very much can be a serious affair. Those who have become victims of the A.I. are not going to be 'saved'. The best that the players can do is possibly take control of the legion if thier rolls are truly lucky & possibly use the legion on the Zhuki.
Allard Electronics has tasked the party for the recovery of any artifacts or technologies that are pre Recession.
That's right we're turning the Gamma World artifacts into pre Recession artifacts. What the players don't know is that the Terra colony is actually a Sharashka – Special Research Facilities location.

GW1 Legion of Gold By Gary Gygax, Luke Gygax, & Paul Reiche III For Our Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Campaign

"There is much to worry about in the mutated world of the future, but Baron Jemmas, Warder of Horn, has more on his mind that most. In recent weeks several of the outlying towns of his Barony have been wiped out by a band of mysterious golden marauders."

"These creatures struck from nowhere and vanished without a trace when their deeds were done. The Warder has decided that they must be stopped before the entire Barony of Horn falls beneath their onslaught, and so he is offering a great reward to anyone who can defeat the Legion of Gold."

One my Twitter followers came up with a rather brilliant idea when I mentiond Gamma World second edition rpg. According to
JT the GM
, " Lots of Gamma World adventures were awesome for putting into planet side Traveller situations. The reach has a ton of blasted planets that you can us. Let's me use the material from Gamma World I never had the chance to play. There are some great scenarios." And this got me thinking about our Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Campaign. And that got me thinking about
GW1 Legion of Gold By Gary Gygax, Luke Gygax, & Paul Reiche III. What if the cybernetic menaces & failed colonies are actually the Terra of GW1?! With a quick backhanded sly flourish of Cepheus Atom & Afterday it's easily doable in spades. The failed colony is run by the Commissioner of Horn & his people are disappearing with the both the Legion of Gold & the Zhuki menace.

Suddenly that trip to the second hand black market on Bavda IV makes a whole lot more sense. The party is going to be seeing a lot more mutant comrades in the next couple of sessions. As we set up events for the sandbox that is GW1 !
These events also give some excellent reasons for the incredible levels of technology in our campaign.

The Commissioner of Horn has used his connections with the Green/Red bratva to make connections with Allard Electronics. And then bring in the Tiger mercenaries to run down what's been happening both to his colonists & the rest of the world.
Meanwhile the A.I. responisble for churning out the Legion has been running since the second Recesssion.
The rest of Terra crashed & burnt without the resources of the mega corporations. And then the atomics or other energy weaponry flew.
Entrophic weaponry was employed after finding stockpiles of the Ancients weapons. Destruction & mutation went rampant. With Ensteinian physics involved the damage was highly extensive.
So we use the sandbox approach to show the damage done to the former Terra colony.

And this could lead right into GW2 Famine in Far Go easily with a Soviet style twist up. Yeah, we're so going to do this!

Hidden Agenda - Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Session Report The Journey Interrupted Session Report II

This session report today picks up with the player's PC's awakening within Soviet space from last session here.  Two years had passed as the USS Ben Franklin made it's in system debut.
The players PC's awoken with a start confronting a bunch of the Soviet officials after the intial full blown panic on the players part we got down to it. The USS Ben Franklin ended up on the edge of colonial Soviet space. The PC's were shocked that the local authorities are not only aware of the PC's but welcomed them.

These Soviet officials were a part of secret project Z6IQ-PHANTOM & they were a part of the Sharashka (Secret Projects) world that had been abandoned over twenty years ago. Allard Electronics are interested in Z5IQ the predacessor project which used psionics and drives to ;"Explore the idea of performing the same feat as the Stoyanov (jump) drive using psychic power. After many deaths and no progress, the effort was abandoned. Now considered to be an absurd proposition, it still has some proponents in fringe journals" The world & it's project were abandoned within the grinding USSP bureaucracy
Macy the group's Jacker dug out films, journals, etc. of the psions opening hyperspacial gateways & dimensional anolomies. And then going completely insane exposed to the realms of hyperspacial madness.
The crew took on seven cyrostasis chambers containing psions in trade for 400 pulse rifles & ammo. There were questions at the time of the exchange but the trade was made. Then the Ben Franklin left the system in a hurry after two days. The players are suspiscious to say the least. 'Sonny'  Soveli head of operations for Green/Red bratva & his psion asistant  Harri were all smiles & sunshine.
And the players really started to panic when the USS Ben Franklin  ended up even deeper into the Soviet sector!
'We had one job Sonny what gives?! ' A simple side step operation for the second drop off were the assurances on the Green/Red bratva official's part. The part found themselves being given Soviet clothing & equipment by thier Allard Electronics liason.  The player's PC's found themselves in orbit around a second hand goods planet market run by the Green/Red bratva. The PC's were delivering much needed supplies & food stuffs to the second planet within the USSP former system.
Certain food production, medicial services, etc. were taken over by the Green/Red Bratva after the USSP abandoned the project.
The party decided to do a bit of shopping while they were there. This was a step up from the usual mining, & combat. The locals were friendly, very accomidating, and quick with intersystem gossip.
The party was really interested in the local ruins of the Ancients that were on Bavda IV. There's a theme that runs through our games as the party has dealt with the Tanhauser Gate sessions. We ended here.

A Balance of History- - Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Commentary

Today we're going to pick right up from this play session report here.  When we're talking about using Cepheus Engine & 2d6 resources. Paul Elliot's Outworld isn't often mentioned at all. And that's a big mistake because Outworld contains about everything that a DM needs to use Hostile within an established 2d6 campaign. And it also gives the DM the maxium coverage for the worlds of Kosmos'68 woodpress.com campain setting. A world that Paul Elliot created with his intial Kosmos 68 campaign. And according to the tag line 'A Soviet Future that will never be'. Or is it?!

If we start looking at Hostile's setting book we've got a solid overview of coming history or at least the coming history of all kinds of upheaveal that make what we're going through in 2023 look like a cake walk. According to Zozer Games Website on Outworld; "OUTWORLD is a short and simple setting, inspired by the movies Alien, Aliens, Outland and Silent Running (amongst others) and it uses only the tools and rules of Traveller Books 1, 2 and 3 to help build a rough facsimile of those movies. The setting is entirely original, and not  connected to the settings of Ridley Scott’s Alien or Blade Runner movies, but it is inspired by his films, by the others in my list above and by later movies (the Alien sequels for a start).   It is not connected to my game HOSTILE, either."
And this was my mistake reading this blurb. Not connecting Outworld into the universe of Hostile. If it's plugged back into the universe of Hostile and Kosmos '68 then events between the East & West begin to make a whole lot of sense. And this provides a backdrop for the events of Orbital 2100 which are a hundred & twenty five years prior to the events of Outworld & Hostile.

And this could be the universe of Kosmos 68 as well & right in the introduction it says it all;"Mankind’s vices, arrogance, folly and greed followed him into space. Today, in 2168, the USSP is an impersonal bureaucracy, composed of interlocking layers of redundant commissariats, councils, worker’s soviets, constituent assemblies and executive committees. This Byzantine bureaucracy is essentially governed by the elite of the Global Progress Party, all members of the Politburo, the highest policy-making authority within the USSP. The Party apparatus creates a ladder of loyalty and power for those who wish to climb it – but the party machine itself is oiled with bribes, extortions, kick-backs and threats. The frontier colonies have quotas to fulfil in order to keep the richer worlds (home to many of the Party hierarchy) supplied with food stuffs and raw materials."

And here's where the rest of Cepheus Engine comes into focus because lurking on the edges of the universe may be other powers. The Zuhki are utterly alien & without a human touch stone. And recently I've used Cepheus Journal issue #8 to introduce two human factions, the space force & the space patrol into our games.  These were a part of the Earth sector & Clement sector respectively. These two factions could easily be ported over into the Kosmos 68 setting as a part of the Soviet side.

This is the same game that we introduced the Martians & sent the players scrambling for an escape craft. And there's a reason why the Martains were there besides they were in  Cepheus Journal issue #8. This all comes back to our mini campaign that centered around journeying through the Tanhauser gate anomaly. More to come.

A Plea For Help - Kosmo 68 & Hostile Rpg Crossover Game Session Report The Journey Begins

The players were in for something a bit special as they slept two years until they got to "The Autonomous Region" & then were taken aboard the Porter Space Station. The player's PC's were confronted by Allard Electronics 7 tigers mercenary internal security agents. And the players were also met 'Sonny'  Soveli head of operations for Green/Red bratva & his psion asistant  Harri. 'Sonny' Soveli begged the PC's to transport weapons, ammo, & provisions to the local UGS near the system's front lines.

The PC's are going to have the Tigers along for security. The job pays very well however  & the Allard Electronics has been briefed on the Zukhi. The PC's have some idea of the threat that these aliens represent. The PC's were briefed on the alien threat. The USSP is aware of the smugglers & because of certain 'payments' were made is allowing the cargo to go through. The risk here is that the player's PC's could end up in 'Re - Education resort'

What the players are not aware is the fact that they'll be picking up a psion for passage back into  "The Autonomous Region"  The Soviets are the only human faction that has psions within our Hostile rpg campaign.Contracts & Waivers were signed by the PC's. And 'Sonny' Soveli assured the PC's that there are significant opportunities for work & money making opportunities.

The PC's went into hypersleep after the cargoes were loaded, inspected, and double inspected. The PC's hacker who had recently recovered from a series of cybernetic implantations. This came as a result of a shot gun blast to mid section. She was extremely skeptical of these cargos. And had her own eyes on all of them. There was also the fact that she was creepied out by Harri. The very idea of psionics was both foreign and yet familar to her. Psionic bio drugs & implants  are beyond cutting edge for her employers. While internal documents speculate they are not beyond the theory stage.
The game ended with the USS Ben Franklin setting off on her journey!

The Veteres Guardians For The Hostile Rpg & Other Old School 2d6 Based Old School Science Fiction Games

Since the earliest days of the Veteres empire this Ancient race has used biomorphic guardians for their installations & bases. Bred as much as assembled these guardians operate on a wide variety of worlds where Veteres have colonies & bases. The Veteres guardians design is based on the Reticulan dragons genotype & has been used on a myriad of planets to cleanse areas of the 'ultimate bio weapons'. The Veteres guardians use a wide variety of bio engineered life simulating systems to maintain themselves indefinitely. These bio cybernetic lifeforms are as much bio morph as they are living flesh. The Veteres guardians were used in the Veteres Gray Wars over 3 million years ago & the Greys have a hereditary fear of these horrors.

Rubble & Roll on Cyclops - A Hostile rpg Mini Game - Session Report Two

So I skipped the blog entry last night after a whole cloth day of driving a hundred miles, coming home to a clogged toilet, and more paniced players. So after peeling players off the ceiling & dealing with the tiolet. We began thrashing out what's going on Cyclops from last session here.  So we were saved by miners who were members of the church of  the Heavenly Stigmata.

So we  were saved from certain death by miners riding the alien dinosaurs that are native to Cyclops. The miners are cultists of chrch of   the Heavenly Stigmata. We were given Krias & told in no uncertain terms to leave planet. Fortunately we were able to recharge our tanks & atmosphere before
being booted out the High Town that we were at.
But are we really?!  We began looking at  the facts. And we think this might be rival ranchers to our small time patron. We've decided that the Blackguard aren't going anyplace for the moment. Our party high tailed it too the space port.

And we had our jacker & scout do a bit of recon within the space port. We faked a bill of passage. And stayed behind on Cyclops. Next making contact with blackmarket papers forger working planetside & assumed new identities. Then contacted our patron on Cyclops and rode out of the space port. We noted who & what was observing us as we rode into the Hitherlands again. Cyclops is available right here.

Strung out & Left Out On Cyclops - A Hostile rpg Mini Game - Session Report One\

This session report is going to pick right up from yesterday's review of Cyclops. Just tonight we arrived on Cyclops & were thawed out inside the crater.Cyclops is an up & coming world in Hostile but it's a world of conflict. We could feel the whole crater & it's easy going towns as nothing more then powder kegs waiting to happen. Our Blackguard detachment were posing as drovers & ranch hands. So we blended in with the latest batch of workers to the Cyclops colony.

We were a bit outgunned as we had to make due with side arms & none of our usual kit. This meant buying weapons on Cyclops & we were at a disavantage as well. We had a meeting with our employer a rival rancher who wanted answers as too why the miners were being stirred up. We were there for a series of bounties on terrorists who were using the mining operations as cover.
We spent this game circulating among the local population & making contact with our local inside men. Arrangements, food, and safehouses were done among the colonists & drovers of Cyclops. Something wasn't right off the bat. We had a sniper inciden in town tonight & this isn't a common occurance. This was followed a day later by a bomb threat & it almost took out one of our party. We wanted & needed answers. What we got!? We got drugged & kidnapped then left out in the Hitherlands! This is where tonight's game ended.

Adapting Joseph Mohr's 'The Thing In The Ice' To Zozer Game's Hostile Rpg

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a huge John Carpenter's The Thing fan going back to when I saw the film really young back when HBO used to show movies on late nights. So when DM Steve wanted me to run Joseph Mohr's 'The Thing in The Ice', we all jumped at the chance!

But in doing so we all opted to use Zozer Games Hostile rpg rules for running these sesssions. And yes there is a John Carpenter 'thing encounter' written into the Hostile setting rules. But we're going to use that as a follow up to 'The Thing in The Ice'. But there are other adventure considerations.
'The Thing in Ice' is going to be moved back to the really far outer edges of the Sol solar system near Pluto. The following is going to be changed up a bit; "It is well known across the Sonora sector that the planet Saresere is a frozen planet with no atmosphere. Despite these harsh conditions the Kon Lo Corporation has a small station on the world mining precious minerals. Of course....this is the story planted by the corporation to keep preying eyes from taking too close a look. Instead of miners there are scientists on this world excavating for alien artifacts and relics. They maintain a small complex of buildings on the surface of the planet. Recently all contact with these scientists has been lost. While in Star Port the travelers are approached by Corporate Executive Isidora Sato from the Kon Lo Corporation with an offer of employment. He offers CR 100,000 for the travelers to visit Saresere and find out what is going on there. He instructs the travelers that they will need to sign a non-disclosure agreement before accepting the money."

The mystery element is changed to Helium 3 & the planet is an outer undiscovered ( at the moment) moon of Pluto. The miners have uncovered something very nasty in the ice & man still is the warmest place to hide. The creature encountered is truly alien and its not one of the usual species of Cepheus Engine aliens or  creatures. This isn't the usual 'thing' but we're going to replace that with the usual thing from Hostile. The space explorer has been coOped by the 'thing' but there are three secondary targets here:
  1. The FTL drive systems on board the alien craft..
  2. The starcharts on board the star ship
  3. Any technological artifacts that can be recovered

Now we could run Joseph Mohr's 'The Thing in The Ice' straight 'out of the box' but the problem is that one of the players has read the adventure. So rather then doing a complete revamp to make it a bit more down  & dirty. But about 90% of the adventure is going to be in tact.

There's going to be a mix here of roughnecks & explorers who have blazed a trail out to this icy rock. And its the perfect excuse to use Zozer Games Explorers for a secondary camp for this party on another nearby rock within the system.

Review & Commentary On Justice Denied by Joseph Mohr From Old School Role Playing For The Cepheus Engine rpg & Old School 2d6 Science Fiction rpg's

"Logan Murphy was a ruthless dictator on the world of Casudxe for nearly a decade before abdicating power. Now the Prime Minister of that world wants him brought to justice. He was recently sighted on a water world in the Sonora sector. Capturing him there should be a piece of cake"

Justice Denied by Joseph Mohr From Old School Role Playing is the latest offering from the pen of Joseph Mohr. And its a solid premise that sounds like it comes straight out of a space western; "Logan Murphy is a much hated name in the Sonara sector. He was a ruthless and despicable dictator that ruled Casudxe for nearly a decade before the planet rebelled. After he abdicated and fled the world the planet formed the Rihesian Union of Planets. The union is made up of planets that only desire free trade and democratic leadership according to their propaganda. His time in power is full of stories of mass executions, secret police crackdowns, purges and gulags on remote islands on that world. Few people still live who can actually identify him by sight. Recently, however, one of those few witnesses saw a man who he believes to be Logan Murphy on the water world of Palob. This world is nearly completely covered in water but has a few populated islands. The main island there is highly populated and the world is the sub-sector capital but the other islands are nearly totally uninhabited. It is believed by the patron that Logan has taken refuge at a secret base on one of these lesser inhabited islands." The PC's are hired to raid Logans base. But events could go from bad to worse in  Justice Denied.
Things are not quite as cut & dry as they seem because let's face facts that in a space adventure such as this. Justice Denied clocks in at twenty pages but Mohr uses those twenty pages to lay down complications, an adventure twist around & more. Palob is a remote water world with a few scattered islands & the PC's are hired to bring Logan Murphy to justice.
Murphy owns an island locally and has quite the reputation within the instellar world where his crimes have been compared to Stalin, Ivan The Terrible, and Hitler. But there are several twists & turns within  Justice Denied to keep things interesting.  Justice Denied has plenty of room for combat, and ultra violence.  Justice Denied is an adventure that works very well as a spy mission & raid. PC's are going to have to be careful becaus there's plenty of room for PC death in this one.

Justice Denied is a solid possibly three or four session of play for the Cepheus  Engine and its very well exacuted. The NPC's are fun, the ideas while not original are solidly done & the cartography is fun. There will be advenure complications for the PC's & the enemies are going to possibly going to get the upper hand at a few points. Because  Justice Denied is twenty pages the PC's are going to have to move fast, make decisions quickly and get answers where & when they can.

You can get Justice Denied Here as a 'Pay What You Want' title here

Review & Commentary On 21 Villains From Indendence Games For The Clement Sector Rpg, Cepheus Engine Rpg, & 2d6 Old School Science Fiction Rpg Campaigns

"Where would the good guys be without the villains?

21 Villains provides 21 assorted antagonists to use against your characters.  From street thugs to dictators, this volume has them all!  Each villain comes complete with illustrations by expert artist Bradley Warnes and background history, stats and goals with which to challenge your characters. "

A Space Western campaign  especially the Clement Sector needs good villains! There happens to be a great little book called 21 Villains from Independence Games.21 Villains has NPC villains for every type of Space Western campaign.

21 Villains has all of the NPC's that your party of adventurers can handle. John Watts, Bradley Warnes, Michael Johnson, Alan Mullican, "Big" Dan Callahan, Paul Santiago, &  Vaughn Wright weave their NPC's to cause your player's PC's all kinds of hassle. These NPC's are prime fodder for a group of bounty hunters, law dogs, and law enforcement characters. There are all kinds of NPC's that go from low level grifters to straight assassin. This is a massive collection of solidly done criminals, low lifes, & murderers. For the Old West feel of the Clement Sector. This smaller 46 page book has some excellent potential for a Clement Sector game.

21 Villains has an interesting array of NPC's that will cause many unlawful issues for PC's. Many of these NPC's have no quams about straight up murdering PC's at all. Others are minor villians who can cause issues with a party some of which could be major such as a critical juncture during a campaign.  There's also the fact that the NPC's within  21 Villains are going to be active attending their own agenda's. These NPC's are highly active within the Clement Sector & they will cross paths with the PC's.
For a space western campaign setting
21 Villains offers the NPC's to bring a Clement Sector campaign setting to life.  21 Villains is a solidly done book, not essential for the Clement Sector but for a one on one book this is a good one to have for constructing a campaign.
