OSR Reviews & Commentary "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room For The Wretchploitation Rpg

"Wretchploitation supplement for maverick cops, low-down punks, and the blurred lines of good and evil. The city is going to shit. It's like a pressure cooker. You have seen it turning bad to worse. Shootings, muggings, burglary, trafficking, sadism, night and day. Yes, this city is hotter than hell, and you're inches away from the flames. They're spreading like cancer, you're in the thick of it, so deep undercover that it's impossible to come up for air when reality bites. As your personal life crumbles, your are shot from all sides. You got the ex-wife holing at you for alimony, for kids you only see once in a blue moon. One of those children doesn't even look like you, it's like they're a stranger. Yet you are drawn to this strange oddity as it's almost too perfect. Perhaps you are the one trying to make your way in a world of organised crime, whether a two-bit hood or inches away from being "made". You are sailing close to the edge no matter what side of the tracks you're on."

"Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blue Released (DrivethruRPG and Big Geek Emporium; later, there will be a POD version)

A sourcebook for Wretchploitation (or other modern-day old-school games) by Joe Coombs, inspired by 1970s and 1980s cop shows like Miami Vice, Mission Impossible, Hill Street Blues, The Avengers,Cagney and Lacey and Magnum PI. "

"Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro is definitely an adult Miami Vice style OSR Wretchploitation rpg adventure that's actually a mini campaign unto itself. "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" gives all of the major players in the Sandcove area but notches it up by eleven into the neon Eighties. And it's very well done in it's forty three pages for Wretchploitation rpg.

"Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" is filled with Eighties bastards, corrupt cops, kick ass adventuresses, drug smugglers, murderers, thieves, and much more. "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" also has new factions, new enemies, and everything to get the players in over their collective heads right in the deep end of the Neon Eighties crime scene in Sandcove.
But is "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" worth the download?! Oh Hell yes! "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" pushes the Wretchploitation game system in yet another well defined genre direction. This is again an adult themed offering from the Red Room crew. And yes Sandcove is a place that I'd want to take my players too! There's plenty of opportunity for a party of adventurers to take over Sandcove if you don't mind a modern Noir body count.
The material here in "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" is well done, heady, and full of campaign potential! Grab this one! Get your Raybands, your power tie, cocaine, Members only Jacket, and a copy of both Wretchploitation as well as "Vice: Sandcove Gets the Blues" for a bloody Eighties adventure night!

Review & Commentary of "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel" By Miguel Ribeiro, & Joe Coombs For The Wretchploitation Rpg

" Knuckles of Steel is a blaxploitation scenario for Wretchploitation (or other contemporary OSR games) and the second in a series of modules taking place in Crime City, the fictional metropolis introduced in Sexual Holocaust."

" The adventure is pretty straightforward: A triad crime boss kidnapped his former girlfriend's sister and uses the hostage to persuade Lois, model and aspiring actress, to marry him against her will. However, Lois still has a card up her sleeve: A group of brave, determined and wretched friends willing to help her no matter the odds. A situation like this could be solved in a one-shot, but Knuckles of Steel provides plenty of plot hooks and non-player characters and places in Hammettville."

"Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel"  By Miguel Ribeiro, & Joe Coombs isn't my usual fare for the  Wretchploitation rpg. Up to this point our players has been on a horror/Science Fantasy kick with the Wretched rpg systems. "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel"  By Miguel Ribeiro, & Joe Coombs plugs deeply into the Blackspoitation & Kung Fu film genres of the early Grind House Seventies cinema. Far more into the Blacksploitation films of the Seventies & there's a clearly researched list within "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel" . However,"Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel"  is it's own original adventure unto itself.
And it's a pretty solid entry into the Wretchploitation rpg line of adventures.
"Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel" is going to take the PC's down through the  twisted streets & alleys of Crime City. The PC's are ensnared within the web of triad crime boss whose  kidnapped his former girlfriend's sister. Seems straight foreward right?! It's not as the PC's come into events on several levels when the Triad uses the hostage to persuade Lois, model and aspiring actress, to marry him against her will. There's more gravitus here then meets the eye. There's murder, exploitation, greed, and much more where the PC's could grab power for themselves at several points!

Let's face facts this is a Wretchploitation adventure & within this rpg it's all about the seven deadly sins. And so it's gonna be a power grab within the back alleys of Crime City. And there's lots of opportunity while sticking it to the Triads or anyone rthat get's in the player's PC's way. There's also lots of opportunity to make a buck or die trying. The encounters within "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel" can be quite deadly.
Right now I'm prepping to DM "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel"  By Miguel Ribeiro, & Joe Coombs coming up. And this doesn't mean a whole lot of writing and whatnot. Instead it means that we're rolling up new PC's with a whole lotta of attitude, 70's gravitas, and getting into the spirit of "Crime City Blues Part II Knuckles of Steel"  By Miguel Ribeiro, & Joe Coombs.

Review & Commentary On "In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro For The Wretchploitation Rpg & Other OSR Horror Rpg's

"Inspired heavily by the movie The Dead House, in this Wretchploitation scenario the players may take the role of a gang of psychotic house invaders, the family inhabiting the house or even the authorities investigating the case. Besides the conflict between the gang and the family members there will be many other events, mundane and supernatural. So, whether you're looking for a fun one shot night of horror, or something that could be much more expansive, then (hopefully) this will be an explosive fuel for your inspiration."

"In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro is a very different style of Wretchploitation adventure title. This is a sorta of home invasion where you can play the invaders, the invadee family , or your own party. "In Wretched Depravity" clocks in at thirty eight pages of intensive & weird horror  adventure. This adventure takes full advantage of the Wretchploitation rpg engine. And it does it by pulling the players into the action right off the bat.

"In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro takes the PC's into it's adventure plot reminding this DM of those late 90's horror films of yesteryear or even 80's supernatural films.
The layout in
"In Wretched Depravity" is solidly done. The artwork is A.I. driven but done in a way that suits the horrid nature of this adventure.
This adventure sucks deeply from the 'grind house film' aspect of the Wretchploitation rpg. There's a lot happening within "In Wretched Depravity" & it uses it's adventure location for the maximum amount of carnage, blood, & PC death. This is an adult title that lives up to it's label very well. And it does this by giving us NPC's with lots of OSR horror teeth & nastiness. Done correctly "In Wretched Depravity" could be a real hallow Halloween adventure with an OSR twist or two.
Look let's be honest there's going to a lot of PC death with "In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro. My advice here is to bring extra PC sheets filled in & rolled up. What "In Wretched Depravity" does is show off how well the Wretchploitation rpg handles modern OSR & horror adventures. It does this by actually putting the PC's in harm's way.
Could "In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro be used with say with The  Wretched New Flesh rpg?! Quite easily folks especially if the PC's are playing a wealthy family party of adventurers. A planar weapon opens up a horror adventure hook that leads to events in "In Wretched Depravity".

"In Wretched Depravity" By Joe Coombs, & Miguel Ribeiro has all of the hallmarks of a Giallo horror adventure. Pulp horror elements check, PC's in constant danger check, a well written adventure with a cast of NPC's with weirdness happening?! Check & check. For two dollars this is an excellent rpg adventure to add to the Wretchedverse.

Using The Night Shift Veterans of the Supernatural Rpg With The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs For The Wretchexploitation & The Wretched Époque rpg

So three weeks ago I dusted off Veterans of the Supernatural Wars rpg after thumbing through the Red Room's Resort of the Dead after running this adventure with Bloat Games system. Why?! Bloat Games systems should be good enough and it is. But we've had a Veteran's chronicle running in the background for months with the 'Lost In The Eighties! LoFP Carcosa & OSR Actual Play Session - Extension'. Now DM Steve has been rattling his dice about going back to 'the Lost in The Eighties' chronicle because of our game of   The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs today.

The key part of  running The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs is going to be three fold. One is the fact that 'The Sisters of the Seven Sins 'the Wretched version' is going be jumped up into the early Eighties. And next is to use the Night Companion: a Sourcebook for Night Shift: Veterans of the Supernatural Wars which has stats for the The N'gathau or the Displines of Pain in the Wretchploitation rpg. These demonic creatures have many names in their cold Hells. The Sisters of the Seven Sins is perfectly suited for running an extended demonic  chronicle in Portugal right at the tail end of 1979 and into the early 80's. And even with PC's with supernatural powers are not going to mean a whole lot against  the Displines of Pain. Even the PC levels are not that far off of a Veteran's game. The Sisters of Seven Sin is a Giallo game adventure & there will be blood, adult themes, and lots more. Does Wretchploitation have anything to offer to the Veterans DM?!

And in answer to this question?! Yes absolutely it does and this because both Wrechploitation & Veterans OSR rpg systems  are modular in nature. And this allows the DM to use some of the 13 deadly sins PC generation can to be back fitted into the Veterans of the Supernatural rpg PC generation. This  allows  the PC's to be a bit more well round and frankly evil. How is this all going to play out?! I'm not sure as our supernatural PC's are going to have their hands full of the Sisters and their horrors.

Now I'm no stranger to running controversial rpg campaigns and this one could end in disaster or be a very long running one. The The Sisters of the Seven Sins (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs has the potential to last years. And this is only the latest savlo in a campaign that could last years.

Review & OSR Commentary On Resort of the Dead By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs For The Wretchploitation Rpg

"All around, there are pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, lovely cafes and restaurants, drunken Brits, sunburnt,(nearly overcooked, Germans, and obnoxious American tourists complaining, in broken Spanish, to the lazy-ass Portuguese manager about some minor issue, such as the room's TV set not working properly during the Armageddon. We do understand Spanish, by the way, but it's not our native language. Just to make that clear!"

The free Torralba Resort Brochure (Resort of the Dead handout)
came in very handy in tonight's game.

"Anyway, we are here to provide you with the perfect spot to be killed by zombies. Well, not that perfect; the Torralba resort has seen much better days. But at least it's cheap. However, we'll screw you over the restaurant bill, and watch out for those cab drivers, too; they'll rip you off. Welcome to sunny Portugal, have fun being devoured by the undead hordes.
You'll have the time of your (u)nlife!"

Resort of the Dead By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs  is a zombie apocalypse waiting to happen or to be sprung on your OSR campaigns as needed. Resort of the Dead is actually laid out for The Wretchploitation Rpg. but it works very hard as a decent OSR zombie adventure. And its vicious little OSR horror romp. And dropping the PC's into the horror mix waiting to happen  was interesting from a DM perspective. As the play was interesting as the player's PC's were figuring out the rumors about the cocaine, & the gold within the hotel's vaults ( this is my invention but it moved things along quick).

Resort of the Dead takes the zombie end of the world adventure into a beach front adventure with lots of other undead besides the hordes of the undead. Mutated hell spawn can be randomly encountered by the PC's in this fifty three page adventure. Resort of the Dead is a mid level adventure because of three factors:1. The amount of NPC's that the players can interact with or who will fall victim to the zombification later on,2. The expansive mini campaign setting that is Resort of the Dead, & 3. the amount & variety of undead that the PC's will be facing.
Resort of the Dead has a high recycle factor for OSR adventuring & this is born out by the fact that this adventure could also be used to introduce new NPC's from
The Wretchploitation Rpg into other OSR games. A fact that was sprung on me in  the middle of Resort of the Dead when a replacement PC was simply inserted as another guest quite easily.  Something else that occurred to me tonight running Resort of the Dead tonight is the fact it would be quite easy to use the module in other OSR setting such as Goblinoid Games Mutant Future rpg. Why?! Because right after the zombie apocalpyse starts mutations could easily start happening by whatever triggered the undead state of the world. Even if the campaign setting  in Resort of the Dead happened to the world and we move ten years down the road. The set up could work with zombies & mutants on the same world. Personally after running Resort of the Dead I think it's well worth the four dollar download.
