Review & Commentary On Wretched Darkness Rpg By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, Joe Coombs, Chris Cotgrove From The Red Room

" Welcome to the nightmarish realms of the Wretchedverse, where horrors lurk around every corner, and the darkness hides untold terrors. Wretched Darkness is a mature horror role-playing game where players take on the roles of anti-hero characters who must face the unknown and confront the supernatural and the paranormal head-on. Wretched Darkness may be played as a dark fantasy game, or you can make it into an actual horror experience. Players can choose from several factions for their characters, some already featured in previous Wretched games, such as the Knights of Cydonnia, BurroughsTech, the Araknyd Brotherhood and the Daughters of Ksenia, and a few new ones, like the Warden Foundation and the Children of the Night."

"By default, the game is set in modern times, in urban environments, where danger lurks at every turn and death is never far away. However, you can use it to play horror games in different timelines. Combine it with Wretched Époque or Wretched Country for a 19th-century terrifying experience, pair it up with Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad for a near-future surrealistic horror campaign, jump into the far future by using Wretched Space, or set it in any other age. This book presents you with a sandbox-style setting inspired by the works of masters of horror, such as Clive Barker, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, John Carpenter, George Romero, Wes Craven, Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper, Lucio Fulci and Mario Bava, but expect sources of inspiration as varied as William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, William Gibson, Paul Auster, exploitation movies and Leonard Cohen’s poetry."
"As a Game Master, you will find here tools and game mastering hints for running any style of horror game, such as Giallo, gore, supernatural, psychological, apocalyptic, surreal, sci-fi horror and more. Wretched Darkness uses a revised version of the Wretched mechanics, an old-school set of rules designed for playing characters that are not necessarily good or virtuous. The revised rules are still entirely compatible with previous versions. Still, they include new mechanics for sanity and the use of magic, as well as several new classes and playable races, such as Incubus/ Succubus, Loup-Garou, and the Wampyr. Player characters are also more vulnerable than they were in previous Wretched games: The Hit Point increase was downgraded (now, by default, you don’t roll for Hit Points when you level up, you only get 1 additional point per level), and the level cap is set at 10."

Miguel Ribeiro of the authors of The  Wretched Darkness rpg

Wretched Darkness is a four hundred & seventy six page OSR horror rpg game that has quite a few difference from other Wretchedverse games. And that difference is the amount of care, work, planning, & thought that went into Wretched Darkness. Wretched Darkness is an OSR horror rpg game but it's one that can handle anytime frame from modern to hardcore ancient Lovecraftian themes or adventures.
Wretched Darkness falls hard on the adult side with lots of horror tropes & adventure cavets that one comes to expect in the horror gerne. The usuaul suspect PC classes are here from the chaos magicians all the way to the murdering psychopathic killer. What set's Wretched Darkness apart is the how & why of it's OSR systems. the Wretched Darkness rpg has the vibes of a Kult style OSR game.  The Wretched Darkness rpg has the potential to really take in the 90's style Golden Age horror movie like campaign in spades. Wretched Darkness lives up to it's OSR roots but incorporates a whole host of new systems that really bring home the horror as both personal adventure or full on campaign. Then there's several optional tarot card systems that can be used as 'horror adventure tool kit' in it's appendixs. And this is only one small part of Wretched Darkness.

Wretched Darkness takes the horror adventure center stage as a solid OSR horror game that really ups the themes & ideas of the other Wretchedverse rpg games. Then it breaks off the knob of the volume & it does this by being a game that incorporates tons of factions, bits of magick, reams of supernatural lore, and more. But these are optional allowing the DM or players to bring the customization factor into the Wretched Darkness game itself. The pdf for Wretched Darkness is massive & yet I really want a printing of the game to truly cement it as a cornerstone of the Red Room's rpg systems.

And it's this cornerstone approach that makes Wretched Darkness rpg that will work well with Wretched Époque or Wretched Country for a 19th-century horror campaign or it can be used with  Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad for a Science Fantasy horror campaign,or as a jump off point into an OSR horror game fueled by  Wretched Space especially combined with Venger Satanis's Cha'alt. And this is one of the strength's of Wretched Darkness it's ability to be adapted again & again to various niches of horror from it's own corner of OSR gaming. For me as a reviewer Wretched Darkness is a five outta of five.

First Impressions Of Wretched Darkness Rpg By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs From The Red Room For The Wretchedverse

“You were not there for the beginning. You will not be there for the end. Your knowledge of what is going on can only be superficial and relative”
― William S. Burroughs, Naked Lunch

Wretched Darknesss is a horror rpg & specifically an OSR horror game by the folks of the Red Room. And you play a former victim, a monster, or something far worse who has knowledge of what might be coming at 'The End'. Hence why we have the William S. Burroughs qoute.

The Red Room has been producing & creating incredible games for the last three years now. And now Wretched Darkness rpg has hit under the tree. This is brand new OSR horror game that hits the high notes & clocks in at two hundred & seventy two pages.

Wretched darkness hits several different notes then other OSR horror titles;

"Welcome to the nightmarish realms of the Wretchedverse, where horrors lurk around every corner, and the darkness hides untold terrors. Wretched Darkness is a mature horror role-playing game where you take on the role of an anti-hero character who must face the unknown and confront the supernatural head-on. This game can be played as dark fantasy or make it an actual horror experience. Players can choose from several factions for their characters, some already featured in previous Wretched games, such as The Knights of Cydonnia, BurroughsTech, the Araknyd Brotherhood and the Daughters of Ksenia and some new ones, like the Warden Foundation and the Children of the Night."

"By default, the game is set in modern times, in urban environments, where danger lurks at every turn and death is never far away. However, you can use it to play horror games at any other time. Combine it with Wretched Époque or Wretched Country for the 19th-century terrifying experience, pair it up with Wretched New Flesh for a near-future surrealistic horror campaign, jump into the far future by using Wretched Space, or set it in any other timeline."

Hoping that everyone is havig a fantastic holiday & Wretched Darkness rpg has the potential to be both rpg & Wretchverse setting book as well. If Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars has the potential to be an OSR World of Darkness style rpg campaign then the Wretched Darkness rpg has the vibes of a Kult style OSR game.  The Wretched Darkness rpg has the potential to really take in the 90's style Golden Age horror movie like campaign in spades. The Wretched Darkness rpg has a real dependance on it's factions, NPC's, monsters  & has a more personal style of horror then most other Wretched Rpg's. And even Joe Combs has spoken about this on Facebook; "'The Wretched Darkness  got alot of options to it.Takes the idea of magic being a living breathing force to be reckoned as opposed to it being in the hands of a select few casters.
'"Though those who are willing to put the time and effort into
How magic works may well find themselves doing some pretty incredible things.
Especially if they are working together, to make magic work.
This makes cults much more of a force to be reckoned with."
I suppose could be a Wretched Sorcerers Handbook.
Already had plot hooks forming for it. "

And the idea of magick being a living thing & a force to be reckoned plugs into the Wretched 'Epoque rpg background & systems. Wretched 'Epoque rpg contains a lot of background on the Red Room's take on the Beyond. The Beyond is the horror dimension that worms it's way through many of the Wretchedverse titles. And it impacts many of the Red Room's titles & it's minions can easily affect a campaign.

The Wretched 'Epoque rpg is perfect to couple with Wretched Darkness for making a complete turn of the century horror rpg. The 'Wretched Darkness rpg has the feel of a far more complete rpg system in my humble opinion then other horror rpg's on the market.
Why because of the fact that in addition to other Wretched rpg PC classes we get several new classes and playable races, such as Incubus/ Succubus, Loup-garou, and the Wampyr.

“Nobody owns life, but anyone who can pick up a frying pan owns death.”
― William S. Burroughs
The PC's own death & things far worse in Wretched Darkness. Wretched Darkness is very well done. And the PC's are going to be focus for violence, change, and worse. The worse plugs right into the works of
suchMaestros  as Clive Barker, David Cronenberg, David Lynch, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava, but expect sources of inspiration as varied as William Burroughs, Charles Bukowski, William Gibson, Paul Auster, exploitation movies and Leonard Cohen’s poetry. And while we've seen this before in Wretchploitation & other Red Room Rpg's. In Wretched Darkness it just hits differently. And Wretched Darkness feels like a 90's horror movie trailer that just came up on the VHS tape from the local video store.

Review & Commentary 'The Bastard King' By Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room For The Wretched Époque Rpg

"In the last months it seems a strange "epidemic” of suicide has taken over Paris, the authorities are trying to ignore it, but a small disturbing detail can't be overlooked forever: The  corpses of the afflicted were all marked by the same strange sign. Some call it the Sign of the Bastard. Its connection with a famous operetta titled The Bastard King will lead the characters down a road paved by peril and madness. Can they stop the Bastard King before becoming his next victims?"

The Bastard King is a really nasty little romp of an adventure from Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room for their Wretched Époque Rpg.  'The Sucide King' should be the name of this adventure as the PC's are led deeper & deeper into a mix of Robert W. Chambers mythos & the world of Parisian opera with a dash of adult horror thrown in! Murder or suicide?! The question comes deeply into play within Paris in the Bastard King. The question haunts the first part of this adventure deeply. And it's the Bastard King's demonic influence that laces it's way throughout. This colours & tinges everything around it within the demonic Chamberian madness that comes down on the characters heads like a house of cards.
The Bastard King is dynamic & Operatic at the same time lending itself to the fiction that Robert W.Chambers presented originally.

The Bastard King's NPC's NPC cast is both central & front 'n center to the horror action & very well drawn out by the by Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro's writing. This cast is very much within the Parisian & drawn into the action surrounding the Bastard King.

The Bastard King centers itself deeply within the world of Wretched  Epoque's society. The Bastard King is going to be one of those adventures that players are going to be talking for years to come if run correctly. The action & insanity weaves itself around the PC's within the Bastard King as all of the tools are within the adventure to run this as a complete mini campaign unto itself.

There's both a ton of investigative work & action within this adventure centering itself as a part of the Wretched  Epoque rpg.
The idea of madness incarnate running rampant within Paris society at all social levels is scare enough but adding in some of the encounters & horrors contained there in.
The Bastard King is very well written & layed out. Up to the usual standards of the Red Room.

The question becomes if the player's PC's will be the investigators or the victims of the Bastard King's wraith & influence. The Bastard King puts the terror back into Robert W. Chamber's creation & up within the Red Room's Wretched Époque Rpg product line. A solid entry within the ever widening range of Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro's creations! The question is will your PC's survive?!

If you like the Wretched Époque Rpg? Then 'The Bastard King' is a must have & will serve your campaign as a haunting reminder of why the Wretched Époque Rpg is such a haunted & well done OSR rpg.

Review & Commentary On "Coldheart Canyon" By Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room For The Wretched Country Rpg

"Coldheart Canyon is heavily inspired by John Carpenter's "not western westerns", especially Ghosts of Mars; any similarity is not a coincidence but an homage! The adventure is meant to be played as a one-shot, taking place over a single night, from dusk to dawn."

"The party arrives at a small forsaken town in the desert; they are beaten from the arduous voyage and in need of some respite, but what they find is a ghost town. Dudleytown appears empty at first, it seems like everybody has just vanished. Slowly the horrifying truth starts to be revealed. In the canyon, nearby miners have awakened an ancient alien force, that ravenously spread across town. There will be no rest tonight!"

"Coldheart Canyon" By Sílvia Clemente, &  Miguel Ribeiro is a ripper of an adventure! The set up is a one horse town's mine  used to have gold & now the miners have awakened something very murderous & dangerous. The set up reveals the details; "The party arrives at a small forsaken town in the desert; they are beaten from the arduous voyage and in need of some respite, but what they find is a ghost town. Dudleytown appears empty at first, it seems like everybody has just vanished. Slowly the horrifying truth starts to be revealed. In the canyon, nearby miners have awakened an ancient alien force, that ravenously spread across town. There will be no rest tonight!"  "Coldheart Canyon"  is for the  Wretched Country rpg & that game can handle anything from a straight up bank robbery to pillaging & murdering with little issue. But can Wretched Country handle a 1970's style Assault On Precinct 13 but done as a Western?!

The short answer to this question is that yes "Coldheart Canyon" By Sílvia Clemente, &  Miguel Ribeiro can handle it in spades. Why!? Because of the way that Coldheart Canyon is laid out. This is a completely done location adventure. NPC's are described & motives are laid bare, buildings & locations are completely fleshed out, and the whole package is thrust into the spotlight. And it's only then that we learn what & whom is behind the evil that is infecting Coldheart Canyon. And this is a formula that we've seen in other Red Room products. This isn't a bad thing because of the fact that Coldheart Canyon plugs directly into the Wretched Country rpg make up.

"Coldheart Canyon" By Sílvia Clemente, &  Miguel Ribeiro has the perfect set up for a zombie or weird possessed riot & siege in the style of John Carpenter. And yes this is a perfect Halloween adventure. And  "Coldheart Canyon"  continues the Red Room tradition of upping the quality of the adventures that continue to be produced. The A.I. artwork is better. the cartography is better, and even the writing seems a bit crisper. Not that the writing has been bad at all.
And  "Coldheart Canyon"  could actually be used with Wretched Époque & Wretched Country to create an ultimate early 1900's Western cum horror OSR game campaign.  "Coldheart Canyon"   is going to be a brutal blood bath & so the DM should be prepared with extra PC sheets & more ammo. The party is going to need it!

OSR Review & Commentary On All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version) By Miguel Ribeiro, & Sílvia Clemente For The Wretched Flesh Rpg & Other Wretchedverse or OSR Rpg's

"All Bets are Off is a mini-setting for Wretched New Flesh -Postcards from Avalidad. It adds the city of Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, to the Avalidad game world. Lisbon of the near future is a new entry in the infamous list of gambling and vice cities of the world, such as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Macao, Monaco and Singapore.

"There are several tie-ins to the original storyline through factions in the core book and plot hooks, which demand the characters to travel to the Iberian city. There’s also enough information to make Lisbon an alternative location for an Avalidad ongoing plot."

If there is one book that in my estimation is essential to the Wretched Flesh rpg its gotta be All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version) By  Miguel Ribeiro, & Sílvia Clemente. This is a faction book, adventure book, NPC, & key adventure plots for the Wretchploitation rpg, Wretched Flesh, and even Wretched Space. All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version) explores Lisbon as the center of the city of sin for the Iberian city. And this is a city on the edge with everything from supernatural weirdness crawling through it's underbelly to underworld ties within it's casinos.
What
All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version)  does is create a one hundred & fourteen page canvas of sin waiting to spring on the players' PC's. There's vice, murder, and worse within the streets of Lisbon just waiting to ooze onto players.
Miguel Ribeiro, & Sílvia Clemente do an excellent job of creating the Wretchedverse version of Lisbon a city that is being ripped apart at the seams by it's place in the world. And it has no problem ripping the PC's souls apart either. The factions here from the board room to the underworld play for keeps. And this is a book brimming with adventure possibilities in spades.
The Midjourney artwork here is perfect for the streets of Lisbon & the eleborate relationships between these factions is complex as well as ugly under the surface. You've got all of the factions within this book waiting on the players to screw up before they take their wallets, their lives, and possibly even their souls. And it's only to get worse as the Iberian city shows both sides of itself. Because the city within '
All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version) ' is as much of a character as the factions themselves.
'All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version) ' takes the PC's from the streets into the high roller's rooms in equal measure & isn't afraid to add in that Giallo edge that we've come to know & love from the Red Room.

And there's plenty of hooks, adventure arches, and plots to take PC's deep into the under growth of Lisbon. All this for six bucks the trip to Lisbon for your Wretched Flesh PC's is worth the price of admission.
Since the player's PC's are not supposed to be the 'good guys' the city of sin that is this version of Lisbon fits like a diseased glove at high noon. The factions such as the five families are only one aspect of All Bets Are Off (Wretched Version). And there's much more boiling below the surface.

Red Room A Wretch Flesh Mail Call - Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Manuel Sousa OSR Commentary - Blackguard update.

Hustlers of the world, there is one mark you cannot beat: the mark inside.
 William S. Burroughs

Thanks to the Red Room I got an updated Lulu copy of Wretch Flesh Post Cards from Availad. And yes, we went for the expensive hardcover. There's a lot to take within this three hundred & seventy nine page behemoth. Please ignore that copy of Invisible College rpg my players and concentrate Wretched New Flesh rpg.

Black magic operates most effectively in preconscious, marginal areas. Casual curses are the most effective. William S. Burroughs

The above William S. Burroughs quote sums up Wretch New Flesh quite nicely because
Avalidad, is the B/X D&D post humanity powered rpg I didn't know we needed. The fact that Avalidad is one of those marginalized areas. And it's so taken with it's place in the world that it doesn't know this fact. This  moves the game from simple Cyberpunk knock off rpg (its not)  into the realm of post modernist horror/science fantasy via Clive Barker paperback books, 90's horror, European Giagallo horror movies & more all spun into Avalidad the game campaign world ; "The game setting is centred on Avalidad, a futuristic city in Morocco, where corporations have been conducting research in genetics, cybernetics, augmented and virtual reality, and biotechnology. By default, characters are expected to be ZoneSec operatives or executives for Takeda Technologies, one of the most powerful corporations in Avalidad, but other roles such as Avalidad’s celebrities, fiscal royalty and seedy underbelly are also possible."

Our characters in Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg have actually been the Blackguard. A group of high caliber & high technological occult mercenaries who have gotten themselves in way over their heads within Avalidad numerous times.  They've stolen Takeda technologies numerous times, had their necromancers save their asses twice, gotten screwed over at least three times, and come face to face with some really nasty occult terrors. This has cost our group three operatives already.
And now the group of players is looking to ally themselves with some lovely sisters who may offer them some information. Information that will of course have a price. A very high price indeed.

So the three games which repeatly get used in our Blackguard campaign are 'The Invisible College By RPG Pundit' , Wretched New Flesh - Postcards from Avalidad Rpg  blends really well with the College. Both of these games have very different takes on ritual magick. And finallyNightshift Veteran of the Supernatural Wars gets throw into the mix. Because it has a very dynamic traditional Vancian take on magick which our players are familar with.

The Trap Is Sprung The Night Shift Veterans of the Supernatural Rpg With the Red Room's Seven Sisters of Sin Session Report & Items on Order - Night Shift: VSW GM Toolkit and Basic Rules By Jason Vey For The Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg

So over the weekend including today there was a lot of talk about Nightshift The Veterans of the Supernatural Wars rpg. After slaying  several of Count Orlock's spawn the players have decided to close in on the American lair in New York City. And that didn't go well as they found a false lair & several really nasty vampire wild spawn. And things went from bad to worse because of the fact that these things used mist forms and tactics to block any avenues of escape for the party. This is session picks right up from here.

For this group of nasties in tonight's game I grabbed a copy of Bradley K. McDevitt's

Clipart Critters 300- Vampire Blonde for tonight's game.

The creep factor came in when the party realized that the vampire's hair & flesh was morphing to that classic Nosforeau rat look as they kept up the melee. And then the party kept hairing the walls filled with plague infected  vicious rodents of unusual size.
The party had been set up by their street informant today. And was only able to get out of the dockside warehouse with a demon  teleportation scroll.
And that scroll's demon demanded two pints of blood & a story from the PC's. The little demonic twit wasn't something the players were expecting. They were expecting the usual D&D  teleportation spell.
Well, buying a teleport spell at the orge market from a back alley vendor in Brooklyn had unintended consquences. They now have a mouthy demonic tag along who might help them.
They'd love to find the orge street mage who sold it too them. For that guy I used

Clipart Critters 110 - Pierced Thug again by Brad McDevitt. The pierced thug is actually Mesopatamian summoner whose now tailing the party for his own reasons.

The party is now looking to hook up with a member of the order of nuns from the Red Room's Seven Sisters of Sin. The party is completely unaware of the order's tangled reputation among certain occult circles. And let's not mention the fact that the party still has to deal with Mr.Hyde.
And this doesn't even start the fact that the party burnt down the dockside warehouse before teleporting out of there. Now since Nightshift seems to be one of our working campaigns. I've opted to ordering the

Night Shift: VSW GM Toolkit and Basic Rules as a physcal tome.

There are several reasons for this, at the table top level we have to have a good DM screen. The various  tables are perfect for when I need a quick fix for an NPC. And finally I need a good  place to roll some dice behind said screen.
What we want to do is expand into the rest of New England  coming up for the Winter campaign season!

Reviews & Commentary 'The Goat Lady' by Sílvia Clemente & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room For The Wretched Rpg or Other OSR Rpg Systems

"On the Westernmost part of Kharabas, one can find the Kingdom of Baetica, a strange and eerie place inhabited by rude and superstitious folk. At the heart of the country stands the Biscaya mountains; they are ancient and mysterious, a place feared by most Baeticans. The ruler of Biscaya, lady Lydia Alvarez, seeks protection from her unruly subjects. What seemed to be an easy job for an experienced group of bastards will become trickier once the party discovers an ancient evil has been unleashed in the mountains. And it must be stopped before it is too late. A scenario inspired by an old Portuguese folk tale, The Goat-footed Lady, Richard Donner’s 1985 fantasy tale Ladyhawke and several low-budget horror movies."

The Goat Lady by Sílvia Clemente & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room is a forty two page dark adventure based on
Portuguese folk tales. And this adventure is very well done. Let me explain, 'The Goat Lady' presents itself as both an old school  adventure & a horror scenario.

We get a cast of NPC's who move the adventure along after the party becomes trapped in a storm; "
The party has been travelling on their way to the castle; it is a rough walk. They are following a winding and steep trail up the mountain. On one side, they have rocky and dark mountain walls and, on the other, a dark and deep abyss. Although it's still early in the afternoon, suddenly the sky turns dark. Then, a flash of lightning breaks the sky, followed by the roar of thunder; it starts to rain heavily. The characters have been caught in a bad storm."
So 'The Goat Lady' avoids the 'you all meet in a tavern' trope right off the bat. And from here the player's PC's meet a tarot reader and a young boy who puts them on the road to the castle of Lady Lydia. And the PC's get embroiled in the political goings on of the region. The villagers hated being ruled by a royal after her husband's death. The villagers are fighting a guarilla style war against the Lady Lydia & the player's PC's are hired to root out the rebels.
And things go from bad to worse as the party is subject to mountain of mystery. And the supernatural goings on there but things are actually centered around the castle. There's far more going on & around at the castle then meets the eye. The Goat Lady actually is an NPC driven point & dungeon crawl with lots & lots of supernatural elements within it. The NPC cast is interesting, the adventure locations dangerous, the supernatural happenings within The Goat Lady are well done. Where the adventure actually shines is when it's employed for the Wretched Bastards Rpg.

Why does 'The  Goat Lady' work for Wretched Bastards?! Because it showcases exactly what can be done with the system & done well. Supernatural happenings, deadly encounters, compelling game play, and more are where Wretched Bastards shines when paired with 'The Goat Lady'.
Could 'The Goat Lady' be paired with other OSR systems?! And in point of fact is can & that's where I think 'The Goat Lady' could work very well for the Lamentations of the Flame Princess rpg. You've got all of the adventure elements here for an excellent LoFP mini campaign. We've got powerfully written NPC's, weird supernatural happenings, solid political motives, & more.

The other OSR style system that 'The Goat Lady' could handle is the Lion & Dragon  rpg. Messed up royals, political rebellion, occult horror and more are all perfectly aligned with Dark Albion's themes. And with a bit of hand waving by the dungeon master the 'Goat Lady' could work very well within a mini campaign of Lion & Dragon.

'The Goat Lady' is an adventure that thrives on player PC play & interaction because of the fact that it's NPC driven and driven well. The Goat Lady is very well done & wouldn't be outta of place within a Ravenloft style horror campaign setting either. It's easy to squint and see the main antagonist as a Dark Lord villain.
And this also means that 'The Goat Lady' could be used for other OSR style games such as Castles & Crusades easily. The C&C players have all read all of the rules back to front & are jaded rpg's. An adventure like 'The Goat Lady' is the perfect spanner to throw into a campaign to have them questioning the campaign narritive.

The Goat Lady also has an unexplained aspect & that's the fact that the castle or it's lands are going to be up for grabs! Keep this in mind as 'The Goat Lady' could be a perfect horror adventure for  Adventurer, Conqueror, King rpg. Tempt the PC's with the lands haunted by supernatural horror & stay for the conquest & carnage!

So is the 'Goat Lady' worth the download?! Yes I think that Sílvia Clemente is a far more vicious rpg writer then many folks were expecting. The author knows her horror influences & The Red Room's adventures wear them on their OSR bloody sleeves. This is a solid entry from the Red Room and I can't wait to see what they come up with next!
'The Goat Lady' by Sílvia Clemente & Miguel Ribeiro From The Red Room For The Wretched Rpg or Other OSR Rpg Systems Is Availabe Here.

OSR Review & Commentary On 'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina' By Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro For The Wretched Bastards Rpg or Any OSR Fantasy Rpg

"Princess Lisabetta, the precious daughter of the King of Riget, has been cursed by her evil aunt. Between her legs, Lisabetta now has a monstrous carnivorous "octopussy". To bring the princess back to her natural self, an intrepid group of wretched adventurers must venture into the maze-like Citadel of Berleng and destroy the evil witch. But in a world of bastards, nothing is as simple as it seems and a dark, forbidden secret that will shake Riget is about to be revealed..."

The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina By Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro is actually a straight out dungeon crawl with lots of old school weirdness. There's a lot going wrong for the royals in this adventure; "Rigetans know the royal family has had some bad luck: first, the beloved prince Charles Sebastian disappeared in the lands of Corphye. Then the queen died, giving birth to princess Lisabetta. There is bad blood between king Goran and his sister, countess Golithya, and she was expelled from court. The king is rumoured to be highly unstable, the oldest son, prince George Ferdinand, a lazy fool, and Princess Lisabetta to suffer from some strange malady. Fortunately, his Holiness Ozirix III, the High Priest of Xhardox, has provided spiritual guidance to Goran and helped him with the burden of ruling Riget"
And it's actually up to the party take on the maze-like Citadel of Berleng and destroy the evil witch. And this is no easy task. The Citadel of Berleng is a twisting old school adventure location with lots of monsters, horrid rooms & locations, twisting hallways & even Lovecraftian horrors thrown in the mix. And there's a lot going on here within this twenty four pages. And this isn't going to be an easy adventure in the strictest sense & for the
Wretched Bastards role-playing game the adventurers are going to be in for a rough time. The maps & layout of the 'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina' is well done. The presentation up to the usual Red Room's standards.

The Citadel of Berleng isn't at all what it seems and the old pile is a twisting & dangerous maze of horror with plenty of opportunities for NPC interactions & PC death. Sure there's a good chance that 'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina' could be played over multiple sessions but it's more likely that the Citadel of Berleng is going to turn into a mini campaign for Wretched Bastards.

There's enough within 'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina'  to be more then a one note 'joke' adventure. Below the title is a really dangerous & utterly devious. It presents an adventure that over time a party could actually come away with some solid experience points, lots of treasure, & a pile of character sheets.

Where else could  'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina' work  as an OSR adventure? Well in any B/X powered OSR rpg system. But actually there are several OSR systems that immediately spring to mind. And one of those is Lamentations of the Flame Princesss. The adventure subject matter not to mention the deadliness dungeon crawl itself is really within the LoFP wheel house. All in all

Ulitmately,  'The Labia: The Strange Case of the Cursed Vagina' By Sílvia Clemente, & Miguel Ribeiro would also work with believe it or not Dark Albion or Lion & Dragon. The twisted fairy tale aspect of the adventure works on several levels and
Citadel of Berleng isn't going to be a push over even for experienced players.
