1d6 Random Demons of The Outer Void Encounter Table For Your Old School Campaigns

The Outer Void allows many spirits to bridge the shores of reality. They travel on the Winds of Darkness moving across the bows & breaks of the currents of the Astral to come to foreign shores. These spirits often take over corpses of warriors, strange wanderers, & the fallen. These spirits count as wights or even minor demons, they have often been in the void for centuries. Spirits such as these often carry out ancient agendas that have little meaning in the world of today. So these terrible spirits have to adapt & change to their surroundings.

Often 'Demons of The Outer Void' are summoned to 'Old Earth' & other worlds by means of a simple monster summoning spell. Often this is done by wizards seeking dangerous knowledge of certain Ancient Ones relics & artifacts that leave more questions then answers. The demons are often evasive & very deceptive giving the wizards just enough information to wet the appetites of their summoners. Other summoners use these monsters to create siege weapons when they possess ordinary animals or other prehistoric life forms. These possessions often create 1d8 mutations within the host one of which is always increased size.

A mirror of reality is always needed for the summoning of one of these spiritual monsters. The mirror is a 40,000 gold piece convex mirrored arrangements of lens that will show any nearby realities for those of a para natural occupation. It will take a skilled craftsman about a year to create the mind bending curves to see into the various levels of alternative realities.

Many times these entities are summoned by necromancers, black magus, & wizards for the sole purpose of advising royals, kings, & rulers about any relics, treasures or ancient artifacts that the Ancient Ones left behind. The demons will mislead, manipulate, & cause as much mayhem after 1d6 years & a day.

Mirrors of steel or silver, gold or glass antique!
Whether in melancholy marble palaces
In some long trance you drew the dreamy loveliness
Of Roman queens, or queens barbarical, or Greek:
Or, further than the bright and sun-pursuing beak
Of argosy might fare, beheld the empresses
Of lost Lemuria; or behind the lattices
Alhambran, have returned forbidden smiles oblique
Of wan mysterious women—mirrors, mirrors old,
Mirrors immutable, impassible as fate,
Your bosoms held the perished beauty of the past
Nearer than straining love might ever hope to hold;
And fleeing faces, lips too phantom-frail to last,
Found in your magic depth a life re-duplicate.

1d8 Random Dangerous Lovecraftian Demonic Patrons Encounter Table For Your Old School Campaigns

Rel 'The Strong' the red Martian mercenary checked his gun for the seventh time and nothing had changed with the ammo, the mechanisms, or the gun itself.  'Why are we in this part of the frelling wastelands?'
'We are tracking a mad man whose trying to get a hold of one of the lost talismans of Woe.' , Hashic Vro Tholian occultist's  answer was polite & straight to the point as usual.
'Do we have to be out in this heat & in the mid day?'
'Friend Rel, we will lose the element of surprise & the wizard will have our souls  if we don't'
And that's when the air shimmered & the first of the Lovecraftian demons appeared!
'I knew this was going to be a bad day' Rel managed to say in the shadow of the Martian ruins as the screams of the damned started!

There are  demons out in the void of space between the planets that dwell in the darkness of the asteroids. Foul & slippery things that no sane man likes to talk about. Wizards don't even think their names. There are whispers of course, there are always whispers in the back alley canteens & bars among the red sand haunted deserts of Mars. Tales, rites, & snippets of wisdom are told over strong brew & gold coins are exchanged in back alley temples.
These are demons that sometimes haunt the red sands of Mars in men dreams as well as  the weird reality of the here & now. They glide through  the ruins, the old dead sea bottom lost cities, and anyplace where the hand of man has been. Wizards often come to them for advice or worse. Many fools summon these horrors for the possible insights into dangerous relics or lost spells. More of the fool who takes them on as a demonic patron or foul master.

These beings are only half 'real' with a good portion of their bodies being made of the non corporeal substance of the Outer Void. Many of these horrors have the standard abilities of a higher ranking demon via the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual or Dungeon Master's Guide. They love nothing more then  to slip between the cracks of reality to cause mayhem on the mortal planes & sup on the souls of men & near men.

. "Like Atal in distant Ulthar, he strongly advised against any attempts to see them; declaring that they are testy and capricious, and subject to strange protection from the mindless Other Gods from Outside, whose soul and messenger is the crawling chaos Nyarlathotep. Their jealous hiding of the marvellous sunset city shewed clearly that they did not wish Carter to reach it, and it was doubtful how they would regard a guest whose object was to see them and plead before them. No man had ever found Kadath in the past, and it might be just as well if none ever found it in the future. Such rumours as were told about that onyx castle of the Great Ones were not by any means reassuring."
The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath  (1943)  by H.P. Lovecraft

"That place is deader than an Egyptian morgue," observed Harper.
"Certainly it is far more ancient," Octave assented. "According to the most reliable legends, the Yorhis, who built Yoh-Vombis, were wiped out by the present ruling race at least forty thousand years ago."
"There's a story, isn't there," said Harper, "that the last remnant of the Yorhis was destroyed by some unknown agency—something too horrible and outrĂ© to be mentioned even in a myth?"

1d4 Random Ancient Pacts With Demons of the Outer Void Table

Between the cracks of reality & the unreality of the fluid places where demons dwell there is are those bargainers who work each & every mortal mark they can with their dark powers of guile. Destruction of the immortal soul is their ultimate aim. But they do it with a flourish and a style for those wizards who think of themselves superior to each and every demonic essence in the blackness of the Outer Void.

These demonic bargainers may be called up with a simple Summon Monster spell variation found in many back room black magick scrolls or even some magazines of the Ancient Ones. A simple deal is struck for the immortal soul of the summoner & the essence forms a deadly possession of the summoner. Mutations & changes bubble, form as the essence of chaos flows through the fool.

1d4 Random Ancient Pacts With Demons of the Outer Void Table

  1. Perfection Realized - The summoner becomes a perfect physical specimen in fact too perfect. They're Charisma score goes down by -3 as the alien perfect disturbs those around them. Men & women will lust after them  but others will hunt and try to murder them. There is an eerie artificial quality  about them and caster can not shake this perfection as wounds will heal superficially perfect but damage will be internal. Some of the summoner's physical processes will be alien as well. Eye color will be off a bit and no one can look the person in the eye for more then 1d4 rounds without profoundly realizing that something is incredibly off about the person.
  2. The Black Void's Kiss - The summoner is modified for a life among the stars & their bodies are encased in a sheet of bioengineered bio plastic that breaths and mimics human skin. But this is a creation of demonik chaos & weird alien technologies. The skin adds +4 to the PC's constitution score and they can operate within the void but they are no longer even remotely human. Save vs Fear  must be made anything with lower then 5 hit points when they catch sight of the person. Sex, anything resembling human love, etc are out of the question as the summoner has become a child of the void. They are immune to gas and only take half damage from electrical attacks as per their para demonic nature.
  3. The Bald Man's Lies - The summoner's tongue & eyes are removed, they are replaced with an alien orbs and a literal silver tongue. The summoner gains the demonic charm ability three times per day and has access twice per day to perceive nearby other dimensional or forbidden realms of reality. He also has the ability to cast wizard's eye twice per day. He has become a para demonic creature will be hunted where he goes. This pact is often given to heads of demons of the outer void cults in exchange for supplicants souls.
  4. The Alien Way - The summoner is modified for life on an alien world or demonic realm. Skin, eyes, etc are modified as the demonic entity sees fit for a new forbidden reality. The summoner gains 1d4 random demonic traits & becomes subject to all of the weaknesses of demons. But the summoner is now physically immortal and able to live on any of the forbidden para demonic worlds.
