Agents of Shield Episode Three Trailer and Review For Your Old School Super Hero Campaigns

S.H.I.E.L.D.,” ABC aired a sneak preview of episode 3, which is called “The Asset.”
“The Asset” – When the brilliant scientist Dr. Franklin Hall is kidnapped, Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents must race against the clock to locate him. Skye is their only way in — pushing the team to their limits when the entire plan turns upside-down.

My thoughts about episode two can be found right over

The gloves are starting to finally come off and this time it looks like we're going to be diving into the deeper end of the Shield end of the Marvel universe.
This looks to be about the time when the minor big reveals start happening in the show and we're starting to really get into exactly what or who some of the villain action actually is going to be.
The party errm team is starting to really come together and the action flows into pace quite nicely.
The by play of the characters is pretty damn smooth and we're starting to see elements of the story line starting to gel. Make no mistake this is going to be a show with some play time with super villains. The build up has been slow for a main stream ABC Disney show but its there.
Basically every thing in this trailer screams more and more. We're going to be going in deeper into this universe, the relationships are going to get tighter, and all of the usual Marvel fodder is going to be in full effect.
What does this all mean?
It means that the show is about to get a whole lot more interesting and the stakes are going to get higher. Here are few quick and dirty predictions
  • More foreshadowing about Agent Coulson and his continuing issues with life after Tahiti. After all it's a magical place.
  • There will be deeper background into the technology of the Post Alien invasion universe.
  • A reveal on one small aspect of the Marvel Villain action.
  • There will be another agent's history tie into this week's episode.
  • What does this all mean with regards to an old fashioned Super Hero Campaign?
Agents of Shield Old School Marvel Campaign

This is the part of a super hero campaign where things are really beginning to gel. We've got the party in this case our Agents becoming comfortable with one another and if this show sticks with its trends we're going to see things getting exciting. How can you as a DM use this?
The All this and WWII adventure for Marvel Super Heroes springs to mind while watching this trailer. Last week's episode touched on many of the aspects of that episode. Nazi super weapons, the Red Skull, Capt America, and the Alien Invasion were all mentioned. The adventure takes quite a bit of team work to pull off and its one of those that really has that 'middle of the game but not quite the  hit the ground running campaign' vibe to it things happening.

However given the low level supers aspect of Agents 'The After Midnight' series might be a bit of a better fit.
However given the whole nature of this series charting its own course in the Aftermath of the Avengers movie DM's might also want to do the same.
  • There is one box set that I keep coming back to again and again for lots of Supers games. One of those box sets that is so damn useful it always seems handy.
  • In my case the 'Marvel Superheroes Deluxe City Campaign Box Set' has seen action more times than I can count. From Champions to Aberrant this is one box set that I always seem to turn to.

Available right over

Add to that set 'New York New York', 'Concrete Jungle', and 'Avengers Assemble' then your on your way to some Marvel Super Heroes Early 80's action.

  • All available right over

More coming up Tuesday!

  1. I haven't been too impressed with the SHIELD show so far, but it's still new, so I'll give it time.

  2. I'm still relatively new to the series and so its been a wait to see where it goes Trey. There are three things about these, one is that this is a Disney Marvel series so its going to take time to get out of its own way. Two the series has done some wonders to renew my interest in 'Super Hero Rpgs' especially the Classic Marvel Role Playing game. And its been using some little known areas of the Marvel universe.
I'll give it a bit more before I make a decision. In the meantime its been a been doing its job. Its been keeping me watching
    Thanks for the comment.
