Review & Application of Tainted Conception By Silvia Clemente For The Wretched New Flesh Postcards From Aviladad Rpg

"A Holiday season-themed scenario for Wretched New Flesh – which could work in any other near future setting – taking place in a biotech corporation’s Christmas party (yeah, very original, we know)."

"In this one-shot adventure for Wretched New Flesh the players will take on the role of guests at the Nakatomi Genetics Inc Christmas party. The party takes place at the corporation headquarters, the Nakatomi Towers and will be suddenly interrupted by a group of terrorists... any similarity with that film you are thinking of is not a mere coincidence."

If your looking for something weird, slightly off kilter, and with slant towards the weird holiday adventure then Tainted Conception By Silvia Clemente might be right up your OSR rpg alleyway. Terrorists have invaded a high end Christmas party in Aviladad at the Nakatomi Genetics Inc building. Stop me if you've heard this one before. Because while Tainted Conception is a love letter to the classic Eighties film. Faster then you can say, 'Welcome to the party pal'. This adventure flips the script. There are tons and tons of twists and turns in the form of random tables, adventure hooks, compelling NPC's. And a cast of terrorists, scientists, and party goers with thier own agendas to hide. Tainted Conception clocks in at fifty one pages & does several things right. Good layout, easy to read, and good artwork even if some of it is A.I. generated.
Tainted Conception is very well done with a ton of material to tie it right into Wretched New Flesh Second Edition easily. The material within this adventure is strictly geared in & grounded in Avilidad and it shows. Tainted Conception might be the perfect adventure to run for a beginning group of Wretched New Flesh PC's. It's got lots of action, an engaging plot, twisted & interesting NPC's and plenty of lead offs to get the Wretched Flesh action going off of the towers.

Nakatomi Genetics Inc  is a corporation with secrets and some of thos can as well as will kill PC's at the drop of a hat. There's lots more going on here then at first meets the eye. And the adventure takes it's time getting to it's high points but when it does then the adventure gets the action moving. With tons of random tables and options this adventure never has to play the same way twice. And the writing is fast paced almost but not quite balls to the walls. Tainted Conception does not take itself seriously but it's a weird by the seat of your pants adventure. And there's enough twist and turns to customize this adventure for your group of players.
With the right group of players Tainted Conception could well be the jump point off for a host of lively and highly entertaining advventure to boot. Are there any critiisms of Tainted Love then?! The matterial here is very well done but the adventure itself needs a bit of a going over by an editor to really add it into an intigrated Advilidad. And it  does this with a professional editor who can add another dimension to Tainted Conception. Because with a bit more polish this could be a really premium adventure. Silvia's writing is on point here and really she's come a long way in her adventure writing and design.
Is Tainted Conception worth getting? Absolutely and I do believe it's one of the essential adventures for Wretched New Flesh. And this is one of the solid adventures for the  Wretched New Flesh rpg.

Wampir You Say?! - Cities Without Number & Orbital Decay One Shot - Session Two

The player's PC's were able to get a bit of intel on the off the books facility. It seems it belongs to a combined of medical mega corporations. 'Elftown' wasn't as forth coming as they'd hoped and they ran into two of Mr.Smith's Troll enforcers suits and machineguns. The party ran only out a thousand dollars!

This session picks up right where the last one left off  with the crew of operators aboard the off the books facility. Within the operators from last week's game which is where we pick up find any number of zero point energy generators aboard. The also find it plugged into a huge number of life support and medical equipment. This was no off the books data facility?! Instead it's a huge medical complex! A huge medical complex that belongs to whom?

They found body after body with VR helmets on them! After snapping lots and lots of pictures the runners found a terminal and jacked in. Things went from bad to worse as they found themselves inside what appeared to be a video game wampir apocalypse. There were zero safety protocals as the jackers found themselves up against some very nasty critters who it turned out were the guys in the VR helmets as the vampires!
Oh and this is where the cybertoothed cat guards showed up waking up out of cryosleep! It seems like the 'Echo facility wants too keep it's secrets! Next week we pick up with the PC's fighting for thier lives.

A Shadow & An Echo - Cities Without Number & Orbital Decay One Shot - Session Report One

So it's been some weeks since our players have done anything with our Cities Without Number rpg campaign. And then tonight last second I get a call that all seven of my players are in town and want a game. This time I was ready for them. Lately the Red Room has been moving towards OSR rpg setting with thier own inhouse OSR rpg system. So tonight with few random dice rolls with Orbital Decay I got the operators to break into a secure orbital data facility.

The player's PC's were hired by a Mr. X patron and brought aboard a nearby orbital hotel & given 20,000 credits as well as maps, tools, etc. to break into the facility. A facility that is not supposed to be there and isn't on the corporate books.
The PC's were able to get a few universal code cards to use in tonight's game. And after a generous half down for the job. The PC's bribed thier way onto a supply shuttle & got the low down on the facility which seems to be manufacturing bioroids for some military prototype models.
The ice around the facility is incredibly tough and there appears to be some sorta of Theta radiation screen as well?!
The place does not exist according to all current records and is simply called Echo. There's a hazy of dread hanging around the place. The facility resupplies every 43 days and the players want thier PC's to slip in.
At this time they want more information about the place and are paying a 'Mr.Smith' for more infomation as they approach the facility. All of this was rolled up 1 hour before game time using Wretched New Flesh second edition.

The player's operators are going to have to do some recon dirtside near 'Elftown' and get the lowdown on the 'Echo facility'. They know a 'Mr. Smith' in 'Elftown' but their not sure if he's trust worthy.

OSR Review & Commentary On Penney Tower By J.G. Desborough For The Wretched New Flesh Second Edition Rpg

Penney Tower was just released at the Red Room store, @biggeekemporium

and . It will be available later at Lulu.com in softcover. Penney Tower is a city sourcebook and an alternative location for the world of Wretched New Flesh, inspired by JG Ballard, and authored by ."

Penney Tower s a hard creation to get a handle on because it harkens back to the early days of the OSR & even in some early repects the appearance of The Red Room. The video by Grimjim basically covers the most basic aspects of Penney Tower. Penney Towers takes place in alternative & yet all too familar world of a JG Ballard universe. Penney Towers is a world unto itself where it's strange inhabitants have become literal residents and citizens for all time. Because Penney Towers is different every time you play it.

First of all when it comes to a physical copy of Penney Tower make sure you've got a copy of a Tarot deck handy. Not only is the Tarot necessary but absolutely vital to getting the full effect of the adventure/resource book's impact that is Penney Tower. Pay attention to the video for vital clues that make up this adventure location that is Penney Towers.
And Penney Towers loses itself deeply in the themes of  The  Wretched New Flesh Second Edition Rpg & JG Ballard's Science Fiction & Fantasy creations. Alienation, the Seventies brutalism asthetic, the weirdness of the Science Fiction, and even the deep horror of the Penney Towers itself. And trust me the horror is right front and center at the level of some of the classic Lamentations of the Flame Princess rpg adventures.

Penney Towers could be an alternative Wretched New Flesh second edition setting or simply another universe intruding on the reality of Aviladad. And it's the latter that we'll be going with. And Zonetec would have an absolute field day with Penney Towers. And a party of Zonetec enforcers might not make it out of the towers.
And then the next question becomes could they?!
If the reality Penney Towers London intrudes on the time period of Wretched New Flesh then the weird Seventies Ballardarian vibe of the place could begin to infect reality. Slowly the 'weirdness bacteria' of the Towers begins moving out into the surrounding neighborhoods.
While Wretched New Flesh second edition rpg is weird Penney Towers takes this weirdness is a whole other level. Because each and everytime it's a literally different place.

Penney Tower By J.G. Desborough is well layed out, the fonts are easy on the eye. And the themes are creepy enough for many different gamers and hobbyists to really get an idea for this wacked out adventure location. James does an excellent job bringing his flair for Ballard and translating it into a full on Seventies world unto itself called Penney Towers. And for the Red Room crowd who loves thier Science Fiction and fantasy different grab this one! Well worth the 10 dollars and Penney Towers isn't someplace to stay but it may just become your PC's home.

Urban Hunt - Lamentations of the Flame Princesss & Wretched New Flesh Second Edition Adventure Idea

So this morning I began to look deeper into a discussion that we had around the table top about Lamentations of the Flame Princess rpg.  And we were talking about the fact that someone once described LoFP as an 'OSR horror rpg disguised as a retroclone'. Now this put me on the trail of using LoFP for a modern horror game. And in various OSR Facebook groups LoFP has become 'the forbidden rpg game' of choice. Mostly because of the controversies surrounding James Raggi IV & his authors. Which has absolutely nothing to do with what we're gonna speak about. Now specifically I want talk about the magic users or wizards in LoFP.

Wizards at first level get the spell summon. Summon can gate in just about anything literally into an OSR game. We've used this with Castles & Crusades and many other OSR games.
When the summon spell is cast then we use the Esoteric Creature generator or the handy generator included in the spell's description.
And while talking about LoFP we sorta fixated on the idea of some high school or college age NPC junior occultist in one of our Wretchedverse rpg campaigns.
And this is the case with Wretched New Flesh Second edition.

Wretched New Flesh second edition is available through
the Red Room store, and

Imagine if you will that some rebellious teen or college age student gets a hold of an occult or esoteric scroll or book with a summon spell. And opens a door into the supernatural world summoning who knows what into the  mega city of  Avalidad. And here's where the PC's get called into the situation by Zontec. And then the PC's have to pick up the mess and grab this young man or woman before
he or she unleashes something even worse!

First Impressions Of The Wretched New Flesh - Second Edition Rpg By The Red Room

"Wretched New Flesh - Second Edition RELEASED! Now available at the Red Room store,

and . Wretched New Flesh transports players to a dystopian future inspired by the dark visions of William S. Burroughs, David Cronenberg, William Gibson, JG Ballard and Clive Barker. "

"This surreal future-noir roleplaying game setting combines elements of cyberpunk, biopunk, and psi punk to create a nightmarish world where libertarianism and unchecked corporate power lead to decadence, violence, and oppression. 648 pages stock full of new setting information and expanded rules (hacking, forensics, investigation, city building, etc)."

Wretched New Flesh - Second Edition Rpg was sent to me by it's authors the other day. And WNF 2nd is a six hundred & forty eight page beast of an Rpg. Wretched New Flesh takes place in the not so distant future or is it?! This is a surreal Science Fictional and Fantasy universe with a Neo Noir asthetic. And Earth as we have known it has changed in dramatic ways. According to Wretched New Flesh 2nd edition; "In this alternate reality, instead of reintegrating the International Zone territory (formerly administered by France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, and the United States) back into Tangiers, the Moroccan state made a deal with an international conglomerate of several corporations interested in investing in northern Africa." Now imagine that the future of Earth is controlled by some of the most evil and dangerous corporations to manufacture the world in which we live. The world of the mega city of  Avalidad has changed & expanded.
Basically, the newer incarnation of the  Wretched Rpg rules have been back incorporated into the
Wretched New Flesh - Second Edition Rpg, and most of the optional Wretched New Flesh optional rules have been reigned into the newest incarnation. And best of all it's 99.0% cross compatible with all of the other Wretchedverse rpg titles.

But is it worth grabbing The Wretched New Flesh - Second Edition Rpg?! In a word oh yes! The Red Room has pulled out all of the stops and the mega city of  Avalidadis even more dangerous. You've got new factions, back compitability, new takes on monsters and NPC's, old NPC's upgraded, dangerous cracks in New Flesh's reality as the Beyond takes hold. New threats, and old threats threading thier way through the adventures within the mega city of  Avalidad. The powers & princedoms of the Beyond have been upgraded as well. There's lots and lots of changes to the Wretched New Flesh setting that we know and love.
Is Wretched New Flesh Second edition actually usable?! In a word yes! T
he mega city of  Avalidad can host anything from OSR super heroes to surreal horror plus more!
