The Demonic & The Wretched - Wretched Darkness rpg And the Demonic Tome by Rafael Chandler

Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
Mathew 12:45

So this morning I'm sitting around the diner with my players & we're discussing the Red Room. We've been talking for a solid month about doing a Wretched Darkness campaign coming up. We've done one shots and solitary adventures here & there. Now there are a metric ton of resources in the book to run a sustained urban or dark fantasy campaign. The problem is holding the player's attention with Wretched Darkness because it's a new game. There are a few tricks up my sleave yet that might just do it.

Imagine what might happen if the world of the near future became infected by demons. And no one really noticed.
No seriously the world just goes on as it is. The weird and unhinged occult world begins to intrude on other supernatural creatures terrorities and here's where things get interesting.
So instead of using the usual OSR supplements I decided to go with the Demonic Tome By Rafael Chandler. There are several reasons why?! The first of which is that all of the Wretched Darkness material goes to 10th level and the Demonic Tome goes to seventh. The second reason is that the Demonic Tome By Rafael Chandler is not that well known outside of OSR horror circles.
One aspect of the supernatural invading the other is an old formula. And this can easily lead to other aspects of horror growing in power and might.

The NPC demons are going to be growing in power and influence. The opening salvo of television style influence for this campaign is going to be late Eighties horror television programing such as Friday The 13th the Series and perhaps Gallio movies such as 'The Beyond'. We've been looking into cop shows and investigative murder shows as well as horror rpg's such as the original Kult rpg as well.
Is such a  campaign sustainable over the long haul?! This is the question that right now is echoing through my head.  Wretched Darkness  is an excellent rpg and certainly can sustain a long term campaign. Can it sustain one such as what I'm elevator pitching to our players?!
Only time will tell!

OSR Commentary On The Lexicon Geographicum Arcanum vol 1 Species of the Hollow Earth By Andrew Marrington For The Lamentations of the Flame Princess Rpg

Lexicon Geographicum Arcanum vol 1 Species of the Hollow Earth By Andrew Marrington is one of those campaign setting books that deserves more time in the light. Years ago we did a review on and then nothing.

The campaign's review is something that I'm going to stick by; "What the 'volume of Lexicon Geographicum Arcanum' does is provide the Dungeon Master & his players with a richly detailed setting book that sets up the traditional Mentzer Dungeons & Dragons races into a social wedding cake of civilizations, cultures, etc. that all hit the high notes of mythology & pop culture. This is based around the take of the author/designer Andrew Marrington who does an excellent job for taking a home campaign series of notes into a fully fleshed out setting book. The lay out is exceptional & the artwork very nicely done." What makes The Lexicon Geographicum Arcanum vol 1 Species of the Hollow Earth By Andrew Marrington exceptional is the attention to details; ' These empires don't simply include the usual Dwarven, Elven, & Halflings. Instead we have Formorians & Neanderthals whose might is both black magick itself & very subtle within this inner Earth. There a consistency of alternative PC classes & solid work here for the players to digest.
'
And yesterday I was looking into possibly using 'The Lexicon Geographicum Arcanum vol 1 ' as buffer with Rafael Chandler's 'World of the Lost'. There's so much crossover potential here because of the Hollow Earth aspect.

Crossing these two fantastic LoFP resources could potentially give the DM tons of options to set adventures within an LoFP Hollow Earth with competing non human empires with the LoFP player's PC's trying to exploit the situation. You know this isn't going to go well at all.
Between getting in dutch with the dinosaurs, the dwarven nation, and more it's only a matter of time before the inner world locks in on events happening in Europe. And yes we're looking England Upturn'd here. Because of the English Civil War's events the Hollow World and it's armies might just have an easy time to take the upper world quite easily. Between plague, violence, and more it doesn't take a great deal strikes against Europe to take the entire chess board. And what a campaign that would make.

The Path of Forever - The Profane & The Hellish - Elf Lair Games Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg By Jason Vey & Tomothy Brannan Session Report & Monster Workshop Now With More Kasimir Urbanski's "The Invisible College" rpg

"I embrace hardship and privation with ecstatic delight; I want everything the world holds; I would go to prison or to the scaffold for the sake of the experience. I have never grown out of the infantile belief that the universe was made for me to suck. I grow delirious to contemplate the delicious horrors that are certain to happen to me. This is the keynote of my life, the untrammeled delight in every possibility of existence, potential or actual."
    Ch. 54
The Confessions of Aleister Crowley (1929)

This blog entry picks up right where our last blog excusion left off. We go  into the bowels of a supernatural & occult  thought exercise in a campaign set into a world of  mixing  both 'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan & Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg  at the table top.

So what scares some members of Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg? The samething that has scared members of every occult & supernatural society from time immorrial. And that is death. Even those whose practices can create bolts of supernatural damnation must & will bow to the blade of the reaper as will we all! Or will we?! In the highest levels of occult sciences & supernatural practices there are literal physical immortals who practice immortality at a very high end of the scale in  "The Invisible College" rpg
So there are literally immortals who might have been around since the forgotten times of mankind. Immortals who are quite literally willing to do anything to secure their own fleeting immortality. Sacrifice an enite people or country?! No problem at all. Genocide an entire civilization? Sure why not to ensure another two thousand years or so. These monsters of the  "The Invisible College" rpg are the true manipulators who move entire family lines of minions just get their points made. These immortals are invited onto the path of divinity & then things get weird. Even these monsters pale in comparison to the true manipulators of evil & good. We're speaking here of the B/X immortals those who have the insane desire to walk the next path of immortality.

While it is possible to step from the "The Invisible College" rpg to the Frank Mentzer path of immortality. Its going to be very rate indeed. Because the incredible price that must be paid is very high in both occult power & ingrediants to maintain  existence. These immortals sometimes create for themselves cults around them going against many of the principles of magick itself. According to Crowley, " I do not want to father a flock, to be the fetish of fools and fanatics, or the founder of a faith whose followers are content to echo my opinions. I want each man to cut his own way through the jungle." Some of the immortals merely want ot maintain their own grasp on phyical & spiritual power. They use their own  wizards as immortals use other adventurers to fufill an agendas of temporal & mercurial power.

Both sets of immortals often bring themselves into conflicts with mortals & magicians who are far down on the ladder of adventure. This pecking order is the same that we see time & again used in fantasy author's creations such as Michael Moorcock's dark fantasy & science fiction creations. A pecking order well established within   Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan.

Not only are wizards of the "The Invisible College" rpg aware of other worlds such as Greyhawk or Mystara but they absolutely seek these out for the rare ingrediants that such places hold. The cross point is that risk of the immortals or gods of these realms becoming aware of the supernatural tresspassers into their realms! A fact not lost on the demonic & infernal hellspawn of Rafael Chandler 's Demonic Tome 'a pay what you want title'

But why?! What draws the infernal to these magus of the "The Invisible College" rpg as more then simply another meal or soul?! We'll get into that coming up because nothing lasts forever. Not even immortality itself.

Picking Your Battle Grounds - The Profane & The Hellish - Elf Lair Games Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg By Jason Vey & Tomothy Brannan Session Report & Monster Workshop Now With More Kasimir Urbanski's "The Invisible College" rpg

" Do not imagine that art or anything else is other than high magic! - is a system of holy hieroglyph. The artist, the initiate, thus frames his mysteries. The rest of the world scoff, or seek to understand, or pretend to understand; some few obtain the truth."

    Aleister Crowley

The problem as its been seen by fellow DM's is the fact that we're so eager to believe in world grinding conspiracies these days. Corporations engage in campaigns against their own consumers. Governments hold on to power anyway they can & where does this leave the common man?! With mystery & magick! If you think that our reality is the only one. Think again! This blog post picks right up from our last one here.

You've got to realize that travelers between planes & dimensions are not going to tell anyone who they are in reality. They get along with their occult assignments & move on. The world's inhabitants are going to turn to the 'subtle sciences' of magick & the occult. Last time we asked the question
is there room enough on the table top for both 'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan & Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg  at the table top?!  And the answer was yes!

If your expecting gouts of Hellfire & brimstone those are isolated incidents straight from horror movies & they happen.. And Hell isn't interested in taking apart the status qou. If anything Hell is interested in maintaining our reality as we know it.

This is right in line with the precepts of the definition of Lawful Evil. By its very definition it comes darkly into play; "
Lawful evil is sometimes called "diabolical," because devils are the epitome of lawful evilLawful evil creatures consider their alignment to be the best because it combines honor with a dedicated self-interest. Lawful evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil." So the traditional definiation of fist edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragon's alignment stands at least until the trumps blow for Revelation. Let's go straight back into the fact that the things you actually have to watch out for on a street level game are going to be the demons. These things of the Abyss straight out of the D&D Rules cyclopedia are going to be more then a match for the average magus even in the Invisible College  rpg.

The Abyss operates exactly as Crowley talked about black magick, "Black magic is not a myth. It is a totally unscientific and emotional form of magic, but it does get results — of an extremely temporary nature. " This is the very essence of chaotic evil & Chaos itself. Temporary results or the quick way of power. The convient way of power is the quick path of that power. When power is offered on a plate in unexpected ways humans jump at the chance. They seldom realize where this power originates. So where does using Rafael Chandler 's Demonic Tome 'a pay what you want title'  come into play? It comes into play as these demonic forces begin to invade the PC's life. They bleed into reality from backrooms, the board rooms, & from your neighbors.  The infernal & Abyssial  universe right next door is knocking. And it wants in.

The only ones who can stop this are going to be those movers & shakers of the
Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg. These magus can & will change the results of a battle field in Eastern Europe, the skyrocketing economy of a first world nation, & cut off the supply of success to Silcon Valley firm. International corporations &  governments have been using these demons & evils as subtle  weapons for decades.  And this weakening of the fabric of reality has been allowing other planes to wash up against our reality all of the time. People can wander into other times & places only to come back changed. This is the origin for some of the PC's in our own campaign version of Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan.

These wash overs of other realities happen at the fringes of our own. These create the ruins, dungeons, etc. that PC's are called to. These are places of the otherworldly & places created by the otherworld forces that over arch our plane from elsewhere. If this campaign of thought seems influenced by Michael Moorcock it rightfully is. We'll get into that next time.

The Profane & The Hellish - Elf Lair Games Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg By Jason Vey & Tomothy Brannan Session Report & Monster Workshop Now With More Kasimir Urbanski's "The Invisible College" rpg

" If you examine the highest poetry in the light of common sense, you can only say that it is rubbish; and in actual fact you cannot so examine it at all, because there is something in poetry which is not in the words themselves, which is not in the images suggested by the words 'O windy star blown sideways up the sky!' True poetry is itself a magic spell which is a key to the ineffable.
    "

    Aleister Crowley

This post is gonna pick right back up where this blog post ended. Today we're gonna rewind the clock back a bit. Because we got together last night & began to discuss B/X OSR rpg options & resources.
Why?! Because we hadn't examined one or two B/X occult mega resources for 'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan. Namely Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg from Amazon. You can read my review of 'The Invisible Colllege' here.

Right off the bat this blog post is made with the following warning. I don't care about any of the rpg designer's political views or camps. Timothy Brannan over the years on his 'Otherside  blog' has reviewed lots & lots of  Kasimir Urbanski's rpg titles & vice versa. So let's dive right back in.

"Indubitably, magic is one of the subtlest and most difficult of the sciences and arts. There is more opportunity for errors of comprehension, judgment and practice than in any other branch of physics."

    Aleister Crowley

So lets get back to the fact that 'the Invisible College's occult & mundane forces  may be the only thing standing between our normal reality & infernal Hell on Earth. I'm not talking Harry Potter here but the promise of the Golden Dawn realized! The idea that visitors from one universe might be coming to pollute our own during the Eighties! The Sixties occult awakening led to the Seventies Supernatural Cold War. But both Russia & America realized that each other wasn't the true enemy here. The powers that be of the Invisible College are minor players in the B/X multiverse here.

The Invisible Collège offers full on B/X style occult demons. So let's go with that for a moment. These are scouts straight out of the multiverse probing for weakness within the fabric of our lower vibrational quantum reality. International governments have been using these demons & evils as subtle  weapons for decades.
World of Darkness?! Cthulhu?! No this is far more dangerous stuff here. These demonic forces from the Plane Prime next door are weapons of mass deception of the highest caliber.
But is there room enough on the table top for both 'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan & Kasimir Urbanski's   "The Invisible College" rpg  at the table top?!
Yes & in point of fact here's my suggestion for the cults that are trying to bring about the destruction of the Earth! Grab a copy of Kevin Crawford's  Silent Legions rpg in addition!

Why?! Because the real enemy who'd be trying to wreck the world as we know it would be the supernatural  cells & cults springing up in board rooms & back alleyways across planet Earth in the Eighties.

Think about it?! Your neighbors, your friends, relatives, & strangers might all be veying for power across your home town. The real issue? What if they get it? What if that power comes from a whole other universe whose supernatural cancer wants to spread?! Would the cure already be in place?! That's where 'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan comes in.
With these three powerhouse games you as the DM can build ANY supernaturally oriented campaign from the ground up! This will have years of miliage within it! Why?! Because essentially this is all OSR B/X powered supernatural & occult goodness. You can & add or subtract as needed.

Where does using Rafael Chandler 's Demonic Tome 'a pay what you want title'  as the basis for a Horror Pulp style invasion of Hell on Earth come into play?! Soon but let's take this slowly because we're in the middle of Hell folks!

The Profane & The Hellish - Elf Lair Games Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg By Jason Vey & Tomothy Brannan Session Report & Monster Workshop

"Demons feed on innocent souls and obliterate cities. Human victims are possessed, devoured, and damned. Unfortunately, the world's last line of defense is a group of ultra-violent cannibals wielding unholy magic."

This is a follow up to yesterday's blog post on retooling our Veterans of the Supernatural Wars rpg. Today we started discussing

'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan could have an infernal campaign definited by a band of infernal NPC demonic villains & we've got the perfect OSR  solution.

Game campaigns are often as good as the enemies that the players are facing & sometimes its all within the enemies. Welcome to the Eighties when the Earth went to Hell & the demonic came home to roast! Now what happens  when the 'Heroes of New England' have the demonic neighbors from across the dimensional dive come to call?! The 'heroes' from one universe could be the demonic evils of another universe! What the Hell are you talking about?! We're talking about using Rafael Chandler 's Demonic Tome 'a pay what you want title'  as the basis for a Horror Pulp style invasion of Hell on Earth.

How do you describe this one hundred & thirty two page OSR supplement/modernish campaign setting!? Well try & imagine the Bible's Book of Revelation combined with White Wolf's Hunter The Reckoning but with an OSR death metal paint job this is 'The Demonic Tome'! And the weirdly altered demonic adventurers are the perfect NPC villains for a group of
'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan PC's.  The Earth shudders under the weight of the books of Pandomonium. The doors of Hell have been flung open & only the PC's can save their Earth! The demonic hordes lead by other adventurers come to call.

There are a few  areas where the invasion could begin San Fanscisco, New York City, The Saint Loius arch, or Los Angeles. These ares are iconic & have urban legend credit when it comes to having gate ways to the bowels of Hell itself. For handling the minor incursions of the diabolic & demonic use the demons & devils from the D&D Rules Cyclopedia (Basic). This will give the players a touch stone with their old school roots.

Then unleash the hordes of Hell from Rafael Chandler 's Demonic Tome! This might be a perfect way to have the PC's explore an Earth that literally teiters on the edge of Hell itself.

Monster A Go Go - Elf Lair Games Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg By Jason Vey & Tomothy Brannan Session Report & Monster Workshop

    "We Are the Night Shift...
We alone stand against the vampires, werewolves, and Things that Go Bump in the Night.
We know the things that prowl the shadows, the monsters that feed on the innocent.
    We have seen Something Weird.
    We control Something Weird
    We create Something Weird.
    We study Something Weird.
We are the things that Weird Things fear.
    We are the Weird.
We are the Night Shift, and we are all that stands between you and the end of all that you know."

'Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg' by Jason Vey & Timothy Brannan is one of those OSR games that quietly always finds its way back into my hands especially for designing modern OSR adventures.

DM Steve & myself find ourselves looking at several OSR monster options for our on going campaign. One of those OSR lights that we're currently looking at is Rafael Chandler especially Lusus Naturae & the Chapel Wights who fit the asthetic of the on going campaign.

The PC's have crossed swords with a butcher priest & things went down hill from there. This week sees the PC's starting in on the dungeon of Ben Laurence's 'Through Ultan's Door' issue number two. The PC's have dealt with the weirdness of the  Dreamlands.

"Through Ultan's door in this second issue into the Catacombs of the Fleishcguild, a 31 room dungeon for a party of 3-5 characters of 2-3 levels in Advanced Labyrinth Lord or any older edition of D&D. The Catacombs are replete with the fiendish traps of butcher priests, blood demons, muscle jellies, flayed heretics, and much more. This 36 page zine also has articles on house rules for playing in slumberland, on the undead of Wishery, and ib new spells and magic items."

The Fleishcguild, are major NPC faction  within the ongoing campaign. The PC's last week dealt with a traveling saleman NPC being killed by a muscle jelly. And they found Fleishcguild gear within said traveling saleman  NPC's apartment.

And they found a strange arcane design under the bed of the traveling salesman. This design was a gateway into  the Catacombs of the Fleishcguild. But this section of the Dreamland was a perfect spot to add in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Fiend Folio monsters into the mix.

This area is full of ruins & underground areas infected with blind helms & worse. The question is while the PC's are dealing with the dungeon could monsters make their way back across the planar threshold? Ancient OSR theorists say yes!

OSR Commentary - Weird Tales Judges Guild Wilderlands of High Fantasy - Witch Court Marshes By Bryan Hinnen & 'The Black Moss Hag of Lug'

"Between the sun's departure and return, the Silver Death had fallen upon Yoros. Its advent, however, had been foretold in many prophecies, both immemorial and recent. Astrologers had said that this mysterious malady, heretofore unknown on earth, would descend from the great star, Achernar, which presided balefully over all the lands of the southern continent of Zothique; and having sealed the flesh of a myriad men with its bright, metallic pallor, the plague would still go onward in time and space, borne by the dim currents of ether to other worlds."

    The Isle of the Torturers

    Clark Ashton Smith

So hoping everyone is having a happy holiday & readers are having a happy Easter with their families. Never one to sit on our laurels last night was a very producutive phone call with my fellow DM's. We started talking about the recent Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea bundle of Holding.
All of us got in on the action because it benefits St.Judes. We've been getting a Hell of a lot of Sword & Sorcery mileage out of this lately at the table top. And we've been talking about running Judges Guilds Wilderlands of High Fantasy with AS&SH. This has been a very popular topic here on the blog as well. But what happens when we revisit the beginning adventure in AS&SH

So let's dive back into the fact that there may be a Hell of a lot more going on below the surface in AS&SH's beginning adventure  'The Black Moss Hag of  Lug'?! What the Hell are you guys talking about the adventure is based on the Robert E. Howard Story 'The Worms of the Earth'?! The adventure background concerns the Roman Ninth Legion that disappeared into the planar ether & arrived on Hyperborea.

Now there's no secrets there but the Moss Hag herself is highly knowledgable about the goings on within that old copper mine at the heart of the adventure. And what if she doesn't give up all of her secrets easily?! What if our moss hag was actually a part of an ancient coven on the Wilderlands?! What?! That was DM Steves reaction last night. What if the moss hag was actually a member of the Witches Court that gathers within  Judges Guild 'The Witches of Court Marshes' by  Bryan Hinnen module; "The fifth book in the "Wilderness Series", danger awaits on All Hallow's Eve, Witches of the world are gathering en masse, the peasants of the area are going to leave, unless you can stop the wicked Black Mass.  26-pages of maps detail the area around the Witches Court Marshes and the village of Grita Heath.  Complete description of the Witch character class.  Many witch NPCs are detailed.  Three level lair of Mordridda Dungeon under the Marshes contains fabulous wealth and dangerous adventure."

Now this module doesn't fit the City State of the Invincible Overlord series of JG's modules why?! T
he area is one in which the City State army hosts battle and skirmish. Well that's easily explained. The area in question is used by the army part of the time & there are 'accidents' that happen to army trainees that serve as sacrifices for the witches. The army is complete unaware of the area's evil reputation or don't care. The nexus gate way only opens when the Witches Court gathers on all Hallow's Eve when all four thousand of the witches of the Wilderlands gather. What is a nexus gateway!?
Nexus gate is a  a huge area of trans-dimensional flux, and gates from many different worlds touch the Wilderlands . It is these very Gates that caused the long conflict known as the Nexus Wars. Wait so why haven't these witches overrun Hyperborea?! The answer is that the gatway hasn't been in use since the Silv erm Green Death plague wiped out most of  Lug's population. Quite frankly the Witch Court priestess has stood on guard for centuries in Lug. She continues to do so even up to the events 'The Black Moss Hag of  Lug'. A few witches make the crossing from the Wilderlands of High Fantasy into Hyperborea. But their not looking to conquer Hyperborea only spread their corruption & maintain their shrines upon the cold icy land.
But this isn't the only point that the alien gate ways open unto. The fallen godess Terpsichore, Greek muse and patroness of dancers is also a supporter of the numerous  witch covens of the Witch Court. We're talking about using  Lamentations of the Flame Princess Rpg adventure  Rafael Chandler's No Salvation For Witches here.  An adventure whose events might let loose hordes of randomly generated  demons upon Hyperborea's Lug region. This makes the area around Lug prime for a knightly purge. Clerics & paladins of Mitra might have to bring the light of their god shining to the dark corners of Hyperborea.
Revisiting Lug during certain times of the year could potentially be very dangerous. Those making the crossing into the Witches Court of the Wilderlands don't comeback at all.

The Metal Moorcockian Con Job - Agenda of the Faceless Lord - Sword & Sorcery Observations On NeoPlastic Press's 'The Metallic Tome ' By Rafael Chandler

"Juiblex is deemed a lesser figure in abyssal hierarchy, judged Lord of Nothing by his peers. However, in my research, I have plumbed the foul mire to examine the full darkness that is this disturbing fiend.

    — Demonomicon of Iggwilv

If there are heavy metal & death metal bands of adventurers roaming the wastelands raiding dungeons what happened?!  The big three Abyssial powers of the demonic lords Orcus, Juiblex, & Demongorgon are vying for worshipers, pacts, cults, & having demonic warfare with each other through proxie agents the world as we know it is going to be a mess. After having used The Metallic Tome now for several months for actual play what would a metal band of Juiblex even look like?! Could such a band of adventurers or agents of demonic power actually thrive in such an environment?!  Those sons & daughters of Juiblex are going to bear the mutations of oozes, slimesjellies, puddings, and amorphous creatures.

Covid really has taken its toll on a lot of my OSR rpg efforts including pursuing a bit of writing I've been doing when it comes to messing with  Castles & Crusades Tome of the Unclean & The Demonic Tome by Rafael Chandler.

So is Castles & Crusades a good fit for an rpg system for both  The Demonic Tome by Rafael Chandler &  The Metallic Tome?! Ultimately I think so. The scions of  Juiblex are ultimately rewarded by being turned into some of the more intelligent slimes, jellies, and oozes such as the slithering tracker.
The slithering tracker knows & understands languages, it possesses an alien intelligence, & it has a demonic nature about it; "The ritual required the target to be willing and to be motivated by revenge. In the ritual, all the moisture from the target's body was drained, but their mind still lived on in it. Some considered this ritual a dubious origin for the slithering trackers, instead proposing the alternate theory that they were merely an advanced form of other oozes."

Its implied to once been human but having left its humanity far behind ages ago in service to the 'faceless lord'. The heavy metal music of Juiblex is alien, demonic, & highly dangerous to the sanity of the world.

But how did the world come to this?! For that we dive into Dread: The First Book of Pandemonium rpg & a review of that game which reveals the events of  Sunday May 13 in Haywood, Oklahoma; "This change occurred on the night of Sunday May 13 in Haywood, Oklahoma. They went to bed that night. The next morning the entire population was dead. Slaughtered or suicide. Some of the deaths were extremely gruesome. Suspicion began with some type of gas attack by terrorists, but no evidence could be found to support this. It was inconceivable…until it happened again. At various locations around the world, the scene repeated itself. Since then, unexplained disappearances and phenomena have increased, as has seemingly pointless violence.

Characters have suffered tragedy before the game begins. Through circumstances beyond their control (or not beyond their control), they have reached the nadir of their lives. Things couldn’t be much worse, until something not of this world tried to kill them, or something unexplainable happened, and someone was there to save them. To take them in and bring them back. A Mentor to train them and give them purpose again. The Mentor made them part of a group with other Disciples like themselves, called a Cabal. The Mentor also explained the truth of May 13; that on that night the barriers between Earth and Hell dropped briefly. The same occurred later in other locations, releasing an unknown number of Demons into the world."

That game was the basis for the Demonic Tome's setting & background both are written by Mr.Chandler.  But what does it tell us about the alien agenda of Juiblex itself?! Quite a bit, we know its going to be going all out to foil the plans of its rival demon lords, this thing is a full on lord of chaos, & given its Abyssial nature there is no hiding its Chaotic orgins. This faceless demon lord  is also a part of the Tharzidun meaning that it has reason to smite the angels of this Earth at every turn; 'Juiblex's true origin was unknown, although there were many theories about where the Indescribable Darkness originally came from. At earliest, he was one of the original tanar'ri, somewhere around the age of Demogorgon, but many posited that he was far older than that.[29] The obyrith lords Dagon and Pazuzu suspected that Juiblex was himself an obyrith lord who was mostly destroyed by Tharzidun, gradually declining in importance until eventually becoming an ancient relic of the past.[4] Some cited the presence of certain obyriths on Juiblex's plane as a sign that he came before the tanar'ri, although this wasn't concrete evidence.[30]

According to the research of some, Juiblex was originally just part of the Elemental Chaos, part of its raw essence until the appearance of Tharzidun. When Tharzidun first planted the seed of evil, it wounded the Elemental Chaos, and at the direct site of the wound was the first mass of infection, a black, bilious collection of fluids and solids awakened to wicked self-awareness."

Cultists among humans are going to be the worst examples of humanity & any pustules or covens of Juiblex worshipers are obliterated by both Control or Angels when found;"His worst worshipers tried desperately to earn his attention, spreading terror, despair and death in the hopes of appealing to Juiblex.[3][25] The madness of Juiblex's wretched supplicants was often rooted in desperation born from sickness, physical or otherwise, terrible afflictions that brought their victims such pain that they were willing to turn to the Demon Prince of Ooze.[4][25] After reaching the heights of depression, the deluded madmen, often humans, turned to the Glistener in the hopes that he could cure them or, failing that, ruin their minds so that the pain would be bearable."

Any concerts or gatherings of bands of metal heads dedicated to the Demon Prince of Ooze are often nothing more then sacrifice events where the entire audience is turned into or infected with slimes. These events are often held underground or in abandoned sections of sewers. The bands in question are often sought by vigilante adventurer posses that seek them out to eradicate them. In the wastelands of the Metal Future these are often good paying adventuring gigs. The faceless lord is one of the most hated entities on any plane Prime.
There are temples rumored to be in Texas, California, the Mexican pan handle, Flordia, and other Southern areas of the United States. The faceless prince likes the hot climates & area of the United States's jungles & fetid swamps of the South American pan handles.
