Marvel Super Heroes Advanced rpg session Using "The Marvel Vampires Unofficial Canon Project..." Rpg supplement - Harder To Kill Then Roaches Mini One Shot

Tonight we ventured down the classic Marvel Super Heroes Advanced rpg with a full on Halloween adventure one shot! Our mission?! Save Jack Russell The Werewolf By Night from a group of undergound vault dwelling vampire cultists headed by a Dark Sorcerer named Thomas Payne!

This mini one shot started out with me thumbing through 'The Marvel Vampires The Unofficial Canon Project' rpg supplement and the thought about where would vampires actually hide out in Marvel comics New York City?! The answer is easily the Morlock tunnels left over from the mutant massacre back in the Eighties.
The question is however where did those tunnels come from in the first place?! The answer of course is the US government used them & then they were 'abandoned'. Actually earsed off the books by government insiders. The Morlock tunnels lead deeply into Subterranea's vaults! You can find the Marvel Vampires The Unofficial Canon Project supplement right here.  And you can also find the M6 Werewolf by Night for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG here.  Note that I've reviewed both of these supplements here on this blog.

So a vampire cult led by a maniac black magician picked up on this fact. The enabled me too connect the Morlock tunnels with Subterranea by Johnathan Nolan.  Jack Russell aka the Werewolf by Night has been on the trail of these vampires and got himself captured by them. Now they plan to drain him dry!

So it was up to our group of Marvel supers to go and save him. First we armed ourselves with day light grenades, stakes, wood swords and more! We've faced vampires in their elements and the results were not pretty! The first thing we had to do was stake the vampire guards set at the Morlock tunnel doors and getting to the Morlock tunnels wasn't easy!
We had to deal with Morlock drug dealers, mole people, and a couple of monsters even before we got to the remains of the Morlock tunnels. We ended here as the weather outside started to pick up!

OSR Commentary On MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn For The TSR Marvel Super Heroes Rpg

When it comes to play around with Alternative Histories & worlds of 'What If'.  MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn is an excellent resource book to use as a basis for such an adventure or campaign. This source book marks campaign setting period as the end of World War II up through the exploitive Seventies. The appearance of the Fantastic Four 1961 marks the beginning of the modern

We get a boat load of various pre Avenger's Intiative teams & looks into Marvel Plastic era teams like the 'Monster Hunters'. And then we get the mover & shakers of the Marvel comics universe with characters like the original Colonal Nick Fury, The Agents of Atlas, The 70's Avengers, The First Line, & even pre Fantastic Four solo heroes. All of this adds to the fact that this all takes place long before the appearance of the Fantastic Four.

MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn creates a solid foundation of Marvel Super Heroes rpg & Marvel Super Heroes Advanced rpg campaign setting for the player's PC's to make a mark. 'What if'' it never went away?!  'The Silver Age' is the age of the Blue Marvel and the power houses of the Marvel universe haven't even appeared, yet.
There are millions of 'What if' Marvel universes and the age of the Blue Marvel may have occurred & never went away?! What would this mean for PC's?! A whole new universe to adventure in where things are slightly tilted!

Adventures With MA7 'The unofficial canon project' The Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book For Marvel Super Heroes Rpg - Session Report

MA7 The Marvel Super Heroes Rpg: the Unofficial Canon Projects Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book is the primary resource for my buddy DM Peter's World War II campaign. DM Paul relies on   the Marvel Super Heroes Rpg: the Unofficial Canon Projects.

We were hired by the Dark Angel 1935-1950 to recover Percy Von Horton who was brainwashed and coverted over to the Super Axis. Our 1930-1955 team of heroes The Red Line has been tasked with this & the Von Horton family.

The Battle Axis's agents fed  Percy Von Horton  a variation of the super soldier formula through agents.  Which has the unintended side effect of lowering the intellect of the user. Percy stopped using his yoga secrets & came too rely on the formula. He also came under the influence of Lady Lotus & she twisted his mind into the Super Axis.

Currently we're on the track of the Super Axis in the United States out in the South Western United States. We think that Axis are out to damage the resource infrastructure of the US. We've got a safe house out in Arizona and we're flying there now.

Mayhem & Terror By Death Battalion - Marvel Super Heroes Rpg The Golden Age Campaign - Session Report Four

The PC's had a ton of paperwork to take care of with thier time with  FBI agent Clemants. This session picks up right where the last one here left off.  The PC's were on the track of the Death Battalion and our psychic Claire Voyant ( Claire is a clone  created by Mr.Sinister.) Came face to face with the Black Clown & she only got a few seconds of insight before a noose was around her neck.

The Black Clown twisted into a low vent near the appartment of Claire. The Clown is actually a lot more competent then his DC Heroes profile indicates. This is because is because a Gestapo agent has taken over Black Clown identity. And the second the PC's saw him there were seven throwing daggers flying thier way.
And next was a grenade to cover the Clown's tracks. The Black Clown covered his tracks with razor blade sharp caltrops. And so after telling the police about the caltrops.
The PC's came face to face with ten goons belonging to the Laughing Skull. These are actually Nazi soldiers disguised as normal citizens. Claire Voyant had a score to settle with the Black Clown but got dragged into the melee with the Laughing Skull's goons. This allowed the Black Clown to escape.
While the heroes were distracted 'The Ghost' Jans Greller SS soldier/agent with the fear power  was able to get near the New York City mayor's special council on international trade. Our version of the Black Bat was ready for him because he was disguised as Mr.Collins the special council. Being blind made our Black Bat immune to 'The Ghost's' powers. The Ghost was trounced and arrested.

We tracked the Clown to a local warehouse which was rigged with explosives and chemicals again the work of the Black Clown. The Clown was becoming a rather nasty customer when our Monster got hit with the 'mummy ray' of the Thorn. We didn't know whose behind the identity but this version of the Death Battlion plays for keeps. We retreated to deal with 'the Monster' down.
A couple of details we've noticed about DM Steve's game. The Death Battlion has been run like a terrorist cell then a group of super villains. We found three or four corpses which we left for the cops. We've got to back track these victims to see if there's a pattern ( there is ) and then go from there!

Murders By The Death Battlition - Marvel Super Heroes Rpg The Golden Age Campaign - Session Report Three

This session report picks up right from the last grit and gritty session here. We'd found the dead cop's corpse last session. And we waited on the medical examiner's report with every drop of liquid pulled from the corpse.

We were on the trail of the asssasin who had been smuggled into the United States by the Circus of Death last session. What we didn't know was that the Death Battalion from the Public Domain Super Heroes Wiki  was on our case;
"The Death Battalion was a team of criminals and fifth columnists dedicated to the destruction of the United States. It was founded by The Brain, and comprised of six deadly super criminals that The Brain helped free from "El Catraz" Penitentiary. In addition to The Brain, the team included The Horned Hood, The Black Thorn, The Black Clown, The Laughing Skull, Dr. Death (2) and Ghost (Fawcett). The team was ultimately defeated when The Brain and several other members were captured by Mr. Scarlet and Pinky. The team had been successful in assassinating several prominent American officials." As far as we knew the Death Battlion has been busted in 1941 and yet we found evidence last session that  The Black Thorn back in action?!

The orginal Death Battlion was still incarcarated as far as we knew?! Now all of this centered around the original Brain. The brain's mask is actually a psionic power blocker centered around some pseudo Science gimmicky. The player's started breaking this down, a convienant group of super villains who appear outta of no where?! What's the angle?!

What if these super villains are actually highly trained Nazi sabatours & fifth columnists with a set of rotating Nazi officiers and SS agents who are taking on the roles?! The American public blames the Death Battlion & the Nazi infiltrate deeper into America. The Brain's profile on Write up.org has a run down on these 'nobody villains'.These were the next incarnation of the villain identities & were to sew the most panic and fear that they can in the populice.

  • The Thorn.
  • The Black Clown.
  • The Laughing Skull.
  • Doctor Death.
  • The Ghost.
  • The Horned Hood.
Now for the Golden Age of Heroes campaign each of these guys would have SS officier's stats from MA7. They have the gimmicks of the villains but also access to Nazi equipment including guns, explosives, etc. everything that fifth columnist needs.
We know that the The Thorn has skirted the Gothem section of New York City and is on the outskirts having no motive to tangle with Batman or Robin. The Thorn is also too small fry for Captain America or any of his operatives. So we're on the case. We're busting a small nazi safehouse on the lower Eastside of the city. When we got to the small town house we discovered the corpses of three people the handy work of The Thorn. And there were Nazi agents waiting for us and it got brutal. We took out four of the agents and called in the cops. And then we ran into FBI agent Clemants whose a real prick and then it was lots of paperwork.

The Curtain Comes Down on The Circus of Death - Marvel Super Heroes Rpg The Golden Age Campaign - Session Report Two

Our heroes in thier last adventure has been captured by the 'Circus of Death' and though mind controlled has found out the extent of the smuggling operation of the circus. The fact that the 'Circus of Death' has been offering support on American soil to the various Nazi super villain groups through the American Bund. I got a chance to play instead of being behind the screen here's how it went!

The real problem the PC's learned a bout is the fact that the Nazi smuggled in a super human assassin onto American soil. Several good dice rolls and one of the PC's was able to break away from the mental control of the Ringmaster. Jack Kirby Ring Master artwork!

This a slight modification of Marvel Super Heroes The Golden Age by Keith Kilburn supplement by the Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project.

The Marvel Super Heroes The Golden Age is available in the group's file section in the Facebook group. The circus was padded out with Nazi soldiers who were disguised as circus workers. And came face to face with   the  Missing Link who had primate-like features, midget Tommy Thumb; snake charmer Omar; strongman Zandow, and the Trapeze Trio. Little did the PC's realize that the circus was more then simply a 'murder circus' but was training and distributing sabatours or fifth columnists  throughout it's travels in America. After about two hours of cat and mouse the players were able to take down some of the circus's operatives. The Ringmaster escaped though! Now the players are on the hunt for the Ring Master and have alerted Commisoner Gordon in New York City's Gotham buro. The most dangerous escapee isn't the Ring Master but Herr Hans Sims. Sims is actually an agent of the newly formed Hydra & priorty one on the hit parade. The PC's feel that Hydra might be behind some of the funding that the circus has been receiving. And they might also be behind the super human assassin that's been smuggled into New York/Gotham.
The circus itself is for the moment finished as police and the local authorities clean up the network of the circus. So there was plenty of paperwork to do & reports to be made as well as a debriefing.
And that's when we found the first corpse shrivelled of a police officier completely mummified. The officier had been killed because he got in the way. Now the heroes are on the trail. We'll pick up next week!

At The Mercy of The Ringmaster & The Circus of Death - Marvel Super Heroes Rpg The Golden Age Campaign - Session Report One

Last week I got hte chance to sit in and play in DM Steve's Marvel Super Heroes Advanced Rpg Golden Age of Heroes rpg campaign. This week I got a chance to play in his World War II game that takes place around 1941. In this campaign the Nazi have moved far more swiftly then they did in the real world. This dragged the US into the World War II sooner. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor because of the fact that the opportunity presented itself.

Our party of enhanced masks got involved with an assignment from the Golden Age Batman( yes, our campaign mixes WWII DC comics and Marvel properties) about a series of high level pentagon murders of Army personel. We only found the constant being the fact that the Tiboldt circus was in all of the places where the various generals and army personel were murdered. An investigation by our party revealed that the Tiboldt Circus was heavily involved in hiring former criminals into it's ranks. And it turns out that the Circus had deep connections to the American Bundt who were helping to fund part of the circus. The PC's also found out that each of the operatives of the circus had extensive criminal records and ties to Nazi Germany. An investigation of the circus revealed that the circus had the  Missing Link who had primate-like features, midget Tommy Thumb; snake charmer Omar; strongman Zandow, and the Trapeze Trio. And then there's the fact that the Ring Master Fritz Tiboldt was using a variation of Batman's foe 'Mad Hatter''s technology that had been transformed by Nazi Germany.

The Ringmaster had both the mind control technology and an electrified whip. And this was a bit unexpected for the PC's. They were captured by the circus and made into mind controlled slaves. Will the player's PC's escape from the circus's facilities?
This a slight modification of Marvel Super Heroes The Golden Age by Keith Kilburn supplement by the
Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project.
The Marvel Super Heroes The Golden Age is available in the group's file section in the Facebook group.
The players weren't expecting the mind control aspect of the Ringmaster. But this wasn't the first time that the PC's have faced the Circus Death. They appear on page 251 of The Marvel Super Heroes Golden Age book sans the mind control technology.

OSR Review & Commentary On MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn For The TSR Marvel Super Heroes Rpg

Given the amount of BS going on with Cowards of the Coast, I've decided to keep my head down & get back to our Marvel Super Heroes rpg campaign. And thanks to the Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project Facebook group. We're moving forward with the next wrinkle of the campaign. We're moving from MA7 To MA6 which is MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn. This sourcebook is available in both the Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project Facebook group files section or the group's G drive under the file heading 'MA Accessories' with the title MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn.

So what does  MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn bring to the table?
MA6 brings the heroes from the end of World World II straight into the Exploitive Seventies.
Everything within the pages of the MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook has the same attention to detail, beautiful layout, and everything we've come to expect from The Unofficial Canon Project Facebook group various supplements from this group. And especially the design & development work of Keith Kilburn.

So what's all this mean for our own heroes of New Ashford?! It means that they've time jumped ahead ten years into the Fifties & there are very few answers. The Tall man is still wrecking havoc on small towns across America. And the old familar faces of enemies & colhorts are still there. But this is a very different world that they've been thrown into.

And for the supernatural Marvel heroes the rush of the tide is on. During the Fifties there was an alien invasion on & this has dire consquences for the supernatural as well as the heroic community. It's not only the heroes who get the treatment in MA6. There are a ton of solo & minor operators in this supplement.

And there's more such as the rise of the Deviants & thier horrors stirring across the world. And that's one of the in's that we've got here for our own brand of heroes. Terrrors & things that move through the cracks have to be handled by someone. And not everything is going to be handled by the Avengers 1959 or the Monster Hunters. The Shadows are extremely long lived & our group wants to handle some of the supernatural threats lurking in the long shadows or forgotten places.

MA6 The Silver Age Sourcebook by Keith A. Kilburn is a solid addition to the Marvel Superheroes rpg fanon. And does an excellent job of handling the period of the end of the World War II Golden Age of Heroes & the first appearance of the Fantastic Four.  Grab this one if you can.

OSR Reviews & Commentary On MA11 The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project

So after last night's game we started hashing out our Marvel Super Heroes Rpg campaign. And one of the guys was joking about Marvel vampires. Let me start out by saying that Marvel/Atlas comics vampires are no joke. Ever since Tomb of Dracula redefined vampires in Marvel comics things haven't been the same.  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project helps to expand upon this trend. Clocking in at one hundred & sixty six pages. I had a local printer do colour exterior title pages, a plastic sleeve front & back, & a spiral binding. This ran me around the twenty seven dollar mark with inflation paper prices. The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project is available for free when you join the  The Unofficial Cannon Project Facebook group here.   MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project  is listed under MA Accessories in the groups Google Drive.

The black & white interior artwork still looks amazing & MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project lays flat on the table top during game play.

The MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires is really a love letter to the Marvel vampire as both character & monster. For a World War II DM like myself the obvious candiate for me getting this book has to be Baron Blood. Sure he's been covered numerous time in other Marvel Super Heroes but getting into the bloody meat of the various Baron Blood & Baroness Bloods is essential. MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires doesn't just cover the usual blood suckers & suck heads, it covers mutants such as Selene & other creatures of the Marvel universe that mimic vampires.

The layout, spacing, and even the placement of the artwork emulates the old TSR Marvel Super Heroes rpg products as both homage & convience for the DM. It hits all of the right combination of buttons for both the nostalgia point of view and the actual use of the vampires in Marvel Super Heroes rpg games. There's also the surprising insertion of other vampire themed characters such as the classic Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane! This is perfect for Marvel Super Heroes Sword & Sorcery or Horror themed campaigns!  And yes Chris, Blade's stats are included & have been updated within MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires.

There's also the inclusion of the movers & shaker events of the Marvel comic books over the past 30 plus years.  MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires does a very good job of hitting almost all of the high points through out this tome!
And there's the fact there's the inclusion of several of the lesser known species & monsterous types of vampire including Lilith her projeny, and other dangerous vampires!

Is MA11  The Unofficial Marvel Super Heroes Rpg Marvel Vampires By The Unofficial Cannon Project  worth the download?! In a word?! Oh yes if your a fan of the Marvel Super Heroes rpg & you wanna run a horror themed campaign with vampires within it?! Yes this is an essential MSH supplement for such a campaign.

The Latest Project ' The Unofficial Canon Project... Marvel Vampires' & M6 Werewolf by Night for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG!!!

"From the horrific talents of Louis Danhoff comes the latest release of 'the Unofficial Canon Project... Marvel Vampires" & M6 Werewolf by Night for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG!!!. Both of these came out fantastic & these are super well done by the Marvel Super Heroes RPG! How are these useful for a pre WWII rpg campaign?! Oh they most certainly are! We've got lots of Marvel Bronze age & beyond background here with deep dives into powers, abilities, and major NPC's of Tomb of Dracula & Werewolf by Night comic book series. Be sure to join the fantastic Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project Facebook group to take avantage of all the marvelous projects that they have there

Given the amount of background, powers, and more on these creatures of the night there's more then enough information to bring not only members of the Russell family & the Drac pack into your Marvel Super Hereos rpg games. These two sourcebooks go over the top with lots of horror done in the Marvel Super Heroes vein. Each of the entries goes deep into lore, powers, abilities and more perfect for dropping into your on going MSH's campaigns. The layout & cartography is easy on these old eyes & the attention to detail should satisfy even the pickiest of MSH players.

Everything within the  'the Unofficial Canon Project... Marvel Vampires" & M6 Werewolf by Night for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG is keyed for actual campaign play from the ground up in the Marvel rpg spirit. The M6 Werewolf By Night is especially good for street level MSH adventures & campaigns with more then a brush with the supernatural is called for. The 'the Unofficial Canon Project... Marvel Vampires" source book should be used with caution because of the nature of vampires in Marvel comics. These creatures of the night have a tendency to overwhelm campaigns with their presence unless this is the focus for such a campagin.

For Bronze age comicbook & MSH fans these two sourcebooks are a no brain to have. They cover their respective subjects very well & for a World War II campaign with a foucs on different aspects of the supernatural they ace it for sure.

You can grab ' The Unofficial Canon Project... Marvel Vampires' & M6 Werewolf by Night for the Marvel Super Heroes RPG!!! From Here.  After joining the Marvel Super Heroes RPG: The Unofficial Canon Project

Review & Commentary On 'The unofficial canon project' The Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book For Marvel Super Heroes Rpg

So just today I finally picked up the second set of purchases that I had done which was  the Marvel Super Heroes Rpg: the Unofficial Canon Projects Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book. This is a huge fan supplement for the Golden Age of WWII Marvel comic super heroes rpg clocking in at over three hundred pages of old school Marvel comics goodness. And they are not afraid to get into the nitty gritty or the  soft underbelly of the Marvel  WWII. So basically I had  the Marvel Super Heroes Rpg: the Unofficial Canon Projects Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book printed out, spiral bound, with a colour cover & black/white interior.  Not only do you have the usual Captain America, Bucky Barnes, classic Namor, but this book dives into the unusual characters & NPC's who played hard ball with the heroes of the Sixties later on.

We've got the classic 70's Invaders 1975-1980 is represented here and we've got every Nazi scum that appeared in Marvel from the 1940's right on through the later '00's. Even in B/W the artwork is on point & the descriptions are solidly done as well as useful.

Everything in the Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes feels like it might have rolled off the presses at classic late Eighties TSR. And not only does the homefront get this feel so do the Marvel European hero teams of WWII. And this follows with battles, appearances, etc. of the timeline of World War II. And because this is a fan production there's a lot of heart in this one. Because I'm planning on running a classic supers campaign coming up.

Profiles are done with an eye towards classic Golden Age World War II comicbook timelines that date all the way back to the Seventies. The Marvel Super Heroes Golden Age of Hereos book does a good job of  trying to  keep the 90's & 00's WWII events within Marvel (haha) comicbook continuity. And there's even alternative Earths within the appendix that can be used as alternative campaigns. The whole package is a love letter to classic Golden Age & Bronze age Marvel War comics that we all grew up with & is perfectly suited for those who want to start a campaign in World War II.  You can grab a copy of the The Marvel Super Hereos rpg Golden Age of Heroes book after joining 'The unofficial canon project' The Marvel Super Hereos on Facebook. And it is in my humble opinion well worth the download.
