The Oakhaven Chronicle - "The Lavender Hour," Encounter - Wretched Darkness/Invisible College Rpg campaign - Session Report One

To kick off our  Wretched Darkness/Invisible College Rpg  campaign, we need to immediately establish that the city’s normalcy is a thin, rotting veil. We pulled into Oakhaven Pennsylvania and got out at the Rusty Nail Diner. Things were off right off the bat.

The following encounter, "The Lavender Hour," is designed to bring your players together through a shared, inexplicable trauma.

The Setup: Midnight at the 'Rusty Nail' Diner

The players are all at a 24-hour diner in The Lows. It’s raining—a greasy, chemical rain.

  • The Atmosphere: The jukebox is playing a distorted country track. The only other patrons are a tired trucker and a waitress named Barb who has been "quitting" for twelve years.

  • The Catalyst: At exactly 12:12 AM, every electronic device in the diner (the TV over the bar, the digital register, and the players' phones) emits a low-frequency hum.

Phase 1: The Violet Flicker

The screens don't go black; they turn a deep, vibrating Violet.

  • The Mechanic: Have everyone roll a Willpower or Sanity check (depending on your specific Wretched Darkness house rules).

  • Success: They feel a sharp, metallic tang in their mouths and a sense of impending doom.

  • Failure: They are momentarily stunned, seeing "after-images" of a tall, thin figure standing behind them in the reflection of the diner windows.

Phase 2: The Sleepwalkers

The trucker and Barb the waitress don't scream. Their eyes go glassy. In perfect unison, they stand up, leave their half-eaten food, and walk toward the door. Outside, the street is eerily silent, but figures are emerging from the row houses—dozens of people, all walking with a stiff, rhythmic gait toward the Oakhaven Reservoir.

Phase 3: The "Quality Control"

A black Oakhaven Police cruiser (The Silver Tally) pulls into the diner lot. Two officers get out. They aren't helping the "sleepwalkers"—they are carrying heavy-duty cattle prods and plastic zip-ties.

One officer looks into the diner and sees the players standing there, still conscious. He keys his radio:

"Unit 4 to Central. We have 'Static.' Four individuals in the Lows diner are resisting the signal. Moving to decommission."

The Encounter: Combat/Escape

The players are now trapped between the Silver Tally officers (who want to "scrub" them) and the Sleepwalkers (who will mindlessly trample anyone in their path).

EnemyStats / Behavior
Silver Tally Officers (2)Armed with batons and heavy pistols. They move with clinical, terrifying efficiency. They don't talk; they just breathe heavily through their masks.
The Sleepwalker MobNot aggressive, but a "Hazard." Every turn, the players must stay clear of the crowd or be dragged along 20ft toward the Reservoir (Strength check to break free).

The Twist

As the fight escalates, one of the sleepwalkers—a young girl—stops. Her jaw unhinges further than humanly possible, and the Violet Light pours out of her mouth like smoke. She points a trembling finger at one of the players and whispers:

"The Master is hungry for the parts that still remember."

The Aftermath

The officers will retreat if they take significant damage, melting back into the rain. The "Lavender Hour" ends as abruptly as it began; the screens return to normal, and the sleepwalkers collapse in the street, waking up seconds later with no memory of the last ten minutes.

The hook is set: The players are now "Static"—people who can see the truth in a city designed to keep them blind. We ended here.

To capture the "slow-burn" dread of Oakhaven, use this table when the players are exploring, resting, or just walking between districts. These range from eerie atmosphere to immediate hooks.

D100: Something is Off in Oakhaven

D100The Observation
01-05The Mirror Lag: Your reflection in a shop window moves a fraction of a second slower than you do.
06-10Wrong Geometry: You turn three lefts in The Lows, but instead of returning to your start, you find yourself at a dead-end alley that wasn't there before.
11-15The Static Child: A child sits on a swing set. When they turn to look at you, their face is blurred like a low-resolution video.
16-20Sweet Decay: The smell of expensive perfume suddenly fills the air, masking the overwhelming scent of rotting meat.
21-25Radio Ghost: Your phone picks up a voicemail. It’s a recording of the conversation you are currently having, played back with a 30-second delay.
26-30The Missing Birds: You realize there are no pigeons or crows in this district—only thousands of moths clinging to the underside of every ledge.
31-35The Tally Mark: You find a fresh "X" carved into your hotel room door. It’s still bleeding sap.
36-40Gravity Hiccup: For three seconds, rain falls upward. No one else on the street seems to notice.
41-45The Man in Yellow: You see a man in a yellow slicker across the street. When a bus passes between you, he is gone, but a yellow balloon is tied to a nearby pole.
46-50Familiar Strangers: Every person you pass on the sidewalk for the next block has the exact same shade of pale blue eyes.
51-55The Meat Hum: A low-frequency vibration shakes your teeth. It’s coming from the "Good Meat" Deli's refrigeration unit.
56-60Ink Blood: You scrape your knuckle. The blood that comes out is thick, black, and smells like ozone. It turns red after a minute.
61-65The Billboard: A digital billboard glitching to violet shows a "Missing Person" poster. The photo is of you, but aged 20 years.
66-70The Shadow Anchor: Your shadow points toward the Reservoir, regardless of where the sun or streetlights are.
71-75Muffled Screams: You hear a muffled scream for help coming from a manhole cover. When you look closer, the sound changes to a cat's meow.
76-80The Watchers: Every cat in the alley stops what it’s doing and stares at you in perfect, eerie silence until you leave the area.
81-85The Taste of Copper: Your mouth fills with the taste of pennies. A Silver Tally cruiser slowly rolls by, the officer inside not turning his head.
86-90Architecture Shift: You notice a gargoyle on Saint Jude’s Hospital. Every time you blink, it has moved its hands closer to its eyes.
91-95The Paper Trail: A gust of wind blows a newspaper against your leg. The date on the paper is tomorrow. The headline describes a fire at your current location.
96-99The Doorway to Nowhere: You see a door standing alone in a vacant lot. If you look through the keyhole, you see a vast, violet-lit ocean.
100The Full Reveal: For one heartbeat, the "veil" drops. The sky is gone, replaced by a massive, lidless eye, and the buildings are made of calcified bone. Then, everything returns to normal.

Using the Table

  • Subtle Clues: Use 01-30 to build tension without immediate danger.

  • Direct Threats: Use 70-95 to signal that the Silver Tally or the Entities are closing in.

  • Sanity Checks: Any result over 90 should probably trigger a minor Sanity/Stress check.

Amazing Adventures Rpg and The Battle Arena of Mr. Millennium By Mark Taormino - Session Report Two

'America's favorite wrestling champion has turned evil and declared himself the supreme ruler of the new world! He has established an ancient fortified wrestling arena and broadcast TV studio showcasing his Battle Royale where the winners will receive riches beyond their wildest desires and the defeated face death. Furthermore, he wields a sinister technology capable of mind control, using it to broadcast manipulative signals during the matches via his hypnotic theme song. '

These broadcasts transform unsuspecting viewers into contestants and devout followers, expanding his tyrannical empire. A brave group of heroes is needed to answer his challenge, infiltrate the deadly games, destroy the source of the broadcasts freeing the captives and finally confront him and his wicked wrestling minions to end this reign of terror once and for all in the Battle Arena of Mr. Millennium!'

We left Oaken Leaf at the healer's outpost and then moved into the deeper post apocalyptic urban landscape. And this urban landscape this is when we saw the battle arena of Mr. Millennium. This  dominated the entire surrounding area with giant holograms of the warriors and wrestling action. There were 'fanatics' and audience members lined up around the block. There were a few dust ups but our Dwarven fighter Hanic Odinson took out a few of the humans with a few moves followed by the Manhattan Mauler doing his best to break up the violence.
We broke away as the two masters of violence are convinced that there's something going on with the fans outside of the battle arena.

We quickly slipped away into the darkness with a clever illusion by our gnome illusionist Levi who simply joined our party. Where and when we're not even sure. Our party will sort that issue out later on.
For me moment we found a local inn for our accommodations after selling a few little trinkets from our loot.
We were attacked by thieves and bandits but we were waiting for this. We made contact with the local thieves guild after a brief parley.
We found out plenty including confirming our suspicions that there's something off with the fans of Mr. Millennium.

The guild has a wrestler/gladiator in the thick of the up coming events. We got in good with the thieves guild by getting our gadgeteer to fix a water purifying system in one of their neighborhoods.  We also saw a couple of the Orc gangers entering into the battle arena events. We're staking out the arena for the moment. The party's Amazing Adventures rpg PC's for tonight's The Battle Arena of Mr. Millennium  were on full wrestling mode with all of the action outside the arena.

A brave group of heroes is needed to answer his challenge, infiltrate the deadly games, destroy the source of the broadcasts freeing the captives and finally confront him and his wicked wrestling minions to end this reign of terror once and for all in the Battle Arena of Mr. Millennium!'

We were wrapping up in the nearby Village of the Burning Sun with the artifacts of the Chainbreakers biker gang from last session.  Our party distributed the artifacts to the village. The broadcast power was turned back on. The party's Amazing Adventures rpg PC's for tonight's  The Battle Arena of Mr. Millennium were on full wrestling mode as the party saw the transmission of Mr. Millennium's wasteland battle royale!

Our fellow adventurer 'The Manhattan Mauler' is completely fixated on the battle royal because he failed his saving throw. We started packing up and moving deeper into the wasteland urban landscape. We rolled on random encounters and ran straight into the remains of the Chainbreakers. We got into an extended fire fire with bows and arrows. The Chainbreakers were using obsidian headed arrows. This was in response to our using a light scout armor we found in the bowl-a- rama.
We left the scout armor back in the village as a huge artifact. Our pair of Elven bowmen laid the smack down with a hail of arrows. But Oaken Leaf was injured by an arrow cutting deeply into his leg. We threw a hand grenade and fled deeper into  the urban landscape when we came across a healer outpost.
A lizard man healer named Dr. Zaurous was on staff and brought in Oaken Leaf. We paid with two medicine kits and the PC will be out of commission for a month. We stayed the night at a local inn directly opposite of the healer outpost.

Amazing Adventures Rpg and The Warriors of the Wasteland#1 Mutants in the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama - Session Report Two

"In the desolate stretches of your post-apocalyptic world, the dusty and abandoned “Bowl-A-Rama” stands as an unlikely beacon of hope. Powered by a hidden, ancient energy source which has suddenly turned off, it is the last known lifeline for locals in the nearby Village of the Burning Sun. However, the building has recently been invaded by a biker gang of mutant orcs, known as “The Outriders,” led by their evil boss “Chainbreaker” who has taken some locals captive and transformed the place into his new fortress and party headquarters!"

" Because of its significance, the locals have cobbled together a brave group of survivors from the hamlet to set out to breach and reclaim it. Your challenge is to restore the power, rescue all captives, gather any valuables and destroy the evil Mutants in the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama"
Our party secured thier camp and moved in on the remains of the Moonlite- Bowl- rama. We guaged the gang's numbers and strength. We pick right up here on the blog.

We were deep in the wastelands with our Amazing Adventures rpg PC's for tonight's The  Warriors of the Wasteland#1 Mutants in the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama. Our party of adventurers got into it hot and heavy with the Outriders gang around the premeter of the Moonlite Bowl-a- rama. Things went from bad to worse for the Orc biker gang and things slid down hill.

We crawled into the ventwork of the bowling alley. Then into the bowling alley's lounge and then snuck along the hall. The orcs had made the lounge a huge mess. Our Elven archer took out two Orc warriors and the Manhatten Mauler took out two more warriors in the back of the warehouse of the alleyworks.

We got bogged down with four more Orc gangers in the bar. We had to take these guys out fast before they sounded the alarm to the rest of the gang! We did this with a sleep spell and then three slit throats. Next it was a straight blasting of two more gangers in the bar by Wild Bill our gunslinger. We confronted Chainbreaker with a plethora of four hand grenades that we'd been saving for taking the bastard out. And we managed very well with our rolls. The rest of the 'Outsiders' gave up! Not simply a little bit but took off with white flags flying. Next Dr. Chan got the  the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama A.I. and broad cast power back on line restoring power to the nearby Village of the Burning Sun. We then went about training three other village elders to be in the arts of the A.I. and broadcast power unit's operation and maintence. All of this took about two months game time,
While getting the broadcast power station back on line we intercepted a transmission from Mr. Millenium's Battle Arena! The Manhattan Mauler & party will answer the call!

Amazing Adventures Rpg and The Warriors of the Wasteland#1 Mutants in the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama - Session Report One

We created Amazing Adventures rpg PC's for tonight's The  Warriors of the Wasteland#1 Mutants in the Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama. The PC's were taken over into an alternate timeline onto  a post apocalytic Earth. The
Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama has stopped broadcasting power & scouts were sent in. They didn't expect the pig faced orc motorbike gang 'The Outriders' has taken over the Moonlite bowling alley. The scouts were captured by 'The Outsiders' & only one of the scouts managed to escape.  We got called in by the shaman's council of Village of the Burning Sun.
The
Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama is twenty miles from the village & we had to march through wasteland. And came face to face with mutant bats by night after we camped and faced down giant rats by day!

We secured our camp and moved onward. Our party encountered several 'Outriders' biker scouts but we hid to observe.
They dropped actual bottled beer on the roadway that runs through the woods! So we know that they've been to the Moonlite. We came face to face with a giant mutant snake with acid breath. Our Elven archer Raven Oakleaf took this thing out. We found another area to camp in.
We went hunting for food and ran into a very large mutant dinosaur. The party ran away leaving the dinosaur to eat the deer. The camp was by a lake & we found another herd of deer. And we shot a deer and this time checked it over for physical or other  mutations. The white tail deer was normal and delicious. Apparently the smell of cooking deer attracted a giant rat of unusual size. We gutted this thing and began smoking & salting meat for our continuing  trip to
The Moonlite Bowl-A-Rama.

Amazing Adventures Mars One Off - Tombs of Warfare Session Report

So I got involved in a totally different end of a fellow DM's game specifically his Amazing Adventures/Victorius rpg Mars game. This is a vastly different Mars game then my own camopaign and uses many of the conventions from earlier eras of  original Dungeons & Dragons. We were adventurers in the employ of a black wizard who was seeking rare ingrediants for lichdom. And of course this was based on Lenard Lakofka's "Blueprint For a Lich" from the Best of The Dragon Volume II.

So we ended up in the middle of a warzone looking for a tomb & my PC is a red fighting man wearing Panthan armor. And the first random roll on the encounter chart I get is a calot and being in middle of the warzone this is a war dog! Needless to say I got into the fight of my life because this thing is the equivelant to dire wolf. This thing isn't Woola from 'A Princess of Mars' by ERB! Instead this thing is a full on beast being controlled by a handler whose straight outta of Grey Elf's OD&D resources and Doc's Warriors of Mars miniature rules found here!

Michael Whalen artwork used without permission
So while this thing is trying to eat my face off the rest of the guys are dealing with the calots and the army around them. Needless to say this was pretty intense. And we could be killed any moment.
Right about then we were in the middle of the warzone. And almost made it too our flier to get back to our employer. This was not a dress rehersial but I'm trying to play catch up with an ongoing campaign.

On a lucky roll our large block head of a hand to hand specialist rolls lucky and finds the tomb. And we all scrambeled in while taking incoming fire! Our mad scientist rolled dex checks & a fate point to shove the bullets out the door so we didn't have exploding radium shells when we left this place. This tomb stretched far into the Martian underworld as we adjusted the radium bulbs of the place. And this means a slog through a mega dungeon before reaching the tomb of the ancient white Martian vampire.
