Review & Commentary On Zozer Games Free Adventure HOSTILE Situation Report 007 - The Ark By Paul Eilliot For The Hostile rpg and other 2d6 Science Fiction Rpg's

"You've detected an Ark ... a ship of sleeping thousands on their way to establish a new human colony. But it is dead, silent and locked in an orbit around a lifeless moon. You are ordered to investigate ... are the sleepers still alive? "

"OR, play as some of the crew, woken by the ship's mainframe, and shocked to find the sleeper ship in some remote orbit, with chaos in the corridors ... "

HOSTILE Situation Report 007 - The Ark follows in the wake of the Silver Star a colony ship that has come afoul of a situation; "The PCs can either be part of a relief crew onboard a colony start-up mission that goes missing, OR the crew of a starship that stumbles upon the dead starship in orbit around the moon of a gas giant in the LX504 system. When they call it in, the Company order them to investigate and locate survivors, for a financial bonus. The ship, after some investigation (without power or transponder) could be the Silver State, which went missing a couple of months ago en route to establish a new colony on LX606 in Extraction Zone 9 (EZ9 0606)."
What follows is a tight adventure situation of terror and weirdness as the PC's try to figure out what's going on. Like other
HOSTILE Situation Reports Ark showcase many of the elements that make Hostile great and terrifying as a 2d6 retro horror/Sci Fi rpg. This is a straight forward & highly dangerous adventure that plays to the strengths of the Hostile rpg.

And there's nothing wrong with that! The fact is that right out the gate players want to know what thier in for within a Hostile rpg campaign and Ark highlights the high points in two pages meaning that it never over stays it's welcome.

Ark also highlights one of the more unsung adventure  venues for Hostile adventures the colony ship in this case 'the Silver Star'; "
The Silver Star carries 2,000 sleeping colonists and several thousand tons of vehicles, agricultural products, prefabricated housing, construction materials and supplies. It also has a sleeping crew of 14. There are hunting rifles and a few shotguns somewhere amongst the colonists’ supplies"
This style of colony ship could easily be adapted for other Hostile adventures and this makes the ulility of Ark pretty solid. And with a bit of work Ark could easily be adapted to other Cepheus Engine rpg's and home campaigns.
And this is especially true of the Clement or Earth sector rpg's where 'the Silver Star' would be right at home out on the frontier ferrying colonists to thier new homes until something rather unpleasant happens. The Clement Sector might have thousands of such ships as 'the Silver Star' out there.
So is Ark worth downloading?! In a word, yes! There's a lot to recommend Ark including everything from repeat ability, to horror factor, and good old fashioned 2d6 horrific fun!
