Review & Commentary On Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe By Author Paul Elliott From Zozer Games For 2d6 Modern War rpg & 2d6 Military Rpg's

"1944 Fortress Europe is a campaign pack for Zozer Games’ Modern War roleplaying game. This isn’t a tactical war game or skirmish game, it is most definitely a roleplaying game that allows players to experience life in an infantry squad during the Second World War in Europe 1944 and 1945. You and your comrades will be ordered to take part in small scale unit operations, raids, patrols and full-on combat assaults. But there will also be times for intrigue, advancement and problem solving away from the fighting."

"This campaign book provides a host of materials that will allow you to run roleplaying games in war-torn Western Europe. It runs through the equipment, weaponry, tactics and organisation of the Commonwealth, American and German armies, and provides full statistics for the firearms, heavy weapons and military vehicles of those forces. A campaign chapter looks at terrain, encounters, and the 1940s way of waging war where it differs from the modern methods."

"We present several military units to which your player characters might belong, these units saw action in most of the campaigns described at the start of this book, and provide continuity should your games progress through the war in Europe and into Germany itself. Each unit comes with a list of engagements in which it participated, and into which you can throw your squad of player characters as they follow the progress of the liberation of Europe. Of course, we also include a few German army units if you want to roleplay from the German perspective."

Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe By Author Paul Elliott is his late World War II 2d6 rpg supplement for the Modern War Rpg system. Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe boils down a vast time period with everything that player & DM need to run a highly successful Modern Warfare game set during the waning days of WWII.
The format here is solidly like Zozer Games other Modern War titles and it's a solid step up in the 2d6 rpg  system. And this means that DM's and thier players can take thier game deep into the ruins of wartorn Europe during WWII. Everything from tanks to flame throwers is covered with tons of fire arms & military systems covered. The careers, and PC options are right in line with the main Modern War Rpg system but tailored to late WWII.
Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe gives the players tons to work with and it all back slots into Modern War as not an after thought but a whole cloth setting book. And I can't stress this enough.

The work that went into Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe is pretty damn staggering. I watched Ian Stead on Twitter go through art piece after art piece to fit this book. Tanks, rifles, etc. were all done by the artist.
The level of detail is prcise and in line with the wargame asthetic that Modern War brings to the 2d6 table top. And we see this time and again here in Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe
Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe is a damn useful book because it brings the 2d6 rpg experience to late European theater of WWII.
This was an exceedingly deadly time in World War II as it was ruin to house shooting, and taking on of the last of the Nazi war machine.
And already I can see the possibilities of using Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe for alternative time line and World War II play. Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe will work with existing 2d6 Traveller and Cepheus Engine rpg titles.
And the possibilities are myriad for my imagination. Zozer Games did an excellent and concise job with Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe. And there's real value for the 10 bucks that thier charging for this Modern War rpg plug in and setting book. Modern War: 1944 Fortress Europe is a real hit for me as both DM and player!
