Appendix N Science Fiction Films From The 1970s

I've been thinking long & hard about my post the other day about the Warrenverse. It brought back the weird cycle of science fiction films from the 1970s.. These were thought provoking, strangely weird films.None of these films except Star Wars had really happy endings.  Here are some of them..
10. The Andromeda Strain
This one scared the crap out of me as a child..

9. Logan's Run
There are some films that get better with age & this one has shaped every single Gamma World & Mutant Future game I've run.

8. West World
Another incredible film that doesn't get half of the credit that it deserves

7. Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Forgotten this is body horror at its finest. The Donald Sutherland scream at the end still makes my skin crawl.. Awesome movie
6. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Sigh I have to include this one because it was a counter point in some of the depictions of aliens that we saw in the 70s

5. Solaris
Weird, haunting, very Russian, & very strange. This is the original adaptation of the science fiction classic

4. Star Wars
Well no words are needed about this one.

3. Damnation Alley
So this is my list & this is one of those weird ones that still haunts my dreams at night. The movie is awesome & I love the land master!

2. Phase IV
Weird, haunting, with killer mutant highly evolved ants. Everything is so seventies... Very cool little film

1. Alien
My all time favorite hands down horror in space movie from the 70s. Awesome beyond compare

  1. Glad to see Phase IV get its due. It's a weird combo of disaster film and 2001.

  2. YEAH! Weird, I was just thinking about Phase IV this morning, I have no idea why. Haven't even seen any ants in the house. When I saw this list, I *knew* you'd have it on here!

  3. Thanks Fro the comment, first off & secondly PhaseIV is really hard to classify & a great movie none the less. It has elements of horror,a weird alien/insects are going to kill us thing, & finally the end of the human species as we know it. Its a bit on the cosmic trippy side as well.
