Sally's Men are a group of mercenaries who specialize in the tracking, killing, & exterminating of extra planar entities. Sallies as they are called are recruited from Old Earth specifically. By the time of the Human Empire, Earth is a bombed out wasteland. The place breeds hard women & men who will stop at nothing to survive. Its the kind of place that breeds both survivors & cynics.
Sally's men were originally founded by the scientist Sally Briab who specialized in extra planar drive systems. During the course of her work she stumbled upon the concept of abandon gods. These planar entities are are often trapped within their own heavens or hells starving for planar energy or magic. When the last worshiper has died they begin to fade away & quietly starve.
The scientist became personally involved with her work when she stumbled upon one such god & its heaven. The vampiric god demon almost killed her outright upon their first "meeting". She hired a group of desperate individuals from old Earth. They became her personal bodyguards.
After losing over half of their number the first night, they gained the upper hand when the creature was beheaded by a lucky throw of an ancient throwing knife. The creature was destroyed but the experience marked the men. They began to look for those whose experiences marked them as different. Some might even say haunted.
Sally's Men count among their ranks scientists, adventurers, & astronauts from every walk of life. The mercenaries continue to move across the space lanes in search of adventure & cash.
Yet despite all of their success they always make an annual pilgrimage back to Old Earth. Much of their weapons & materials are hand crafted within the furnaces of the old burned out remains of factories & such. Sally's Men is a group that continues to keep the spirit of the ancient ways alive even during this time of galactic expansion & civilization.
