Black Guard Mini Campaign Session Update - Escape Frpm Avalidad Powered By The SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games

This picks up right from the last session report here.  So the Blackguard PC's actually were able to duck Zonetec operatives and exit Joes through the back. They found themselves half way across the planet at that point. Someplace in South East Asia right near a giant bill board. As a matter of fact this one! The players are freaked out because we've started using the  Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start,  things are coming full circle quickly again.

The PC's went back to the diner where a weedy little man named Bill “The Stick” McKay made contact with em. They agreed to pay him cash to get them outta of the middle of the South East Asia city where other Zone Tec agents are operating outta of.  Bill however is a bit of a greedy bastard of a driver & shook down two of the other PC's. Being in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar doesn't help the party at all. Bill seems to speak the language & is driving a non descript 1920's truck.

Bill drove em to the coast & got paid. They paid him a bit extra so he didn't double cross them.
The players seemed really happy that they've made it to a beautiful resort. The party decided to take a day by the beach & recover. A beautiful nearby hotel seemed very inviting and when they went in the hotel manager greeted them by name. The party went to pay for the rooms but it seems that their employer had already paid for the rooms?! No matter, the players were puzzled but hadn't figured out what was going on. After relaxing for a few hours, recharing in the sun, and getting some decent food in their bellies. The players decided to swim & head into town to re-equip. So after another day of game time it was time to move forward. That's when the first zombies began to show up about noon the next day! And the news reports from SNN came over the hotel's lounge again.

That's right the party was back in the back half of the time loop of the Red Room's Resort of the Dead! And the players were pissed! After a night of dice rolls to make contact with the black market, make contacts with the local thieves guild, and assassins guild. It was all for not as the zombies began to pour in!
The SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games came in handy as the PC's began blowing the Hell outta of the beach front property!

Can they survive the time jumps and the zombies?! We shall find out because the players are determined to survive at all costs!

Black Guard Mini Campaign Session Update - New York City Monsters Powered By The SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games

Wretchploitation quick start rules is solid set to get the players involved in an OSR game. And we've been talking about using a Wretchploitation as a backbone system with other B/X powered OSR titles. This is going to pick up from yesterday's blog entry here.

When it comes to deciding where & when to set an OSR  campaign is this one of the most important parts of the process. Take for example our experiences with the Wretched OSR titles from the Red Room  which have been floating around.  New York City 1970's doesn't seem like a set up for a home base but it's perfectly aligned for an OSR powered 70's occult & adventure driven campaign.

We've played through two different mini campaigns already using Bloat Games SURVIVE THIS!!  Shadows Hide - Core Rules. The 'Devil's Affair' which takes place in Chipping Sodbury & the cults of Asmodeus in 1977. The 'Black Guard' have taken on vampires before in 1974 in the middle of New York City's alleyways. They managed to recover a 'wild vampire' for their employers and a very nice bonus in their coffers.

What the players didn't expect was a group of cultists, an evil cleric, & five zombies against the 'Blackguard'. Things began going badly for our party & then they got help from three of our regular players who were in town. The new party consisted of an Brice Talbot an Elven hitman, McGaint a Half Orge gangster, Mick McPhreen a Dwarven heavy who just blew in from Elsewhere. They were generated using Mark Hunt's B/X Gangbuster rules.

Brice Talbot an Elven hitman, McGaint a Half Orge gangster, & Mick McPhreen a Dwarven heavy were all a part of our pre WWII mini campaign. We've now got a 6th level vampire cleric in the service of Asmodeus who escaped. Thanks to James Mishler Games Vampire Class the NPC managed to hold off and deal with 9 player's PC's. The PC's did manage to grab a magic item do dad or two for their troubles. But now they have to identify them. And their wizard is going to have a good time with the research.

Right now the player's PC's are licking their wounds, laying low from the cops, and figuring out their next move.

Black Guard Mini Campaign Session Update - Spine & Time Rip In Avalidad Powered By The SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games

Twelve people today were gunned down right outside a 'Blow & Shop' on third street. And no one did a damn thing about it. They were all missing a part of their spinal column lay like limp rag dolls on the side of the street. And the people responsible for it disappeared in a blinding flash of light. And that's when Zone Tec was called in.

Let me explain why? The year is sometime in the early 2030's & certain drugs, black technologies, etc have been band from United State's soil. The
Second Prohibition era has ushered a thriving black market for these items & things are getting very dangerous. The blackguard are a team of mercenaries who travel throughout time & space have ignited a gang war in the United States & Avalidad. And the Blackguard only just became aware of it after they d-ported in from a zombie infested world. Their psychic reported to them that the locals were all a part of a bio cybernetic hivemind and the technology was highly valuable. And that's when they were attacked and things got ugly. They grabbed the 'artifacts' for their employer & d ported out of there. But they haven't left Avalidad yet because they came back for more plunder
Now with the release of the
Wretched New Flesh Postcards from Avalidad Quick Start,  things are coming full circle. The party is now out zombie infested resort from last session & up to their necks in Science Fantasy goodness. The players have decided to regroup at the local Joe's New All American Diner. What the players don't know is that Joe's is actually  GBM-1 Joe's Diner by  Mark Hunt. And the authentic looking beat cop walking his beat outside of Joe's actually is a 1930's beat cop. And there's Joe's New All American Diner all over the world from Lakefront city Midwestern United States, to downtown Avalidad as well as points inbetween including Europe and parts of the far East. And the only problem their all of the same place with the same people. What folks take for a tourist trap  by some American corporation isn't. Joe's Diner is  authentic because it literally is & has been ripped & split from the local space time continuum.

Events at  GBM-1 Joe's Diner play out the differently everytime because in the morning everything reset's and the coffee in the morning is good & strong. Everyone's alive & events are ready to play out again. And then there's the fact that if you walk into a Joe's  in Bangkok or  Avalidad the waitresses always remember your face & your name. But if you die in Joe's you don't comeback or resurrection. There are somethings that superpowers can't solve and even Zone Sec may not be able to handle what's a Joe's.
And I've already talked with Mark Hunt about using Joe's Diner & he told me to go for it.

The Blackguards Mini Campaign & The Resort of the Dead By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs Powered By The SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games

So at the last minute I've had to come up with a full on OSR adventure for this evening to DM. The session report of the Blackguard that the other day appeared on this blog has caught on with our players. They talked it over with DM Steve & wanted a more comicbook approach to the affair. And so we started using the SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City - Core Rules by Bloat Games.  The cavet here is that I get to choose the adventure for our dimension hopping mercs.

And since I don't have a lot of time to prepare, I wanted to kill two birds with one stone tonight. So with a quick purchase the Red Room's Resort of the Dead appeared in my cart. That's right this isn't a comp copy but an adventure that clocks in at about fifty three pages of undead goodness. The Blackguard teleport in & have only a vague idea of uneasiness that their psychic reads. And since the undead are not alive she'll be complete unaware of the impending zombie apocalpyse. Why when they do become aware would they stay?! Never underestimate the power of player greed. Gold & cocaine found within the hotel's vaults is motive enough a plenty.

So why
SURVIVE THIS!! Vigilante City?! Because of the fact that the game itself has its roots within a zombie infestation background. And fun in the sun zombie apocalpyse sounds perfect for a Summertime mini campaign. The players will have limited ammo, devices, etc. and after a couple of days gametime the encounters are going to get dicey really quick!
Got the entire The Resort of the Dead By Miguel Ribeiro, Sílvia Clemente, & Joe Coombs all printed out and ready to go for tonight!
Reading through their are a ton of NPC's to interact with or get tripped up by or  in  Resort of the Dead. Even super powers are not going to make any real difference to hordes of undead stumbling along the beach. At four dollars  Resort of the Dead was a steal.
