House name: The Iron Vein (The Rust-Eaters) Faction For Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg

Welcome to the night shift. In the world of Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars, a "House" isn’t just a social club—it’s a survival strategy, a political faction, and a potential employer (or HR nightmare).

Here is a unique vampire house designed to fit the gritty, blue-collar aesthetic of the game.

House name: The Iron Vein (The Rust-Eaters)

The Iron Vein is not composed of brooding aristocrats in velvet capes. They are the industrial vampires: the night-shift foremen, the long-haul truckers, and the graveyard-shift demolition crews. They believe that immortality is a tool, and blood is the grease that keeps the world’s hidden machinery turning.

The Vibe

  • Aesthetic: High-vis vests over stained leather jackets, heavy work boots, and the smell of ozone and diesel.

  • Domain: Scrap yards, shipping docks, underground transit tunnels, and aging power plants.

  • Philosophy: "The world is built on the backs of those who don’t sleep. We own the infrastructure; we own the night."

House Traits & Abilities

Members of The Iron Vein have adapted their vampiric nature to the harsh environments of manual labor and industrial hazards.

TraitDescription
Lead-Lined BloodGain a +2 bonus to saves against radiation, chemical toxins, and industrial pollutants.
The Foreman’s EyeCan instinctively sense structural weaknesses in buildings or machinery with a successful Perception check.
Heavy Metal SiphonCan consume blood contaminated with heavy metals or "dirty" sources that would make other vampires sick.

Unique Power: Kinetic Anchoring

By spending a Blood Point, a member of the Iron Vein can "anchor" themselves to a solid metal structure. For $1D6$ rounds, they cannot be moved by physical force, and their melee strikes deal additional crushing damage as if they had the mass of the building itself.

Key NPCs

  • "Hard-Hat" Harry: The House Patriarch. He claims to have helped weld the foundations of the Empire State Building. He speaks in union metaphors and views all "unaffiliated" vampires as scabs.

  • Sledge: A former heavy-weight enforcer who lost his lower jaw in the 70s. It’s been replaced with a crudely enchanted chrome prosthetic that can bite through rebar.

  • The Dispatcher: A young, tech-savvy vampire who monitors police scanners and transit grids to find "discreet" feeding grounds for the house members.

Adventure Hooks

  1. The Scab Labor: A rival house (likely some "pretty boy" aristocrats) is trying to buy out the local docks. The Iron Vein wants the players to "discourage" the new management without starting a full-scale Masquerade breach.

  2. The Midnight Leak: A supernatural contaminant is leaking into the city's water supply from an Iron Vein-controlled refinery. Is it an accident, or is Harry trying to "season" the local human population?

  3. The Ghost Train: A decommissioned subway car, rumored to be an Iron Vein mobile vault, has gone missing from the tracks. It contains either a literal fortune or a very angry Elder.

Veteran's Tip: If you're negotiating with an Iron Vein vampire, don't bring wine. Bring a thermos of "High-Octane"—type O-Negative spiked with a shot of espresso and a pinch of iron filings.

Since we're casting the Iron Vein as allies, they function less like a shadowy cabal and more like the supernatural world’s Union Local. They are the guys who know where the bodies are buried—mostly because they dug the holes and poured the concrete.

As allies, the Iron Vein provides the "blue-collar" support your players will desperately need when a mission goes sideways.

The Benefit of the Union Card

If the players earn the trust of "Hard-Hat" Harry or the House, they gain access to specific "Professional Services" that other, more elitist vampire houses wouldn't touch:

  • The Clean-Up Crew: Had a messy fight in a downtown alley? For a "membership fee" (usually a favor or a rare vintage of blood), a crew of Iron Vein ghouls will arrive in a garbage truck to steam-clean the pavement and dispose of any... evidence.

  • Safe Houses (The "Work Sites"): They can provide "off-the-grid" housing in half-finished skyscrapers or abandoned sub-basements. These spots are ugly, but they are physically secure and shielded from most magical scrying by layers of lead and steel.

  • Black Market Gear: They have the best "modified" equipment. Need a silver-plated crowbar? Or a shotgun that fires rock salt and industrial filings? The Iron Vein "Machine Shop" has you covered.

The Cost of Cooperation

The Iron Vein doesn't want money—they want solidarity. If they help the players, they will eventually call in a "Picket Line" favor.

The "Union Task" Hook

"Look, we’ll help you bury those werewolf remains. But next week, the city is trying to demolish the Old Miller Power Plant. That’s our territory. We need you to go into the city archives and 'reorganize' the paperwork so that building stays standing."

Key Ally NPC: "Gasket"

Every group of allies needs a point of contact. Meet Gasket, a mid-level Iron Vein member assigned to "manage the contractors" (the players).

  • Appearance: Always wearing greasy coveralls with "GASKET" embroidered on the chest. He’s perpetually smoking a cigarette that never seems to get shorter.

  • Personality: Gruff, tired, and surprisingly loyal. He treats the players like junior apprentices.

  • Utility: He’s a master of Industrial Alchemy. Give him twenty minutes and a toolbox, and he can turn a standard sedan into an armored, monster-ramming tank.

How they'll help in a pinch:

If the players are being chased by something nasty, they can head toward the Iron Vein Scrapyard. The moment the players cross the gate, the Iron Vein drops the heavy steel shutters, and suddenly the pursuers have to deal with a dozen vampires wielding welding torches and pneumatic hammers.

Note for the GM: Use the Iron Vein to ground the players. When the supernatural world gets too "high fantasy" or "gothic horror," have Gasket show up to complain about the price of blood-thickeners and the local zoning laws. It keeps the Nightshift vibe perfectly gritty.

Batsquatch: Terror from Mount St. Helens Mega Cryptid For Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars Rpg

Batsquatch: Terror from Mount St. Helens

The Batsquatch is a powerful, flying cryptid often reported near Mount St. Helens and other mountainous regions of the Pacific Northwest. It combines the massive bulk of a Sasquatch with the chilling features of a gigantic bat. As a Game Master (GM) for Nightshift: Veterans of the Supernatural Wars, you can use the following stats and extended material to challenge your players.

Since a direct stat block for Batsquatch is not available in the core rules (based on my search), this is a custom block built using the conventions and mechanics of the Nightshift: VSW system, particularly its d20 checks and percentile skills.

 Batsquatch (Mega-Cryptid)

  • Wing Slam (Melee): $1\text{d}10 + 3$ (STR) Bludgeoning damage. Used in place of one or both claw attacks; can affect all targets in a 10 ft. cone (see Extended Material below).

Saves

SaveBaseNotes
Death+6High Toughness and Vitality.
Mental+3Resists psychic powers and mental manipulation.
Physical+5Resists toxins and physical ailments.

Extended Material and GM Notes

1. Mythology and Habitat

  • Origin: The first prominent sighting occurred shortly after the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Some believe the volcanic event somehow freed or awakened the creature from a deep, subterranean lair or perhaps a forgotten pocket dimension.

  • Habitat: Primarily mountainous forests, deep canyons, and cave systems in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, and occasionally extending to California). It prefers areas with low human population and high forest cover for hunting.

  • Behavior: Highly predatory and aggressive. It hunts deer, livestock, and occasionally lone humans. It is generally a solitary creature, making it difficult to track.

2. Unique Powers

Electromagnetic Interference (Supernatural Power)

  • Effect: The presence of the Batsquatch generates a powerful field of paranormal energy that disrupts electronic and mechanical devices.

  • Rule: When a Batsquatch is within 50 feet of a vehicle (car, truck, snowmobile, etc.) or complex electronic equipment (radio, computer, advanced weaponry), the device has a 50% chance of suddenly stalling, failing, or malfunctioning at the beginning of each round. If a vehicle stalls, it takes a successful Toughness check (DC 15) to restart it in the following rounds.

Grasping Talons (Special Combat)

  • Effect: The Batsquatch can use its massive feet/talons to grapple a medium-sized or smaller creature and lift it into the air.

  • Rule: If a Claw attack hits a medium or smaller target, the Batsquatch can forgo damage to initiate a grapple. The target must succeed on a Strength or Agility check (DC 16) to avoid the grapple. Once grappled, the Batsquatch can fly up to its maximum movement (40 ft.) per round while carrying the target. The grappled target is considered Helpless for all other Batsquatch attacks, taking an automatic Bite attack in the next round.

Sonic Wing Slam (Area Attack)

  • Effect: The Batsquatch’s wings are so large and powerful that a single flap can create a stunning sonic boom or a powerful gust of wind.

  • Rule: As an attack, it can replace its two Claw attacks with a Wing Slam targeting a 10-foot cone or a 10-foot radius burst. All targets in the area take $1\text{d}10 + 3$ Bludgeoning damage and must make a Toughness Save (DC 14) or be Stunned for 1 round.

3. Weaknesses

  • Sonic/High Pitch Noise: Being a creature of the night with oversized bat-like features, it is highly sensitive to extreme acoustic stimulus.

    • Rule: Any loud, high-frequency sound (a Sonic Weapon, a specialized scream, or a loud explosion nearby) forces the Batsquatch to make a Toughness Save (DC 15). On a failure, its DV is reduced by 2 and its Ranged and Melee Bonuses are reduced by 1 for $1\text{d}4$ rounds as it is disoriented.

  • Silver: While not a true lycanthrope, its supernatural nature means it reacts poorly to refined silver.

    • Rule: Attacks made with Silvered weapons deal an additional $1\text{d}4$ damage.

Doctor Phineas Malthus, "The Bio-Alchemist" mid tier NPC villains that appeared in our Nightshift Veterans of the Supernatural Wars rpg or Amazing Advenures rpg mash up campaign

Here's one of the mid tier NPC villains that appeared in our Nightshift or Amazing Advenures rpg mash up campaign

 Doctor Phineas Malthus, "The Bio-Alchemist"

Dimitrie Paciurea - Chimera

Doctor Phineas Malthus is a classic mad scientist, a former esteemed biologist who turned to forbidden experiments involving genetic splicing, ancient alchemical processes, and bizarre surgical enhancements. He is a looming threat with a warped vision of "improving" humanity through forced mutation. Malthus operates out of a mobile, high-tech laboratory disguised within a decommissioned cargo ship or an unmarked warehouse, constantly moving to evade authorities and the veterans who hunt him.
Description
Malthus is a gaunt man in his late 50s with a shock of prematurely white hair and piercing, slightly mismatched eyes. He often wears a blood-stained lab coat over tweed trousers and a waistcoat. One of his forearms is a grotesque, mechanical-organic hybrid he developed himself, covered in constantly shifting, metallic scales and equipped with hidden tools and syringes. His voice is a low, sibilant whisper.

  • Monstrous Arm (Brawl): His mechanical-organic arm is a natural weapon.
    • Attack Bonus: +3
    • Damage: 1d6 + 1 (STR)
  • Vial Bandolier: He carries multiple syringes and vials with different effects.
    • Paralytic Serum: (Physical Save DC 14 to resist). Failure results in paralysis for 1d6 rounds.
    • Berserker Serum (Self Only): Malthus can inject himself to gain +2 STR and temporary hit points for 1d4 rounds, but suffers a -2 penalty to INT saves during this time.
    • Acidic Compound (Thrown): Deals 2d4 acid damage in a small splash radius (requires DEX check to throw accurately).
Villain Arc & Motivation
Motivation: Malthus genuinely believes that he is pushing the boundaries of biological possibility, attempting to create a superior form of life that can withstand the supernatural threats the veterans fight. He views normal humans as weak and obsolete.
Arc Progression:
  1. Stage 1 (Introduction): The veterans discover a series of victims with bizarre mutations or trace amounts of highly advanced serums in their systems. They track these clues back to Malthus' current laboratory.
  2. Stage 2 (Escalation): The veterans confront Malthus, but he escapes, leaving behind a "perfected" mutate (a strong, animalistic NPC with high physical stats and low intelligence) to fight them. He uses this encounter to gather data on their abilities.
  3. Stage 3 (Climax): Malthus lures the veterans to a final, fortified lair. Here, he has injected himself with his most potent experimental formula, turning him into a temporary, powerful mini-boss for the final confrontation. He fights to the death, believing he can finally prove the superiority of his work.
