MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
This is the international trailer for the movie & digs deeper into the mission objective that we've seen hinted at in the other trailers. The movie looks visual stunning & very interesting. Where is this going to go remains to be seen. Can't wait to check it out.

Prometheus As OSR setting
The Prometheus setting looks like a possible one for a serious space based game. There are lots of chooses out there. X-Plorers or possibly Terminal Space might simulate this game world with little problems. What other movies might also work in this universe ?
This is one of those movies that might easily be found in the same universe as Alien or Prometheus
In the future, Federal Marshal William O'Niel (Sean Connery) is assigned to a tour of duty in atitanium ore mining outpost on the Jupiter moon of Io.
Conditions on Io are difficult - gravity is 1/6 that of Earth's with no breathable atmosphere, spacesuits are cumbersome, and miners carry their own air supply. Shifts are long, but significant bonuses are paid. Sheppard (Peter Boyle) boasts that since he took over the running of Io, productivity has broken all previous records.
The film begins with a miner named Tarlow (John Ratzenberger) suffering an attack of delirium tremens ripping open his work-suit, resulting in his death by decompression. Later, another miner, Cane (Eugene Lipinski), goes outside without his spacesuit, and likewise dies from decompression.
It goes on from there into one of the grittier darker movies set in space around this style of 'used universe' . The entire movie ends up being one of 'High Noon in Space'
This might easily be set within the same universe as Alien!

This is the type of universe where the banks take your limbs & charge you for the privilege. Make no mistake this is a horror campaign & with no holds bare could cause all kinds of interesting situations.
The movie reminds me of another great flick that might also be set at the opposite end of the horror science fantasy equation.
Talking with a friend today the movie Event Horizon is about : In 2047, the rescue vessel Lewis and Clark is dispatched to answer a distress signal received from the Event Horizon, a starship that disappeared during its maiden voyage to Proxima Centauri seven years prior.
This is another 'functional used universe' that could be a great source of production material & fodder for a mission or adventure. There's lots of others but I have a feeling that these will serve very well for inspiration. I have friends who are rapid Rogue Trader (40K rpg) Fans/Players who insist that this movie should be included in the official Games Workshop timeline for the game as an example of the first ship to enter the Warp from that universe. The same might be used as a secret faster then light experiment in a game such as this.
There are five things to remember when dealing with horror games :
- All characters are expendable & anyone can die at anytime. The conflicts & stakes are higher so will the body count be
- The usual 'grab the treasure' mentality of players will get them killed & that's fine
- This is only a game & there's nothing personal in the adventure. Have fun.
- Horror gaming is dark but not necessarily depressing!!
- Alterations to characters may occur & these games should be 'one shot' adventures but not necessarily so. The official timeline for Prometheus provides all kinds of opportunities for more games. Why is the time line's technology advancing so fast? What sinister secrets might Weyland also be hiding? There's all kinds of things that can be done with this!
