A product of the insect like Zel'lu'shree whose world drifts in and out of weird astral shoals of hyper & astral space. The Zel'lu'shree fish the deadly native behemoths that come to the methane shores of their planet. The whirly blade is a deadly combination of crystal matrix lattice, & metal. The lattice are often found washed up on the shores of Saigona 7 after it has completed its orbital cycle.
These weapons or tools are cold forged in the flames of their native planet. The natives use them to subdue the tentacles of the methane breathing behemoths. It is said that the first explorer upon seeing this at work uttered the famous poem from 1830 Alfred Tennyson published the irregular sonnet The Kraken,[18] which described a massive creature that dwelled at the bottom of the sea:
Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
The sais are used in quads by the triple armed insectoids to block the native monsters whirling tentacle blades of death. The blades do 1d10 points of damage normally but when broken at the the hilt the blades are called kernal'u (baby human blade weapons).
Interestingly the crystal matrices which run down the the center of the tool can be used to parry some super science blades! The whirl blade must be bonded with its own in a super science ritual by native scientists. The ritual lasts for 2 hours. The user gains +2 for all attacks though!
