The Medusae Mechanism Artifact for Your Old School Campaigns

'What is it we seek oh master?' the sniveling voice of Ashton the mutant shook within the remains of the wizard's tower.

'Come you wretch & be quick about it I have no wish to meet up with that pair of Martian scum this night' Shatock The Mad a wizard of no small power was poking around the ruins of what was once one of the wizard's guild fortresses that was along the Neo Calonian border.
'Bring the torch here you fool I think I have found what I seek' the words were spat out as much as said by the black wizard. He hovered over a particular pile of garbage and offal.
'Clear that bit there sniveling slave' with the command Aston cleared a particularly scummy pile of debris. He was confronted by the white skin & dead blue eyes of a young woman. The eyes rolled forward & regarded Ashton with pure hatred & malice born of centuries of suffering.
'What is this master? Will she turn me to stone?'
'No wretched coward that would have happened by now. Grab her by the wires, snakes, what passes for hair.'
'Set her on yonder table'
'As I live & breath a Medusae Mechanism, you have no idea how many centuries I have been looking for one such as you my dear.' Shatock The Mad spoke the words without any touch of irony.
'Now Ashton we must find out her name?!' The look of hatred seemed grow on the mechanism's face by degrees.
A legendary class of relic the head of the medusae automaton is unknown but there has been speculation that they once belonged to a twisted type of pleasure mechanism of the so called 'Ancient Ones'. These heads have been found all over the 'Old Solar System'. They are often mistaken for the heads of the mythological and quite deadly medusa species which is one of the reasons why these artifacts are often intact and operational.
Each head is actually a quite lethal and accurate weapons system of super science with 1d20 charges when found. The
head of medusae mechanism will sense through an almost supernatural quality when its owner wishes it to activate. The mouth will open, the eyes will come to life, & its interior oral cavity will fill with deadly laser energy. A bolt capable of doing 1d6 +3 points of damage will shoot out towards the target with a radius of thirty feet. The mechanism will briefly come to life for the split second it takes to eject its lethal ammo into its target. The mechanism is capable of firing three shots in rapid succession within a round. Creatures not normally capable of being affected by normal weapons will be hit & damage  by the laser energy of the medusae mechanism head.

There are further benefits to owning a mechanism head for each individual Medusae may still possess its living brain unit. The Medusae mechanism often served as personal secretaries & pleasure units to twisted black wizards of the wastelands of 'Old Earth'. They were privy to all kinds of black magick secrets & sometimes 1d6 black magick spells. A 'read technology' spell will unlock most of the simple secrets of these dangerous automatons. Because of their association with wizards of the most horrid stripe it is assumed that purges against these relics of super science and their masters were carried out.

In addition to the simple super science qualities that the Medusae Mechanism have, with the relic's proper name a magician or super scientist can unlock another strange quality of the artifacts. The mechanism may know the location of 1d10 caches of super science relics that their masters secreted away. With the application of their true names these mechanisms are compelled without trickery to give the locations of any such caches that they are privy too. These were some very sophisticated pieces of super science and they have lived for thousands of years in unliving torment and torture in a world that has literally passed them by. Those seeking the true names of these mechanisms will have a difficult task ahead of them. A quest to no less then five construct consultants and alchemists costing as much as 9,000 gold pieces must be undertaking to unlock such a true name. In addition there may be 1d30 additional secrets that the owner must ask about. These mechanisms are notoriously difficult to get to devulge any of their secrets even with the true names available. Each head is worth to a qualified wizard at least 800,000 gold pieces.

O lovely demon, half-divine!
Hemlock and hydromel and gall,
Honey and aconite and wine
Mingle to make that mouth of thine—

Thy mouth I love: but most of all
It is thy tears that I desire—
Thy tears, like fountain-drops that fall
In gardens red, Satanical;

Or like the tears of mist and fire,
Wept by the moon, that wizards use
To secret runes when they require
Some silver philter, sweet and dire.

'Skulls of the Far Travelers' Artifact For Your Old School Campaigns

'What is this thing master?!' Ashton the mutant's voice bordered on the low scale of grating & rose to a point of not quite but almost sniveling. He lifted the object d'art from its ancient resting place.
'Oh be careful with that you.' the statement had the tiredness of one whose used to but happy with the help or in this case
Shatock The Mad was simply tired from the journey into the ruins. It was sometime before the dawning triple suns.
'Its far heavier then it should be master'
'Hmm oh yes that's because its not entirely here old wretch'
Shatock The Mad was studying a piece of strange floor work. The details were a diagram of stars & planets.
'Why would we want an old skull with two metal balls in its eye sockets master? Its a gaudy and strange thing' 'It looks very dangerous?!'
'Of course its dangerous you wretch. Why do you think we're down in this ruin before dawn now bring it here'
, Shatock The Mad voice trailed a bit, there was no venom left in the old black wizard at this point only the jaded bits of personality that passed for his mind.
The mutant brought the artifact over to the wizard but then tripped on an odd bit of stone. Reality seemed to bend, fold, & break into tiny pieces around the horse skull like artifact.
'Well that was unexpect...' the voice trailed into infinity as the two fools were pulled by the artifact down corridors of the Outer Darkness.
'Mas..?'

'Skulls of the Far Travelers' are both relics of the ancients & objects of the 'Art' they were created sometime back before the Ancient Ones met their end. A wizard or artist simply known as 'He Who Wanders' created these objects & each one is made from living metal like stone in the shape of a horse skull. Why is unknown but speculation among certain groups of black wizards is because the skulls symbolize great journeys, & they are seen as spirit animals of freedom. Because that's exactly what The Skulls of the Far Travelers do. Each skull with the planet rise of certain planets & ancient stars can teleport the owner 1d20 light years toward a specific unknown location through the Outer Darkness. Writ throughout the interior of the skull are thousands of tiny alien symbols that form a sort of cosmic road map of the skulls comings & goings. Only a 'read magic' spell will begin to trickle some of the information from the skull. Each skull are individual objects & over the centuries have developed a sort of whimsical & dangerous spirit personality. They get passed from life form to life form via chance or circumstance gathering bits & bobs from each owner & hand they move through. Often this through games of chance or other forms of gambling.

The 'skulls of the far travelers ' are more then merely another relic of super science & sorcery for within each one is a spirit that holds the knowledge of the Ancient One's comings & goings across the stars. These skulls are keys to caches of forbidden knowledge & pieces of science long lost to modern wizards. Unlocking these secrets is more then merely knowing the proper names of these spirits. The owner must go where & when the skull takes him or her. Once per day the skull will teleport itself and its owner across the universe where the threads of fate need them. Or it could simply blink itself and its owner a mere two feet to the left or right by thirty feet. The sound of thundering hoof beats or the whinnying laughter of the spirit of the skull echoes into the nothingness of infinity. If used as a weapon they can teleport without error a target within a forty foot radius of line of sight 'away' from the owner. Only the Skull of the Far Traveler knows where the target has gone. Get it to tell the owner is another matter entirely.

The 'Skulls of the Far Traveler' are far more then they seem for these objects are also tools that can be used to unlock the dimensional gate systems of the 'Ancient Ones'. But to do this one must know the names of the spirits of the skull & parley with such spirits. They will be very unsettled & slightly dangerous for they have alien & very whimsical senses of humor. These spirits may send the owner into dangerous or unsettled areas of the 'Ancient Ones'. A simple ritual with a 'summon spirit' with the skull will invoke the spirit  of skull but the wizard must have his or her proper name & a damn good reason for invoking the spirit. These spirits have lived for thousands of years & have very weird personalities picked up over centuries of existence. If angered to the extreme they can gate in 1d6 demons or minor undead or even send the owner and 1d6 others into the Outer Darkness randomly. There will be 1d4 minor other magical abilities that the DM should generate from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide section on artifacts.
To merely begin to unravel the 'Skulls of the Far Traveler''s true names it will take 20,000 gold pieces & a read technology spell to start the process. Each skull is worth 130,000 gold pieces and they have been known to randomly teleport away if not treated well.

My hope is in the unharvestable deep
That shows with eve the treasure of the stars
To mournful kings behind their palace-bars,
And wanderers outworn, and boys who weep
A shattered bauble — or above the sleep
Of headsmen, and of men condemned to die,
Pours out the moon's white mercy from on high,
Or hides with clement gloom the hours that creep
    Like death-worms to the grave. . . . And I have ta'en
From storming seas by sunset glorified,
Or from the dawn of ashen wastes and wide,
Some light re-gathered from the lamps that wane,
And promise of a translunary Spain
Where loves forgone and forfeit dreams abide.

    O winds that pass uncomforted
Through all the peaceful meads of spring,
And tell the trees your sorrowing,
That they must mourn till ye are fled !

Think ye the Tyrian distance holds
The crystal of unbroken sleep ?
    That those forgetful purples keep
No veiled, contentious greens and golds ?

    Half with communicated grief,
Half that they are not free to pass
With you across the flickering grass,
Mourns each inclinèd bough and leaf.

    And I, with soul disquieted,
Shall find within the haunted spring
No peace, till your strange sorrowing
Is down the Tyrian distance fled.

Five Named Artifact Weapons For Your Old School Campaigns

M62

Each of these firearms has been painstakingly created from the bones and metals of the various demons and angels involved in the "Fall From Heaven". These firearms are often found within the armories of archdevils and various occult collectors of such things. Each one has been crafted from the finest metals, bones, and materials.
Each is a sterling example of a Colt 1911 fire arm and capable of taking out a minor godling, demon, or spirit with deadly accuracy. These weapons often seem to have minds of their own. Malevolent intelligence that whisper to their owners. Some are nasty and dangerous tools capable of leading their owners into situations of utmost danger. Often these firearms find their way into situations or pivotal moments of history. The ammo for these weapons is often made from the vary souls of the person or being using the weapons. Utmost care must be used when firing these weapons. They often carry a curse or streak of necrotic magic with them.
I have not used any game statistics so that they may be used in any game system.  Any angel or arch demon knowing that an adventurer who possesses such a weapon will be hunted down and their souls ripped from their vary bodies.

Five  Named Artifact Fire Arms
  1. Fatuaur The Devil's Pistol - This weapon has been created from the bones of a minor god of the old ones. This weapon is a black as a total eclipse and responds like a hot knife through butter. It is said that the weapon lusts for the blood of monsters and that it has a taste for families. The weapon has been know to misfire in the presence of siblings and if rumors are to be believed it has killed over 333 demons of the first order. The weapon is cursed with a blood lust and manufactures its own ammo from the dreams of regret of its owner. The weapon is embossed with glyphs of power of a forgotten and forbidden religion of Hell itself.
  2. Lkarangirn The Angel's Friend  - This weapon's slide and barrel have been created from the tears of a million angels and scoured in the rivers of Hell. The weapon is good and lawful mostly but has a frightening visage from a trapped angel within its frame. The pistol reacts to the presence of anything diabolic but often glows with murderous light when evil is present. The pistol has been known to shoot by itself and kill any sinners within its range. The thing purrs when it kills and often drives its owner into greater and greater dangerous situations to combat evil.
  3. Motharg- Created on the orders of the twelfth plane's of Hell. The thing was made from the straight razors of a tribe of demons.
