Here are the mechanics, checks, disarm methods, and challenge level (CL) scaling converted for the Castles & Crusades system (Siege Engine).

In C&C, saving throws and attribute checks use the SIEGE Engine:

$$\text{Target Number (TN)} = \text{Base Prime (12 or 18)} + \text{Challenge Level (CL)}$$

All rolls are $d20 + \text{Attribute Modifier} + \text{Level/HD}$.

#01: Chronal Loop Trap

A patch of fractured, glass-like air hanging suspended in time, reflecting echoes of events that haven't occurred yet.

  • Trigger: Crossing an astral or planar boundary into the affected 10 ft. space.

  • Detection & Identification:

    • Wisdom / Intelligence Check (CL 3): Spotting the optical refraction and time-lag in ambient air currents. Rogue Find Traps check applies.

  • Effect & Mechanics:

Upon triggering, the victim is snapped back to the exact physical position and mental state they occupied at the start of their previous round. They are forced to repeat the exact same actions, movement, spellcasting, or attacks made on that turn.

    • At the start of each subsequent turn, the victim must pass a Wisdom Save (CL 3) to break the loop and regain free agency.

    • On a failed save, they repeat their previous turn again, expending spell slots, charges, or arrows as appropriate.

  • Disarm & Countermeasures:

    • Dispel Magic: Cast against a base CL 5 automatically dissolves the temporal distortion.

    • Temporal Interference: Casting Haste, Slow, or Counterspell on the boundary disrupts the trap matrix for 1d6 turns.

    • Physical Bypass: Spells like Dimensional Anchor or spatial movement (Teleport) bypass the zone completely without triggering the loop.

  • Damage Scaling & Severity by Challenge Level (CL):

    • CL 1–4 (Low Tier): The chronal strain inflicts 2d8 points of damage (Wisdom Save halves) at the end of each repeated turn.

    • CL 5–9 (Mid Tier): Deals 4d10 points of damage per repeated turn. Failing the save by 5 or more drains 1 point of Constitution temporarily (restored after a full rest).

    • CL 10+ (High Tier): Deals 8d10 points of damage per repeated turn. Failing the save by 5 or more inflicts 1 level of permanent Energy Drain / Level Drain.

#13: Memory-Drain Vortex

A swirling vortex of thick, indigo fog that emits faint, whispering echoes of lost thoughts and stolen names.

  • Trigger: Moving within 15 feet of the vortex without an active warding spell (Mind Blank, Nondetection).

  • Detection & Identification:

    • Wisdom / Intelligence Check (CL 2): Hearing the faint, mournful whispering in the air before entering the area.

    • Rogue Traps Check (CL 4): Identifying the psychic haze and its epicenter.

  • Effect & Mechanics:

When triggered, the vortex exerts a powerful gravitational and psychic pull within a 20-foot radius.

    • All caught in range must pass a Strength Save against the vortex's CL or be dragged directly into the core.

    • Any creature starting its turn inside the mist must pass an Intelligence Save against the vortex's CL. On a failure, the vortex drains spell slots or class abilities, absorbing the mental energy to bolster its own physical form.

  • Disarm & Countermeasures:

    • Dispel Magic / Remove Curse: Requires an Prime check or caster check vs. the trap’s CL to break the vortex matrix.

    • Memory Substitution: Sacrificing a high-value spell scroll or written ledger of intense personal memories directly into the vortex overloads its core, causing it to collapse.

    • Wind Effects: Powerful wind spells (Gust of Wind) suppress the hazard for 1d4 rounds.

  • Scaling by Challenge Level (CL):

    • CL 2 (Levels 1–4):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 2) | INT Save (CL 2)

      • Resource Drain: Drains 1st-level spell slots or lowest available daily ability.

      • Damage & Vigor: Deals 2d6 Psychic damage per turn. The vortex gains 10 temporary Hit Points per drained spell level.

    • CL 5 (Levels 5–8):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 5) | INT Save (CL 5)

      • Resource Drain: Drains up to 3rd-level spell slots or 1 major class use (e.g., Turn Undead attempt, Smite).

      • Damage & Vigor: Deals 4d6 Psychic damage per turn. Vortex gains 20 temporary Hit Points per drained level.

    • CL 9 (Levels 9–12):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 9) | INT Save (CL 9)

      • Resource Drain: Drains up to 5th-level spell slots.

      • Damage & Vigor: Deals 8d6 Psychic damage per turn. Vortex gains 40 temporary Hit Points per drained level.

    • CL 13+ (Levels 13+):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 13) | INT Save (CL 13)

      • Resource Drain: Drains up to 7th-level spell slots. If the target has no spell slots left, it drains 1d2 points of Intelligence permanently (requires Heal or Restoration).

      • Damage & Vigor: Deals 12d6 Psychic damage per turn. Vortex gains 60 temporary Hit Points per drained level.

#88: Singularity Trap

A dense, pitch-black marble hovering silently in mid-air, bending light around its hyper-compressed core.

  • Trigger: Physical, kinetic, or vocal movement within 5 feet (walking past, firing a missile, or vocalizing spell casting components).

  • Detection & Identification:

    • Intelligence / Arcana Check (CL 5): Recognizing the gravitational distortion as an uncontained planar micro-singularity.

    • Wisdom Check (CL 2): Spotting dust and light bending toward a floating dark sphere.

  • Effect & Mechanics:

Upon activation, the marble collapses in on itself and expands into a 30-foot-radius sphere of absolute gravitational crushing force for 2 rounds before dissipating into the void.

    • The affected area acts as impassable / double-cost movement terrain.

    • Any creature within range at the start of its turn must make a Strength Save against the trap's CL. On a failure, it is dragged straight to the center point.

    • Creatures that end their turn within the inner core take severe crushing Force damage and are pinned/helpless against the event horizon.

  • Disarm & Countermeasures:

    • Dimensional Neutralization: Casting Banishment, Plane Shift, or Dimensional Anchor directly on the sphere routes the gravitational force into another plane safely.

    • Force Barriers: Casting Prismatic Wall or Globe of Invulnerability around the sphere completely dampens the pull.

    • Rogue Disarm: A Rogue attempting a Dismantle/Disable Trap check (CL 6) using specialized lead or adamantine tools can safely encase the marble without triggering it.

  • Damage Scaling by Challenge Level (CL):

    • CL 3 (Levels 1–4):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 3) | Radius: 15 ft. core / 30 ft. pull range

      • Damage: 4d10 Force damage per round spent in the core.

    • CL 6 (Levels 5–8):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 6) | Radius: 20 ft. core / 40 ft. pull range

      • Damage: 8d10 Force damage per round.

    • CL 10 (Levels 9–12):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 10) | Radius: 30 ft. core / 60 ft. pull range

      • Damage: 14d10 Force damage per round. Non-magical equipment caught in the core is crushed to dust.

    • CL 14+ (Levels 13+):

      • Saves: STR Save (CL 14) | Radius: 40 ft. core / 80 ft. pull range

      • Damage: 20d10 Force damage per round. Creatures reduced to 0 hit points by this damage are instantly crushed into non-existence (requires Resurrection or Wish to restore).
