I've been planning this Godbound/Cha'alt campaign in Las Vegas but I pulled out the Mayfair Demons II Box Set (Role Aids) by Kevin Hassall last night. These box sets are not at all rare per say but they have a lot of merit for use with old school games. But I was thinking about 'the technological singularity' & how it relates to Demons;
"The technological singularity (also, simply, the singularity)[1] is a hypothetical point in the future when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unfathomable changes to human civilization.[2][3]
According to the most popular version of the singularity hypothesis, called intelligence explosion, an upgradable intelligent agent (such as a computer running software-based artificial general intelligence) would enter a "runaway reaction" of self-improvement cycles, with each new and more intelligent generation appearing more and more rapidly, causing an intelligence explosion and resulting in a powerful superintelligence that would, qualitatively, far surpass all human intelligence.
The first use of the concept of a "singularity" in the technological context was John von Neumann.[4] Stanislaw Ulam reports a discussion with von Neumann "centered on the accelerating progress of technology and changes in the mode of human life, which gives the appearance of approaching some essential singularity in the history of the race beyond which human affairs, as we know them, could not continue".[5] Subsequent authors have echoed this viewpoint."
What happens when a plane Prime falls to the multiplicity of infinity evil of the Abyss? The stock & trade of demons, devils,daemons, etc. from Dungeons & Dragons is souls & those that have been processed by the various planes become Larva.
Larvae from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons first edition
Monster Manual
According to the Forgotten Realms Wiki entry ;
"Larvae, also called soul larvae,[3] were what remained of the souls of mortals corrupted by evil that were unclaimed by fiends via contract or otherwise. They were trapped in the Shadowfell or Hades to be captured by predators such as night hags, rakshasas or liches in order to be consumed or sold.[3][1]

Living mortals could also be transformed into larvae by prolonged exposure to the plane of Hades"
The appearance of Cha'alt's black pyramid in the desert surrounding Las Vegas has cracked open the doorways into the Abyss, & parts of Hades. What this has done has given the demonic worms & sand sirens of access to the souls of the damned. Its also put this Earth on the fast track to complete & utter destruction because of wizards having access to occult rites, rituals, & practices that could completely kick in the doors! So rather then this being a 'technological sigularity' its an 'occult singularity'!
Leading the charge into this are the hags & their covens of horrors who want nothing more then to reap the souls of the living & the dead.
The demons wait in the wings to pounce on humanity & drag humans off of the 'Vegas Strip'. The Judges of the Dead of the Beyond are working over time to prevent this & are trying to grab any adventurers & demi gods that they can to help end this situation as things get worse!
The black pyramid hums quietly to itself as its own gods lick their chops & begin to probe the surrounding countryside with their own forces!
Here & there half demons have begun to weed their way through the throngs of humans who are unaware (even though quite a few are starting to suspect the gravity of thier situation) as they go about their business in Vegas. Cults are operating on the fringes of society causing murder & mayhem. These cults are coming straight out of the Demon II box set!
I'm still gonna probably use a good chunk of Castles & Crusades Tome of the Unclean because it aligns nicely with Mayfair games Demons I & II box sets. Vegas has never looked so damned!
