I've gotten my hands on the Deviant Database 2.0 from the Savage After World Blog and the twisted mind of Tim Snider. This pdf clocks in at forty seven pages but this mutant monster book is kinda of a game change in a way. The Savage Afterworld has been quietly and patiently changing the face of post apclapytic old school gaming.
The blurb according the Saveage AfterWorld :
In this fiendish follow-up to the original Deviant Database, your players will meet 44 new twisted abominations lurking within The Savage AfterWorld!

• Gargantuan grotesqueries like the Bro’ding and Pangaea wander the ruined world like walking mountains and living islands!
• Analog assailants like the Computer Bug and Mechanobane are driven to rend and consume your robotic player characters!
• Hybrid humanoids like the Mako, Pwnees, and Clotted Ones welcome all visitors! (But will they allow them to ever leave?)

The Deviant Database 2.0 is fully compatible with Goblinoid Games'Mutant Future and Labyrinth Lord RPGs as well as other Original Edition Fantasy RPGs. The supplement is now available as a downloadable PDF for $3.95 at Drive Through RPG and in perfect-bound hardcopy book for $9.95 at Lulu.

The Deviant Data Base II is forty seven pages of not simply mutant monsters but adventure opportunities. Each creature has a backstory and can become the focus for an entire element of old school post apocalyptic adventure. The artwork is nice and compliments each monster nicely. Some of the creatures are almost perfect PA setting background themselves. Pieces of interest that can be used as the corner stones of a campaign to hold an adventure in place. Each description is well written and complete as well as concise.
These monsters can end a PC very nicely but they're more then that instead their mutant menaces that will confound and challenge a party.

For Your Old School Post Apocalyptic Campaigns

Within these forty seven pages are enough ammo to keep a game going for months to come. From the focus of an old school campaign to a complete night's encounter or adventure its pretty much all here.
There are enough mutant menaces to pepper a couple of campaigns in this one. But there's far more going here then simply another creature manual.
With a bit of creative DMing you could easily convert a few of these horrors into some very unexpected adventure focuses for Labyrinth Lord or a very odd as well as off beat fantasy campaign.
There are several creatures within this one that could be encountered aboard the Warden or as the focus for a far reaching solar colony science fantasy campaign.
On the whole several of the menaces are perfect technological terrors and will harass any android or cybernetic PC's as well as A.I. that a party might have.
Horrors  like the Computer Bug and Mechanobane are perfect mutant nasties to bedevil any military bases or technological ruins. There are more but I don't want to ruin the surprise that can be unleashed on your PC's. This collection of monsters could also be used as one shot monsters for an OSR game such as Lamentations of the Flame Princess or Basic Fantasy to great effect as well. This would be something that even experienced players would not be expecting.
The fact is that this a solid collection of very well thought out and extremely creative post apocalyptic  horrors waiting within the pages of this one.
This book could be thought of as an adventure ecological menace system and  not as simply as another Mutant Manual. With a bit of time and planning this incarnation of the Deviant Data Base II could be a classic on your hard drive or book shelf. A reference as a DM that you'll reach for again and again. Grab it, use it, and get your post apocalyptic groove on. Very well done book in my humble opinion and a welcome addition to my DM tool box!
Well done Mr. Snider and co.

  1. Thanks for the review and shout-out! DD 2.0 is going to be my Mutant Future "swan song" for the foreseeable future, as I have several other projects for several other RPGs that require my attention.

  2. Well I'm really sad to see that DD 2.0 is going to be your Mutant Future 'swan song' .. for now. That being said I do like the direction that you've taken the 'Crypt World' material Tim. Great stuff my friend. I'll be keeping a close eye on the Savage Afterworld to see what direction developments take with that system and other projects you've got on the back boiler my friend. Cheers
