Review Of Kort'thalis Publishing's 'Slippery When Wet' Adventure by Venger Satanis For The Alpha Blue Rpg

There are dark times in the galaxy when a bunch of outlaws & sleazoids are needed to take on the worst scum in the universe. This is the set up for Slippery When Wet an Alpha Blue rpg adventure which has a bit of everything from space battles to dungeon crawling. Here's the thing about Alpha Blue despite the silly/sleazy names in the adventure this is one that's tightly designed & well written. But I think that unless your ready for what Venger Satanis is trying to pull off this one isn't going to make a lot of sense unless your into the Eighties sci fi vibe of the  Alpha Blue universe.

This is the result of the highly successful kick starter for the Trinity of Awesomeness that Venger did back in October

Here's the low down on Slippery When Wet;"This is a 4- 5 page adventure of sleazy space opera action in the 23rd century.  After a large-scale assault, the PCs hitch a ride on an underwater vessel named the bearded clam.  Their destination is the undersea citadel Aqua Vulva. "

It's made for the Alpha Blue RPG, but will be usable with almost any sci-fi RPG of your choice.  Ever wanted to play in a universe akin to Ice Pirates, Flash Gordon, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Starchaser: The Legend of Orin, Space Balls, Heavy Metal, or some porn parody of Star Wars or Star Trek? "
So what's the party of adventurers in Slippery When Wet? Well a bit of gun running, double crosses, lots of space sex, and plenty of death if your players take some very dumb risks. Slippy When Wet clocks in at about fourteen pages & there's some great cartography by Glynn Seal of Monkey Blood design.

There is balance in the design work of the adventure & I don't really think that this is a beginning adventure for Alpha Blue rather this would actually be a good middle or connecting adventure for a party of experienced Alpha Blue players. Some of the menaces here are clearly very dangerous and could be retro fitted into some of the back adventures from the Alpha Blue product line. If you want to see what the Alpha Blue rpg is all about there's a clean version of the game with free quick start rules right here

Slippery When Wet adds in underwater elements to the Alpha Blue game and several minor factions to play as well. Some of these could be expanded upon to give even more nasty surprises to players as their time in the Alpha Blue universe gets underway. Several of the major Alpha Blue interstellar power blocks come on stage for the weirdness of this adventure. Remember this is an adult title so its not one for the kids!

Slippery When Wet could be used with Universal Exploits to be expanded into a full blown campaign with almost but not quite Italian Star Wars rip style weirdness throughout. This sort of an adventure is one of my favorites and my preferred way of running Alpha Blue has been with Crawljammer in the past.

These two game system really work well together & Alpha Blue's Slippery When Wet fits right into the background of Crawljammer. Given the free range of the material in Alpha Blue it fits into the Dungeon Crawl Classics fanzine ethos quite nicely. There are more then enough ways of exploiting this vibe to create fully detailed DCC funnels within the Alpha Blue universe but that's a blog entry for another time.

Do I think that Slippery When Wet is worth the price of admission? In a word yes because of the fact that so many of the Alpha Blue elements are on parade & its done with the bravado and sleazy weirdness that I've come to love from the game! Grab this one and get some friends together
to play in the interstellar strangeness of Alpha Blue

Commentary & Review Of A Green Jewel They Must Possess From Kort'thalis Publishing For The Outer Presence Rpg System & Your Old School Campaigns

Did you ever look at an adventure & think yeah there's something slightly off with that one. Yeah it makes you want to run it all the more.  This is one of those adventures, A Green Jewel They Must Possess is from the prolific mind of Venger Satanis.

Now is that time of year when you really need an adventure for a Saturday or Sunday night with the holidays coming up. Very few folks have the time to put something together on the spot, that's where our next adventure comes in."A Green Jewel They Must Possess" From  Kort'thalis Publishing   clocks in at about ten pages taking place in the Early Eighties and its mostly a back handed homage to the animated film Heavy Metal. I say mostly because its actually its own beast & really wallows in its own Eighties slime filled juices more on that in a moment.
"A Green Jewel They Must Possess" is about a compact an investigative adventure that a DM can get it clocks in at eleven pages and gets out of its own way in the first page establishing you relationship with the main protagonist in the first two minutes with a random table.
"It's Chicago in autumn, nineteen seventy-something. Ezra Jackson calls one of the investigators, asking to meet at a nearby restaurant in order to talk business. He sets the meeting for 5:00pm on a Tuesday. Ezra is about 30, medium height with a medium build, long brown hair, glasses, and wears a tan corduroy jacket with brown suede patches at the elbows. He's usually quiet unless he has something to say. Ezra is ambitious, but not at the expense of his friends. He became fascinated with the occult at a young age, but never went too far down the rabbit hole. Determine which of the following suggestions explain Ezra Jackson's relationship to each investigator."
The investigators or adventures meet at a local restaurant and things get weird as he sketches out the origins of the green artifact.
"Ezra Jackson has a little proposition for the investigators. Ezra heard about excavation in what is now Syria - a new temple was discovered by a team of Americans, buried underneath what was considered the oldest temple discovered - until now, that is. Within this temple, the archaeologists found a sphere made of an unknown material. After touching it, the sphere began to glow green.
After one of the archaeologists died under mysterious circumstances, the sphere was shipped back to America for study and eventual display. "Nothing like this has ever been seen or recorded, not  only in the Middle East but any ancient civilization on earth... this is truly a unique artifact!""

Yeah that's right this is actually an occult heist adventure rather then a standard occult investigation and that marks it as both different and well executed. The black market underbelly of artifact, archaeological, smuggling, theft, murder & crime isn't something that nice rpg's like to talk about but not this adventure. Your PC's are put smack into the cross hairs of the Lovecraftian rifle scope. This adventure takes place some very nefarious & dangerous NPC characters. Something that the Outer Presence rpg adventure also takes full advantage of.

So basically this puts "A Green Jewel They Must Possess" right into the rpg camp of Call of Cthulhu's Delta Green or Call of Cthulhu 's Eighties territory this isn't a bad thing at all. This adventure could serve as an introduction to a black market Delta Green or Call of Cthulhu campaign quite easily. The material is there to full advantage of any weird moves on the PC's part in this 'job' adventure but there is a heavy Lovecraftian or occult object here buts its not a red herring in this case. Don't forget this is a homage to the Eighty One Heavy Metal film, the green glowing artifact isn't a dead end, its a major plot element in this adventure & a very deadly one.

So now the big question that everyone was recently asking me about 'A Green Jewel they must Possess" can it be connected to Alpha Blue or Crimson Dragon Slayer? The answer is a very easy yes! In fact with very little work, the back drop of the story could be changed to another world and the same characters could be used as sleazy and dangerous space smugglers whom the PC's have to do a job for. That's the beauty of "A Jewel They Must Possess " its easily adaptable for all kinds of mayhem with the PC's. The background of the Heavy Metal film gives an easy in for the PC's.
What about the "Crimson Dragon Slayer" rpg system? Well, in point of fact given the post apocalyptic nature of the "Crimson Dragon Slayer" game and the fact that "No Escape From New York " came out last year. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to take that book & adapt in the events from "A Jewel They Must Possess" into that world quite easily. New York  after a short but calamitous global thermal nuclear war, the urban landscape became a burned-out wasteland of ruin and mutation. Survivors congregate in the city that never sleeps, making it their nightmarish playground… a shi*hole of degeneracy and wickedness. This sounds right for the events of the adventure. A combination of the two systems would be a thing of beauty using the events of "A Jewel They Must Possess" as the glue for a mini campaign. Taking it a step further because the world of Torth is always night  there will be a few minutes of dawn or dusk at odd intervals, but mostly it's constantly nocturnal - just the way they like it. If any of the players ask, tell them it's because of The Torth Effect'. And this is only the start of it, given the gonzo background of CDS. This is the sort of an adventure setting that PC's from Mutant Future, Labyrinth Lord, etc. or your favorite retroclone would be at home in. In point of fact "No Escape From New York City" could be used to act as a bridge gap into the world of Thule for your favorite OD&D or retroclone PC's. This means that an entire campaign could center around the "Earth of No Escape From New York" with "A Jewel They Must Possess" as the beginning  adventure. "The  Slaves of Tsathoggua" might possibly be the middle & finally "Slippy When Wet" could get them into the deep end of "Alpha Blue".

One of the nice things that the "Jewel They Must Possess" has is a table for continuing the events after the adventure is over with. This makes continued place not only possible but campaign events can be linked into the adventure's backdrop for extended play. Seems like a simple thing to do but many adventures miss doing this. On the whole I really really enjoyed this adventure, it does what it says on the tin and creates a really nice set up for a mini campaign in the world of the "Outer Presence". Not too shabby at all for a three dollar adventure. Five out of five stars in my opinion.

For The Love Of Tsathoggua - Venger Satanis's New Kickstarter Trinity of Awesomeness

 BACK IT RIGHT HERE

So when it comes to watching what's coming down the OSR or hobby track I'm possibly one of the late fans to the table except for some of my favorite OSR writers or designers. Venger Satanis is on my list for sure, there are three reasons for this his O5R material is weird, easily adaptable, he's prolific, & the man runs a tight Kickstarter. Now with the on coming birth of twins in the Satanis household he's on a bit of a crusade to get some incredible adventures out there. He's not got one adventure out there on Kickstarter he's got three;"3 short scenarios for old school RPGs by Venger Satanis: Slaves of Tsathoggua, A Green Jewel They Must Possess, and Slippery When Wet."
Each of these three adventures is connected with one of Kort'thalis Publishing's other O5R rpg's. Slaves of Tsathoggua is connected with and has been created for Crimson Dragon Slayer RPG, but would be suitable for any fantasy rule-set with a minimum of conversion.  This is a sort of dark science fantasy adventure with a real theme of 'what's in the cave'
I'm really digging on A Green Jewel They Must Possess which slots itself some place between a nightmare & the Heavy Metal movie from 1981. The basic premise is that a Loc Nar like jewel has been found & its worth a fortune & the adventure scratches the investigative Lovecraftian adventure itch. The basic plot goes something like this:" A glowing green sphere with spiritual powers has been discovered in Peru, but it's cursed because people keep dying.  Obviously, it's worth a fortune." This one is geared for 'The Outer Presence rpg crowd ie you Call of Cthulhu types.

Finally we get into the hard core element with a bit of the Alpha Blue vibe & 'The Slippery When Wet'. This is going to be a space romp with an Underwater theme ala several of those doomed under the ocean films of the Seventies seen through the Alpha Blue lens. The basic plot screams Alpha Blue in spades;"After a large-scale assault, the PCs hitch a ride on an underwater vessel named the bearded clam.  Their destination is the undersea citadel Aqua Vulva."
Personally I think that the world & the Alpha Blue rpg system need more adventures with the release of the two mammoth sourcebook/adventures Universal Exports & Girls Gone Rogue its time for a nice sleazy space opera to even things out in the universe of Alpha Blue.

So why are these adventures important? Well, besides the fact that the author/designer is actually supporting his own rpg product line with follow up adventures. This kickstarter is going to be the last we see of Venger until the Satanis twins appear in the world (congrats to the Satanis family btw), this means that we're getting three titles to unleash on our unsuspecting players. New material, new monsters, high weirdness, and all of the sleaziness you come to expect with a Kort'thalis Publishing product! So get in on this one and let's get those adventures unleashed on your unspecting players!

Review & Meditations On The 'Universal Exploits' O5R Adventure Resource Book By Venger Satanis For The Alpha Blue Rpg System & Your Old School Campaigns

Good morning I haven't been around since last night & woke up with 'Universal Exploits' sitting in my e-mail this morning. Well let's start at the top, Universal Exploits was clocked in at sixty pages on Venger Satanis's Kickstarter. Supposedly the Universal Exploits was going to be sixty pages;" So, what's going to be in the book?  Around 60 pages (8.5" x 11") of new adventure scenarios, technology, weapons, drugs, NPCs, adversaries, monsters, galactic factions, Federation sub-committees, a section on taxes, tariffs, and free trade, time travel, random tables galore, alternatives to temporary Health after sexual encounters, alien cities, and even more fleshy envelope-pushing artwork!"
Well what we've gotten is a one hundred and nine page book with lots of random PC tables, fully fleshed out adventures, wall to wall NPC's, a great Alpha Blue character sheet, &  fully detailed star ship plans by Monkey Blood Designs. Oh and about that fleshy envelop pushing artwork its there.

This book is possibly going to be one of those essential books & tool kits for the Alpha Blue rpg system. Universal Exploits takes the Venger Satanis random tables as optional PC generation tool & turns it up eleven. Right at the beginning of the book we get alternative ship to ship combat rules, optional damage rules, the some tables on cyro sleep suspension effects, xenophobia table for when PC's and PC's meet, optional unarmed combat charts, optional PC stacking for abilities, instant background tables, optional campaign set up for harder or softer space opera campaign setting tables, reasons for joining the revolution for PC background, prior PC/NPC relationships tables, alien language table, PC planet origin table, random traveling times, the blue effect ( Alpha Blue style warping of the mind), random horror in space table element table, and then things start to get busy.

We get a brand new PC type in the form of clones. Yes that's right clones because back in the 1970's cloning was all of the rage & it gives players another option to bring back or resurrect dead or  destroyed biological characters. This is one of those science fiction tropes with lots of implications for Alpha Blue campaign play. And then tucked right into the middle of lots of  T&A artwork is a set of  serious interstellar domain management rules that actually seem to work along with sources of power. Then there's a straight up piece of porn artwork on the same page that has to remind us that this is an over top sleazy Seventies porn parody rpg. We get random leadership tables followed by rules for cock blocking; yes I said rules for cock blocking. Given the 'over the top' sex parody nature of Alpha Blue these are not a surprising addition to the game.  Then random detention block NPC tables, along with what Federation officer is looking for tables, and all of this is rounded out by random cargoes & side jobs for your spacers. We get random 'job benefits and perks'  tables of course these include sexual encounters cue Eighties porno music here. Telepathic rules which adds that bit of extra to the Alpha Blue game ( illustration of a girl wanking here). Then we get into some solid drug and a random over dose table which for an Seventies & Eighties porn parody sci fi game is a must.

There's some artwork which breaks up the sections in Universal Exploits & its not a bad way of handling the various sections of the book. Just in case I haven't mentioned it, Universal Exploits actually has a fully laid out index that cross references everything in the book and this is one busy book as we shall see. We get an adventure/NPC location that we can drop right into the middle of an Alpha Blue game & its a place that's needed;"Revan 111 is a space station devoted to peace in the Ustrata galaxy, though it occasionally wanders outside Ustrata into neighboring galaxies. Hanging at the central corridor between a wild assortment of alien factions on a thousand different worlds, Revan 111 is a sanctuary, safe haven, and last refuge for the dispossessed, disenfranchised, revolutionaries, activists, libertarians, ordinary space scum, and all those beings with a reason to hide."
You see Revan 111 is a place with secrets, NPC's with hidden agendas, and a space station swimming with all kinds of trouble waiting to grab your PC's by the throat and haul them into a side adventure they never wanted. A few random tables breath life into Revan 111 & its a solid adventure location to drag & drop into a game of Alpha Blue. We get two tables that work really well for Alpha Blue for NPC's one is the cultural bias table and the after party table. The after party table is perfect for PC's who stumble into a party they shouldn't have. Then we get into random tables for generating religious orders and NPC figures. Followed by more random motives for NPC spacers.
A brief outline and structure rules for running & constructing adventures in Alpha Blue is next which slides into the Universal Exploits adventure set up and the big bad 'the Federation' According to Universal Exploits;"In this book, Universal Exploits, one enemy takes center stage - the Federation! It's an oppressive, corrupt regime, ever growing and always grasping for more and more power. The Federation is a foreboding oligarchy consisting of the ultra-wealthy, bureaucrats, noble houses, assassination guilds, telepaths, zedis, and the military industrial complex. The Federation crushes resistance wherever it sees it… and the Federation believes the seeds of revolution are everywhere" A basic take off on 'Star Wars Empire' with shades of other space opera governments. The whole adventure centers around :"a shipment of Purple Prizm 36 hour ago, but it never arrived. That wouldn't be so bad, but the previous shipment also never made it to the Q'tha homeworld. Neither of them is sure who was supposed to deliver the refreshing and hallucinogenic grape drink, except for the company's name - Sun Belt Distribution." Scattered through out the Universal Exploits book are advertisements for Purple Prizm with really pornographic European style artwork. Its a similar style to many of the West End Star Wars rpg adverts from way back in the 90's but much raunchier. I don't want to give the whole thing away but Universal Exploits parodies the Cola Wars from the Eighties, lots of sci fi show references and in jokes, and generally doesn't take itself seriously for an instant. This isn't a bad thing because of the very nature of the Alpha Blue Game.

Then finally we get another adventure in the form of Pussy Chasers The Legend of Oral along with some other adventure locations. Even as part of the Universal Exploits adventure we get another adventure setting location in the form of the 'Red Hologram District'; "a red hologram district (or RHD) can expect an eyeful of prostitutes, pimps, drug pushers, thugs, gangsters, dope fiends, tattoo artists, strippers,
contraband merchants, and slimy run-down theaters with sticky floors that play exploitation and grindhouse
favorites such as Vanessa Swallows the Star Beast Whole, Space Dogs from Reservoir Gore, and Anal Blasters come for Princess Sex Candy part 5!" And yes there is another table for what happens in the red hologram district'.
There are several parodies elements mixed into this adventure referencing Star Trek, Star Wars, Flash Gordon, the Buck Rogers television show along with Grabba the Butt's Pleasure Palace. This is an adventure location unto itself with random motives tables for Grabba & random NPC generation tables. Finally there are a series of Land Rush tables, these are actually really useful. According to Venger; "This is a bit of an afterthought, but I wanted to include a series of random tables for determining the nature of certain territories - planets, planetoids, moons, asteroids, space islands, and even entire systems." Well here's the thing these land rush tables slide right into the domain rules for Alpha Blue. They add a nice little bit of useful DM material to Alpha Blue and another dimension to the game.  Finally we get maps and diagrams by Glynn Seal of Monkey Blood Designs of the UX Star Bird, The Milk Shake class star ship( great PC ship btw), and Grabba's Palace.

Universal Exploits is an essential book about as essential to the Alpha Blue rpg system as the Girls Gone Rogue book perhaps more so. This is a very busy rpg book that crams lots and lots options into itself. This book is part rules option book for Alpha Blue, adventure resource book, random table book, finally adventure book with several optional adventure locations, and the added resource of domain level play. The fact is that a professional editor could have paired this book in places & took a far more steady hand with it. Universal Exploits is perhaps one of the best books I've seen the Alpha Blue but it could have been even more fantastic. The problem is that the book is too busy & it tries to cover far too much material in the Alpha Blue Rpg system. Even with that said I'd say I think that Venger Satanis gives his buyers, audience & backers their money's worth! Universal Exploits has tons of material to work with for adventure construction for Alpha Blue and actual on the table play. There's enough material in 'Universal Exploits' that could easily be ported over into any OSR style science fiction game for even more sci fi fantasy awesomeness. Four out of five stars for the Universal Exploits book! Grab this one when it comes out!

Meditations On The Universal Exploits Kickstarter By Venger Satanis For The Alpha Blue Rpg System

Something has been bothering me about Alpha Blue for a long while now; now its not the over the top adult content, the off colour humor, or the ridiculously weird adventure plot lines. But today was one of those days where I had to visit the New Hartford transfer station and take a whole load of material there and for a while something about the new Kickstarter for Universal Exploits has been bothering me.  Its the cosmic horror of it, many sci fi adventure rpg put the PC's front and center for the action. According to Venger;"Alpha Blue was directly inspired by such films as Ice Pirates, Flash Gordon, Barbarella, the aforementioned Starchaser, and stuff like The Satisfiers of Alpha Blue, Flesh Gordon, Star Babes, Sex Wars, and other various porn parodies of science-fiction classics."

Accept that doesn't do that at all instead the plot takes the ideas of intergalactic sexual politics and turns it into a running adventure commentary from the Absurdist school of philosophy with a good deal of Venger's patented weirdness thrown into the mix; "
Pussy Chasers: The Legend of Oral starts with a rag-tag crew of spacers (the PCs) living in an parallel universe where the repressives won the war of sexual politics.  This is a universe where the women are frigid and fully clothed and the men are timid and socially inept.  Sex only happens rarely, in bed, with the lights out... and for no other reason than procreation.
However, a mad scientist and political radical friend of yours has been tracking sub-quantum energy waves through the nova field.  That lead to the discovery of this alternate universe containing (among other things) an enchanted star-blade, as if the Space Gods had forged their divine will into an omnipotent phallus.
This magnificent universe is unlike the one you're used to.  It's a place where the average spacer can get the fellatio and/or cunnilingus he or she really, really wants - and for only a fistful of credits!
However, just as soon as you arrived, an armada of battle cruisers outfitted with nutronic missiles was dispatched from the sex-poor universe.  They want you back, to stand before the Inter-Galactic Sex Crimes Tribunal.  Most likely you'll be executed for chasing pussy and oral sex (are the legends true... can such things really be found?).  Only the crystalline laser sword known as Kort'thalis can unite those repressed galaxies against totalitarian celibacy.  Long live the revolution!"

But in actual essence Universal Exploits isn't about any of that at all; a recent play test of Universal Exploits by Venger and co. up points a very interesting fact about his supposed over the top parody. All of the PC's in his test game are in fact just a bunch of working class slobs trying to make it against the back drop of a series of strangely twisted settings in a very dangerously uncaring universe. This is very similiar to certain concepts embodied in Lovecraft and others of his circle. Its a strange mix of the over the top humor that hides some very dark truths inside itself.
I'm reminded at once of Eugene Thacker 's work and some of the themes of Rick and Morty "Thacker distinguishes the "world-for-us" (the human-centric view of the world), and the "world-in-itself" (the world as it exists in essence), from what he calls the "world-without-us": "the world-without-us lies somewhere in between, in a nebulous zone that is at once impersonal and horrific." It is 'the world without us' that almost seems to be the stage for the offerings of Alpha Blue. Many of the over the top antics of the adventurers of Alpha Blue are not going to make a hell of a lot of difference to the greater schemes of the various factions of the adventure setting. This isn't a bad thing at all, it basically means that any of the over the the top weird antics of the PC's are not going to break the setting. It also puts the sexual politics of the Universal Exploits into a very weird and somewhat twisted back space. The soul crushing mediocrity of most intergalactic life would crush many weaker souls but your PC's are made of far sterner stuff then that. Because its a really weird universe out there and your going to screw whatever moves to prove it.

There is something inherently twisted about Alpha Blue because not only are the adventurers struggling to work against the ever increasingly dangerous and horrid backdrop of the uncaring universe. They're doing their best to use every trick in the book including using their bodies to get ahead of the curve of the sexual politic and the savagery of the setting. Once again here's Thacker's work and how it fits into the dialetic of Alpha Blue;"Thacker's work has often been associated with contemporary philosophies of nihilism and pessimism, as well as to speculative realism. His text "Cosmic Pessimism" defines pessimism as "the philosophical form of disenchantment."[5] The text begins with the following line: "Pessimism is the night-side of thought, a melodrama of the futility of the brain, a poetry written in the graveyard of philosophy.""
Basically this means that while Alpha Blue plays at being an over the top humor filled parody there are some really disturbingly weird things going on just below the surface of the game's setting. This isn't a bad thing at all, there's been tons of games with similar sci fi settings. There are places in the sci fi rpg universe that I love to game in but would never want to live in. Both Traveler and Star Frontiers come to mind here but why? Well because each and every adventurer is going to be desperate, dangerous, and out for the perfect score in each and every way possible. So much so that its built right into the back pattern of the game. If you don't believe me check out the Kickstarter video.

So what is all this going to mean for your PC's in Alpha Blue? Well it means that your going to be encountering some truly weird and rather nasty characters aboard Alpha Blue and the edges of the various universes. Here's my take on some of these alien and weird sci fi desperadoes and outlaws of the space ways.

1d6 Alpha Blue Rpg Random Sleazy Adventurer Patron Employer NPC's Table For Your Old School Space Campaign

Alpha Blue is a dynamic and weird space going brothel roaming from system to system always on the move for more business, stock & trade, and a place where adventure seems to find you regardless of what you might want. There are movers and shakers in the interstellar shadows who are always looking for raw talent and in need of skilled hands to employ. Perhaps they are drawn by the aura of lust and desperation of the place or the sheer lawlessness of Alpha Blue or maybe their simply horny bastards. But no one gets to close to check he has a brace of space frog warrior body guards who do his bidding through his telepathic commands. He has more then vaguely disturbing voice that sounds like a demented Mr.Rogers jacked up on too much helium. Nax to his friends can grant clerical spells of a very twisted nature once per day. 2. Hands Drafus The Lonely Traveler - He has been around for 12 billion years and he is a being of great power who is found in the remote gambling dens of Alpha Blue with nine perfectly formed lady androids who carry out his every wish. 3. Leirla The Many Lobed Thing - One part Lovecraftian horror and one part alien sex goddess this weird alien goddess sits at the bars of Alpha Blue feeding from the sexual energies of the aura of Alpha. Not all of these clients are even remotely human. She also collects the manhoods and brains of particularly choice warriors.

Review & Commentary On Girls Gone Rogue For The Alpha Blue Rpg From Kort'thalis Publishing As Well As Your Old School Space Operas

Kort'thalis Publishing  sent me a complimentary copy of Girls Gone Rogue last night. I haven't spoken of the book since the Kickstarter ended. So colour me curious about what the actual erotic space opera pdf is like? Well according to the Kickstarter blurb;"Girls Gone Rogue will be somewhere around 50 pages and will contain more tables for character, setting, and story creation to help Space Dungeon Masters manage their universe.  [I just finished writing a d100 table called Peculiarities of Female NPCs based upon my love of Seinfeld and gratuitous dating experiences]" Yes that table is in there but the actual pdf clocks in at around eighty freaking pages of O5R Alpha Blue gaming material. Seriously this book is packed with wall to wall space opera goodness for DM's, players and they're PC's. I have a few tables in this book but that won't affect my opinion one way or the other.
GRAB IT RIGHT HERE

Warning there is wall to wall erotic space art which is not work or kid safe. Seriously folks this isn't for the little ones or panty waists.

THIS IS NOT A BOOK FOR THE KIDS

This isn't just an adventure instead its an Alpha Blue sourcebook with an adventure wrapped in between its folds. Girls Gone Rogue presents random chart after random chart that can add not only that extra ounce of weirdness to a PC.But some really weird bits of erotic oddness and adult themed characteristics to a character sheet especially from the FETISHES  The Sexual Fantasy and Fetish table. Don't let that fool you at all. This isn't F.A.T.A.L. and in fact it isn't even trying to be. The book is up to the quality of Alpha Blue and surpasses it in places.
There is a Jedi Knight PC parody class called the Zedi knights and all that goes with it. Brand new PC options and arch types. Some damn fine sci fi artwork scattered throughout. Tons of tables for what your adventurers did between adventures.Even more tables of finds, weapons, sexual hang ups, psychological additions, NPC and PC options. Even more NPC's, tons of other folks to meet,  etc. There's a section on using Alpha Blue to emulate a sci-fi spaghetti western. I can see an Alpha Blue/Boot Hill mash up in my future at some point. There are planetary generation tables for the game. And even a complete ship to ship combat system is included and it looks damn workable from what I've seen and read. So is there an actual adventure in all of this hot sweaty space opera mess?
As a matter of fact there is and then some.  The Girl Gone Rogue is actually very nasty piece of work called Ilsa SS."Ilsa SS is the name of a slut series replicant that has gone haywire, screwing and blasting her way through the galaxy. Normally, that kind of thing wouldn't be a Priority One on the Federation wave wire. However, Ilsa SS has taken out a number of key Federation assets and politicos. The Federation is hiring an expendable team of spacer rejects to retire her ass with extreme prejudice."  The PC's are roped into tracking and 'retiring' the android but not all is as it seems. There are even more random tables to make this adventure slightly different each and every time it's played. The infamous Bobba Fat is right in the center of the action and there's room for expansion. Scattered throughout the adventure are references to each and every sci fi franchise and movie that Venger could parody and  get a hold of from popculture. I was laughing hard identifying all of them. Throughout the book there is a ton of material to scavenge for other games. This isn't simply one adventure but there is an expansion of at least five different pieces of campaign setting stuff for any old school sci fi space opera or fantasy. There are literally months of campaign material here with lots of penis, ovipositors and tentacle action happening in the background. The artwork is both erotic, jarring, full on and very well done for the book. The artists did a bang up job on Girls Gone Rogue.

There's at least three or four send ups of Jason of Star Command, Dune, Star Trek, Space Balls, Star Wars, Outland, and much more but all of this is fueled down and through the raunchy and riotous Alpha Blue lens. The PC's are squeezed right into the background of all the action, twisted around, and spit out into a campaign that they're going to be movers, shakers, or victims of when all is said and done. Now I've got to say something about the maps, diagrams, and what have you. These things are fantastic, the artwork is really well done and they're included free as part of the online expansion and support for Girls Gone Rogue.

Yes I totally stole these pictures from Venger's blog to illustrate what can be done with free maps and locations.

So the bottom line on Girls Gone Rogue? Is it worth the ten dollars that the PDF is selling for? I can honestly say that if rated X artwork and tendril sex doesn't put you off that this is a truly worth a look. I can see this book being used as a port over for a White Star game or a not so serious romp through Alpha Blue. This book expands and blows the Alpha Blue universe wide open for even more adventures.  Five out of five and I wasn't expecting to have as much of a positive reaction to it as I did.  Grab the pdf today, I'm going to be waiting for the new print on demand book when it hits.

New Free Starship Maps From 'The Girls Gone Rogue' Kickstarter By Venger Satanis & A New Alien Race Plus D6 Random Space Adventurer Encounter Table For Your Old School Campaigns

So in case you haven't heard Venger Satanis has a brand new Kickstarter for his O5R space brothel/Rpg system Alpha Blue. It's really hard to pin down what Alpha Blue is like, its a space opera campaign with 'R' rated elements. Sure its gratuitous for its own sake but in a VHS Eighties sci fi rental setting way, the system is simple, easy, and rather intuitive in its own right. Now there's a brand new adventure that is easily adaptable to not only Alpha Blue but any old school space opera called 'Girls Gone Rogue'.  The adventure's plot puts our adventurers at odds with some very dangerous and sleazy interstellar movers & shakers. According to the Kickstarter the plot goes something like this; "Basically, a sex-bot by the name of Ilsa SS has gone berserk and is killing high-ranking officials of the Federation.  PCs are "persuaded" to seek and destroy her.  Everything else flows from there or is some kind of unrelated side-adventure."

YOU CAN HELP SUPPORT GIRLS GONE GONE ROGUE  & GRAB THE STAR SHIP MAPS HERE

Now there's a brand new set of free plans for a space cantina  and a brand new space craft called the Sunfish. According to Glynn over at Monkey Blood Designs ;"The silhouette shows the comparison on the new Sunfish Class freighter against the penile-shaped Flamingo Class freighter (see Alpha Blue).
The Sunfish Class deckplan will have a 300dpi 34x22" version file, as well as double-page spread in the book too." But now the Alpha Blue design crew is offering free downloads of these ships to stir interest in the Girls Gone Rogue adventure Kickstarter.

What makes these really nice is the fact that they can in fact be added right into ANY old school space opera. That also means that Alpha Blue can easily be converted to your favorite old school retro clone space opera system. You as the DM could set the tone and level of erotism that you want as in none at all if your audience wants. But is this Kickstarter worth it to support? I think so. I know Venger's gaming materials and was surprised at the page count when my copy arrived. The game is crammed with lots of useful bits and pieces that can easily be converted over to your favorite space opera retroclone or played by itself. The game is pretty damn tight on its own.
Here's the feel of what the Alpha Blue author and crew is going for; "
Girls Gone Rogue will be somewhere around 50 pages and will contain more tables for character, setting, and story creation to help Space Dungeon Masters manage their universe.  [I just finished writing a d100 table called Peculiarities of Female NPCs based upon my love of Seinfeld and gratuitous dating experiences]
But most importantly, GGR will contain several scenarios, some longer, some shorter, that will allow for months of sci-fi campaigning.  Specifically, these adventures will be influenced by Firefly/Serenity, Blade Runner, Escape From New York,  Star Wars, and many more!"

One location and adventure element has me serious intrigued and that's Boba Fatt's junk yard, the art for this location has me wondering about it. Space junk yards are the perfect location to get NPC's and players at cross purposes especially when it comes to space ship part that an adventurer needs. There is one vile race that haunts the space junk yards around the Zeta 9 clusters and is always found on Alpha Blue..
The Urughiboggor
the Urughiboggor whose names sounds like a venereal disease and they are hated by human and semi humanoid races across the planes. These mutated highly evolved bastards are a scourge on the interstellar scene. They are alien terrors that have the minds of a mad scientists and the sex drive of a dog in heat. They don't have the sex organs to match fortunately but they make up for it by creating high end sex toy android hybrids. They steal entire swaths of humanoid populations for their twisted agendas and often engage in highly complex schemes to get their ways. Each and every drive of these freak's society is geared towards and around the pursuit of sex in some fashion. These beings are completely amoral and haunt space junk yards in search of rare space craft and robotic parts for their latest twisted sex bot or android. Nine times out of ten they will be piloting these twisted super science creations. On Alpha Blue they are often employed as technicians and scientists for the repair of certain advanced systems aboard the space brothel. They are paid in parts, favors and things better left not  described. They have been known to serve the twisted and jaded palettes of the royals on Thule as well and from time to time pilot highly dangerous 2nd level fighter bots with heavy stunners built into their creations.

Size/Type: Small (Space Dwarf size)/Alien
# Appearing: Solitary
Health: 27 [Level 1]
Armor: 2
Dice Pool: 3d6/3d6
Special Attack: Heavy Stun From Bot, blaster or wand
Note that they consider any and all humanoid species to be parts and pieces of some future twisted high end super science device or robot.

Another facet of the Alpha Blue rpg is the number of opportunities for adventurers to run across the path other sleazoid space adventurers. True blue heroes are hard to find but the desperate and dangerous spacers always seem to follow in the wake of Alpha Blue. Here are some of the 1d20 space adventurer NPC's you might run into.

1d20 Desperate Space Adventurers
and Outlaws Table

  1. Teig-nihu crew of 1d8 space dwarves who are looking for the next big score after their asteroid mining wind fall ran out at the gambling tables on Alpha Blue. Armed and very dangerous crew of cut throat bastards.
  2. Sex starved mutant space pirates looking to score an easy ship full of loot. They ride the space winds in the Violet Cutter a fast and capable ship armed to the teeth.
  3. A crew of half dead humanoid warriors whose captain was killed by loan sharks aboard Alpha Blue, these bastards are looking for a few quick victims.

They heard rumors she was aboard Alpha Blue but to no avail. Any attractive female or male humanoids might be candidates for this?!?
