Gamer Porn - Post Apocalyptic Unpacking - Unpacking The Mutant Epoch Rpg

When it comes to post apocalyptic gaming I'm pretty much open to just about anything. For months I've been lusting after the 'Mutant Epoch rpg' line. The game is a sort of updated modern version of some of the usual tropes of Post apocalyptic gaming with quite a bit of DYI character creation. You can find out more about it  HERE . I ordered the line from Noble Knight Games and one thing I can say is that they actually pack their games well.

There were a few other OSR gaming products stuck in there as well. Those will get reviewed over  the next couple of days.
Most of the Mutant Epoch line is easily adapted and convertible over to Mutant Future or Gamma World. With a bit of work the games can be worked into a Metamorphosis Alpha first edition campaign. One thing about the line is that its set up for solo play. A DM can easily learn the rules and game at the same time. Tunnels and Trolls has a similar set up.
Can't wait to dive in and check these out!
Pitford looks really very interesting but man its a dense book. The maps are well thought out as well.
My preference for Post Apocalyptic gaming remains the Goblinoid Games Mutant Future rpg. There are solid reasons for this. The game easily converts between Labyrinth Lord basic and advanced enabling me to utilize  Mutant Future with 90% plus of the fantasy and science fiction retroclones on the market.
The deadly Mall of Doom! I've got players asking about this one.
This is the entire run of Excavator Magazine in one handsome package.
 This looks really well done!
The best part however is that the packing material doubles as a cat toy for hours of additional fun!

My next purchase is going to be the Psychedelic Fantasies line by Geoffrey McKinney of Carcosa fame. It may have to wait a few weeks but I'm liking what I'm reading about his line's adventures right over

More Old School goodness in the morning!

  1. I wish I had the time to do more with _Mutant Epoch_. I like the "grit" of the setting, and the character creation is fun.

Just not enough hours in the day, man.

  2. I've just acquired Mutant Epoch and the setting is damn gritty. Its also detailed as all heck. I find it a bit more accessible then the classic 'Darwin's World' and the character creation is a blast.
That being said, I'm using it as fodder for Mutant Future adventures which I find a heck of a lot more easier to deal with. The character creation is perfect for creating highly detailed NPCs in a snap.
Because the material is so detailed I've been taking my time with the books. I blame the Green Skeleton gaming blog for my Mutant Epoch dilemma at the moment in a good way. ;-)
    More coming up!
    Thanks for the comment Justin!

  4. I'm very happy with the game and its pretty OSR in its approach to character creation. I enjoy the hell out of it. I'm raiding bits and pieces for my Mutant Future games however.
Yet I've been quietly in the background working on a campaign for Mutant Epoch as well. So thanks for turning me on to the game in the first place and now let's see what I can do.
