I took a gamble last night with my Stars Without Number's game.. I've been introducing lots of 1930s science fiction alien races, ships, devices, etc. to the game with a mix of some grind house '70s science fiction action all set to the backdrop of the SWN system.
The whole thing has worked out rather well. Tonight I went all out by tapping some really cool elements from from past campaigns to see if this would work. The players loved it..
The USS Thumis is a 300 year old transport/tug that was hauling FTL communications gear to the colony world of Miri II. The Tumis is owned by Allard Technologies(Allard Technologies is from Here See Storm Haven ) which is small independent outfit out of the Corporate sector. For the pass 10 plus years they've been buying hulls from the Stonebacks of the former Federation. A grand experiment that went bust during the First Empire Expansion.
Allard has been doing high risk & high profit salvage & engineering jobs. Small scale terraforming, FTL signal boost, civil engineering jobs, some asteroid mining, retro technology recovery & reverse engineering, & any other small scale jobs that they can get.
They've been active within the Talon Sector for well over 100 years now. They have a bad reputation for helping smaller independent colony worlds.
This has brought them to blows with Apex Medical. Apex is a gigantic bio medical firm with its paws in all kinds of nastiness. They view several worlds within the Talon sector as valuable resources. This has brought them in conflict with Allard several times.
Appex has a history with the PCs two of my PCs are psychics. They escaped from Apex facilities. Apex is tightening its grip on Allard.
Miri II is a 1970s technology world with several large cities. An active terraforming industrial manufacturing base & whose infrastructure is being updated to current Galactic standards.
That was 3 months ago Einstein Time. The Stonebacks are worried about their investment & have contacted an Allard Representative.
They're sending an investigation team & want the PCs to join them as consultants under independent contract.
Digging by the PCs into several contacts with Appex in the past 3 months has yielded the fact that that Martian Pirates have been working under charter for Appex. Several of those encounters have been with ships that were carrying type 4,6, 7,technology artifacts.
Since Appex Medical is involved the PCs are in & now on their way to Miri II.

ReplyDeleteThanks Trey! I'm trying to ride the line here with some of this stuff..I'd say this was actually the first session that felt like everyone was comfortable with SWN. I really wanted to add something of a nod to the older stuff that we've run in the past there's more to come!
