Weird Wednesday -Event Horizon & More

This isn't a nice film or even a comfortable film, this is film about how a horror film should be done in a space setting. The film depicts events aboard the Event Horizon which has taken a trip outside of normal time & space. According to Wiki -In the year 2047 a group of astronauts are sent to investigate and salvage the long lost starship "Event Horizon". The ship disappeared mysteriously 7 years before on its maiden voyage and with its return comes even more mystery as the crew of the "Lewis and Clark" discover the real truth behind its disappearance and something even more terrifying.
When I saw this film in the theater it scared the crap out of me. I won't watch it even now during the evening. Some folks I know have watched it once & won't watch it again. Other horror fans swear its simply one of the dumbest movies they've seen.
However It has inspired this monster for my Human Space Empires game.

Inspired by this company's work Here
They have been called the Hierophants, The Surgeons, & countless other names. They are summoned by the 6th level super science power -Call Inter planar Demon. The creatures will have 1d8+8 hit dice. Surgeons all have horrific mutilations and/or body piercings, and wear fetishistic black leather clothing that often resembles butchery garments or religious vestments. These demons practice, with a religious devotion, a supernatural form of hedonism, manifested through the expansion of sensation to an extremely painful point of sensory overload, and enduring excruciating pain through incessant tortures that transcend traditional laws of physics.
First discovered by the scientist Dr. Hans Reinhardt who did some of the first pioneering work  in planar demonology. These creatures have played marry havoc when summoned & works often make reference to the mutilations they perform on their unfortunate victims as well as their own bodies. They may enter our plane on Earth's reality only through a schism in time and space, their world has been described as a most unpleasant parallel dimension. A place of primeval pleasure/suffering beyond any experience.
They always show up with between 1-5 individuals all armed with their tools waiting to start work on the supplicant.

A several special devices may be used to add in the use of the super science power- Call Inter planar Demon.  The so called Judge's box is were the user takes six solor mirrors, you can use any size, but the other mirrors must be of the same size, then, you form a cube with the mirrors
The box adds in the summoning of the surgeons easily calling them from their domain, there is a 1d6 chance the Surgeons will be summoned from a long-lost world and might be quite displeased.
While their tools very most do  1d8 points of damage & leave jagged , ragged holes  for wounds behind . Many of these wounds may only be healed with super science or powers

All surgeon's tools act as super science weapons, often depending upon their status within the pecking of their home dimension some may be immune to some energy weapons.
The opposite of the summon planar demon ability may be used to banish the surgeons. The influence of the surgeons can be felt across the cosmos & such cultures  Often use their gifts for reshaping flesh to join their ranks  Here & there across the universe strange ruins can be found which bare their mark. These strange twisted geometric structures should be avoided. Some are still active & can summon these strange planar beings often times quite by accident

  1. This is honestly the single scariest movie I've ever seen in my life, and I am a horror movie buff. I've seen all the greats, not-so-greats, and obscurities, with few exceptions. This is the only movie that I've ever watched that still makes my skin crawl every time I think about it. I never made it through it the second time. I've thought about trying to watch this sucker again, and I've not been able to convince myself. This S.O.B. gave me nightmares.

  2. Its not one my regular viewing rotation by any means but get this one it was even longer in the original cut! According to wiki -Anderson said that his initial cut of the film, before the visual effects had been completed, ran to about 130 minutes in length. The film was even more graphic in this incarnation, and both test audiences and the studio were unnerved by the gore. Paramount ordered Anderson to cut the film by thirty minutes and delete some of the violence, a decision that he regrets. Some of the lost scenes were offered as special features on the 2006 DVD but were taken from poor quality video tape, the only format in which the scenes now exist; the studio had little interest in keeping unused footage and the film has since been lost.
Personally I'm sort of glad that cut off the movie was lost. I'm also a horror movie buff but there are some I don't need to see. This is one of those.
