Harvest Moon - Turquoise Valley By David Woodrum From Fish Wife Games & The Clement Sector Rpg Campaign Update

So for tonight's Clement Sector rpg session I needed a town & not just any town but one that double as a small colony station for use with the Rider rpg New Liberty setting. Enter David Woodrum's Turquoise Valley which just so happens to be in my que on Drivethrurpg.

" Built just outside of copper mining territory, Turquoise Valley enjoyed enough early success to allow the community to grow into a thriving little prairie town. Though still prosperous, there are signs that the economy is starting to slow down. Mayor McCarty has dreams of using his connection to the railroad company to establish a new train station in town. Being linked up to western railroad expansion is what the mayor believes will allow the community to survive and grow into a small city."

"Not everyone shares the mayor’s vision. Business entrepreneur Jacob Hound seeks to gain majority control over Turquoise Valley’s economic interests and these plans would further limit his influence. Mr. Hound’s business investments are doing just fine without such growth and the entrepreneur would love run Mr. McCarty out of town and assume the role of mayor. Unfortunately for Mayor McCarty his rival Mr. Hound has a few supporters in Turquoise Valley who are not afraid to dish out a few dirty deeds…"

Turquoise Valley’s economic interests & its positioning as an up & coming colony asset for the World of New Liberty makes it perfect to drag & drop into the Clement Sector's Rider settting. Why because of the fact that the Clement Sector is the new frontier in the black.

So in tonight's game the PC's are investigating the disappearance of miners just outside of Turquoise Valley. The town doctor has asked the PC's to investigate the local mine & has brought the PC's into town on his dime. Their staying at his spread just outside of town. The PC's were shown the dried & mummified  bodies of the miner's corpses. Nathan Cobb of Cobb's Drug Store has been helping the local doctor & the other newer  colonists. The sand mutants have been rendering the corpses of the miners down for valuable nutrients & other materials.

What the PC's don't know is the fact that sand mutants have been taking exception to the miners tunneling into their lair. The sand mutant use an armored recycle suit to move around on the surface of New Liberty.
The Sand Mutants # Appearing 1d6
7/15, Move 10m, Armor 2, Mace or Staff  (melee 2D damage) or Bow (ranged 2D damage). Physical-3, Survival-2. Infravision, light sensitivity. Random trinket.
The twist is that the Sand Mutants are actually the original colonists of New Liberty who through one of the radioactive storms of New Liberty were transformed into the Sand Mutants. That was 50 years ago & there's now their back to seek to revenge against the town. Turquoise Valley By David Woodrum From Fish Wife Games gives just enough information to allow the DM to insert this Old Western setting into their own campaigns. At twelve pages there's just enough to use for your games & its very easy to use.

Review & OSR Commentary Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson For The Clement Sector Rpg & Your Old School 2d6 Science Fiction rpg Campaign

 "We can rebuild you...

Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector details the use of cybernetics in the Clement Sector setting.  From those who hate and mistrust cybernetics, like those on Harrison, to the Caxtonists on Kingston who feel that cybernetics make them closer to God, you'll find it all in here.   While seen as a bit gauche in a setting where biological rebuilds are more accepted, cybernetics are still an important part of life in Clement Sector."

"Here you will find options to replace body parts, mind computers, hand computers, software, and much more.  Also included is the Cyberneticist career to allow you to create characters with deep experience with cyberware.

While, of course, this book is intended to support our vast Clement Sector setting, it can easily be used in any Cepheus Engine or 2d6 SF setting.

Get ready.  You'll be stronger, faster, better for it."

Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson is a key book for the Clement Sector rpg & the reason is the fact is the cybernetics & A.I. technologies feature front & center within this book. And given the fact that the Clement sector is such a dangerous interstellar frontier then it stands to reason why cybernetics & their  branching products are of such importance to PC's. Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson takes this & runs with it even further giving the DM the social implications on the various civiilizations of the Clement Sector. And cybernetics & its tecnologies have solid part & parcels within the interstellar laws of the Clement Sector itself.

Many of these cybernetic technologies are spectial to the Clement sector itself. And these technologies are significant to the sector. The implications for the Cybernetist career are very important as they can & will maintain the PC's cybernetic parts & systems. The Cybernetist career is a very important one as they take on the societies around the Clement sector.

Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson ties directly into the Clement Sector's Tech Update:2350! The mind technologies of the Clement sector have dark implications for the Cepheus Engine rpg's psychics! This links up for Earth sector & the Clement sector.

The interstellar cultural cross section of the Clement Sector works into the cybernetics & thier attendant technologies and here's where Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson shines.
Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson is a key Clement Sector rpg supplement & book. This means that a DM buying the book is going to get a supplement for both NPC's & PC's with maxiumin cybernetics & other related products coverage.  Is Interface: Cybernetics in Clement Sector By Michael Johnson worth your time as a Clement Sector rpg DM?! I believe so as it lays all of the cybernetic cards on the table for the DM to go all in with.

Thick of the Trade- - Bloody, Bloody, Arduin & The Empire of the Petal Throne Rpg

If there is any city in fantasy rpging that doesn't get the love that it deserves it's Talismondé the capital of the  Arduin proper campaign setting. The whole city is one big melting pot of the estoeric & erotic in one place. After reading through the classic Retro Rpg blog's entry on Talismondé my own thoughts began to bubble on this exotic port capital. This blog post is going to pick up directly from yesterday's blog here.

My own thoughts on Talismondé the capital of the  Arduin proper campaign setting is that its someplace between Rift's Atlantis & a Dark Ages 70's New York City. The influences of magick in the city would be incredible because of the Nexus Gate wars. The covers of the Arduin Grimoires bare this conceil out. Deodanths mix with humans & far more alien races in an urban atomosphere of decedence & neo  barbarianism.

If Arduin's Talismondé is one of the melting pots of the multiverse with interdimensional trade being one of the city's pillars of ecomomic stability then it changes quite a few of the usual Dungeons & Dragons conceils.
The Nexus Gates of Arduin would be very dangerous for adventurers to mess with. I have a feeling the city guard of Arduin are well versed in many of the multiverse's horrors & dangers. The events of Emperor of the Petal Throne's rpg collapse of their hyperspacial & dimensional gates caused demons, eldtrich horrors, and worse to come through.

The world of Arduin's Hermetic Order of Wizardry may boast more then a few member mage priests of  Tékumel within its inner circle or at least it does in my campaigns. And does the blowing over of the hyperspacial eddies, & dimensional animolies across Arduin and the mulitverse. Mean that  Arduin's Talismondé is open for business?!
Because if so then it means that the Clement sector's traders have more then a golden opportunity to open up one of the biggest intergalatic & interdimensional trade missions this side of the wormhole.

If exploritory space craft are blazing away across the old hyperspacial lanes exploring then there's a good chance that  Arduin's Talismondé might have a space port established upon its planetary shores. This idea goes right along with many of the staples of early Eighties 2d6 Science Fiction role playing. Something also got used right along with the world of Greyhawk box set back then as well. Where is Greyhawk in the Spinward Marches?! Wherever it's sector is?!

Nexus Portals - Bloody, Bloody, Arduin & The Empire of the Petal Throne Rpg

Finally we're done with the snowblowing for today. Here in Connecticut we got hit with a bit of last minute snow. And while tooling around on the snow blower the idea of Nexus portals or  gates from the Arduin Grimoire by David E. Hargrave.

If we're going to talk about the nexus portals of Arduin then we're going to delve into the mysteries of the multiverse. The fact is that over the years I've speculated that the failures of Arduin's Nexus portals may have been tied into disappearance of Tékumel, of the Empire of the Petal Throne rpg. The disappearance of Tékumel, may have screwed up the nexus system gates  for thousands of years. According to the Empire of the Petal Throne rpg Tekumel wiki entry; "Suddenly, in the 1120th century (according to Shawn Bond)[4] and for reasons unknown, Tékumel and its star system (Tékumel's two moons, Gayél and Káshi, its sun, Tuléng, and four other planets, Ülétl, Riruchél, Shíchel, and Zirúna) were cast out of our reality into a "pocket dimension" (known as a béthorm in Tsolyáni), in which there were no other star systems. One hypothesis is that this isolation happened through hostile action on the part of an unknown party or group. Another is that the cosmic cataclysm was due to over-use of a faster than light drive which warped the fabric of space. No one knows, but the inhabitants of Tékumel, both human, native, and representatives of the other star-faring races, were now isolated and alone. The novels contain vague clues as to what might have happened."

"Severed from vital interplanetary trade routes (Tékumel is a world very poor in heavy metals) and in the midst of a massive gravitic upheaval due to the lines of gravitational force between the stars being suddenly cut, civilization was thrown into chaos. The intelligent native species, the Hlǘss and the Ssú, broke free from their reservations and wars as destructive as the massive geographic changes ravaged the planet. Several other significant changes took place due to the crisis: mankind discovered it could now tap into ultraplanar energies that were seen as magical forces, the stars were gone from the sky, dimensional nexuses were uncovered and pacts with "demons" (inhabitants of dimensions near in n-dimensional space to Tékumel's pocket dimension) were made and a complex pantheon of "gods" (powerful extra-dimensional or multi-dimensional alien beings) discovered. Science began to stagnate until ultimately knowledge became grounded in traditions handed down from generations long ago, the belief that the universe was ultimately understandable slowly faded, and a Time of Darkness descended over the planet.

Much of Barker's writing concerns a time approximately 50,000 years after Tékumel has entered its pocket dimension"

So what happens when all of the hyperspacial eddies & waves calm down?! Could we actually see elements of Arduin showing up in other univeses?! Or could the hyper dimensional events of Empire of the Petal Throne actually be responsible for the collapse of the worm hole in the Clement sector rpg as the hyperspacial waves ripped across the planes?!

Anything is possible but the fact is the underlying idea of the collapse of such an extensive hyperspacial gateway system is going to echo across time & space. This means that thoericially there could be space craft trapped from EPT's hyperspacial folds or those of other realities.
Other anomlies could be the displacement of other reality inhabitants as hyperspacial folds or warps pick up random inhabitants from Arduin & deposit them on other worlds. This could easily be done using Sword of Cepheus rpg to bring your favorite Arduin rpg elements or adventure bits into your 2d6 fantasy.

These gates & keys could bring traders into from the Clement Sector rpg or other Cepheus Engine rpg campaign worlds. Only these ideas are limited as products of you & your player's imaginations.

Review & Commentary On Ships of Clement Sector 10-12: Workhorses By Michael Johnson For The Clement Sector rpg, Cepheus Engine rpg, & 2d6 Old School Science Fiction Rpg's

 "The workhorses get it done!

Ships of Clement Sector 10-12 compiles the tenth, eleventh and twelfth volumes of our popular PDF series. Included within this book are the Lee-class merchant vessel, the Fedpost mail courier, and the Broken Hill-class Prospector. We have also included the Wraith-class Intruder and the Venture-class Troop Transport, variants of the courier and the prospector respectively.

"Each ship is beautifully detailed with multiple views, detailed deckplans and full statistics. Also included are several NPCs and adventure hooks to get these vessels quickly and easily into your campaign.

While each of these ships has been specifically designed to fit into the Clement Sector setting, they could easily be used in other settings or within other science fiction RPGs if needed.

Get on board! Adventure awaits!"

Ships of Clement Sector 10-12: Workhorses By Michael Johnson covers some of the most iconic starships in the Clement Sector rpg. These starships are perfect for the Space Western campaign setting of the Clement Sector. The Lee-class merchant vessel, the Fedpost mail courier, and the Broken Hill-class Prospector are literally perfect to insert into an on going interstellar  campaign. Ships of Clement Sector 10-12: Workhorses  goes into some of the best & brightest starships that grace the star lanes of the Clement sector.  These starships are the worker's & blue collared ships that PC's are going to encounter in adventures in the Clement sector.

These starships are perfect for adventurers because they have small crews, are found throughout the Clement sector, and there are thousands of these starships models through out an interstellar space.  Ships of Clement Sector 10-12: Workhorses  is tightly written by Michael Johnson, it has good cartography, & goes into some stylistic details about each & every starship. Many of these starships take the same ideas that we saw about the troop transports that were used in the Old Western rail road expansion of the 1900's. This setting & adventure element is then expanded upon to fit the tight reign of the Clement sector campaign.
And this in turn feeds the DM's own campaign, and this is characteristic that we find in many Independence Games products.
Ships of Clement Sector 10-12: Workhorses  is a solid & very well written & designed book which I highly recommend for any Clement or Earth sector DM who wants to go into very fine details within their campaigns.

Review & Commentary On Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent-class Destroyer By Michael Johnson For The Clement Sector rpg, Cepheus Engine Rpg & 2d6 Old School Science Fiction Rpg Campaigns

"The Ships of Clement Sector series presents a ship from the rich history of Clement Sector.

"The Trent-class destroyer is a reaction drive vessel used by the United States Space Navy in the early days of colonization into Clement Sector.  The 1500-tonne destroyer was launched in 2185 to provide security and to protect the United States' fledgling interstellar colonies. The Trent-class was the most capable of the first generation reaction drive interstellar warships."

"Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent comes co mplete with beautiful views of the Trent as well as full deckplans and statistics to make your use of the product simple, easy, and fun.  The book also comes with deck plans and views of the ship's boat and work pod.  Also included are adventure seeds to help Referees get their characters involved with the action immediately.  Though designed specifically with our Clement Sector setting in mind, the Trent could easily be used in any science fiction setting"

Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent - class Destroyer By Michael Johnson is one of those books that you as a DM don't think that you'll ever need & then you start to read through it. And the Trent is a perfect ship to use as a hyperspace 'wreck' in my upcoming campaign. When the wormhole from Earth collapsed not every starship escaped their fate. At least this is how is going to be in my upcoming Clement sector campaign. So what makes Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent class Destroyer By Michael Johnson an excellent Clement Sector book?!  Well other then the tight writing, excellent layout, fantastic blue prints, and diagrams of the Trent?!?
Well the Trent is about as close as I've seen to a historic war starship with all of the classic hall marks. The Trent is a beast from another time and its a planet killer without a doubt. And what strikes me about the Trent is how well its developed from its history, background, type, and its time period in the Clement Sector. The Trent might as well be a time capasule from another time period. A relic of a less civilized time period as it were. The Trent class Destroyer is stop gap star ship that marks the end of the Earth era as it were.

The Trent class Destroyer historically has its analogy in my humble opinion as the 'iron clads' have had in the Amrerican Civil War. The Trent class destoryer marks a point in history where everything for the Earth Sector & the Clement sector changes.
And then everything changes for star ship design changes in volumes acrosss the board and there is so much about the Trent Destoryer that up points it as a beast of history for the Clement sector. Is the 39 page overview & book Historical Ships of Clement Sector 1: Trent class Destroyer By Michael Johnson good & proper on the table top level?! In my humble opinion definitely! This is strong recommend to grab this one!

Review & Commentary On Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector Third Edition By John Watts For The Clement Sector rpg, Cepheus Engine Rpg & 2d6 Old School Science Fiction Rpg Campaigns

Are you ready to alter your experience?

Altrants are defined as groups of humans which have been genetically manipulated to have abilities different than a baseline human. These changes were most often made to allow humans to be able to perform tasks or live in environments which would be difficult or impossible for baseline humans.

Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector details altrants, how and why they came into being, how they deal with humans and uplifts, and what sort of lives they live within Clement Sector.  Tree of Life expands on the information provided in Clement Sector and introduces you to new altrant types such the Siren, the Khailt, and the Baaz.

In addition, Tree of Life brings you the ability to not only alter existing human and uplift characters but also provides you with a system to create your own altrant types.  Humans in Clement Sector have long had the ability to make alterations to their bodies and now your characters will be able to make changes as well.

Tree of Life is intended for use with the Clement Sector setting and rules but could be easily adapted for use with any science fiction rules or setting."

Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector is an eighty  three page book by John Watts for the Clement Sector rpg or Cepheus Engine. The book covers genetically modified colonists, clones, and altrant types for the Clement sector along with uplifted animal types. The book is very much set within the Clement sector & its a very well put together book with rules, roles, and types of options for creating your own specialized  altrant types. This is the third edition of Tree of life enabling the DM to keep up with updates to the third edition of the Clement system. Could Tree of Life be used with other 2d6 old school or Cepheus Engine rpg games?! Easily and this is one of the joys of the Tree of Life.

What Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector By John Watts allows the DM to do is to create Altrants to suit their own campaign for both NPC's & for player's PC's. We get a full on treatment of the various abilities, careers, options, roles, & PC trait options. And its well put together with artwork, solid layout, and good cartography throughout. And as an under class the Altrants are both resource & relied upon class for the banks, corporations, and colonies within the Clement system. Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector By John Watts does is present the Altrants in their own book & within their own light.

And even in the Earth sector the Altrants could provide a critical & put upon class of humanoid. Why?! Because the Altrants are fitted out for the nation states of Earth to create their own colonists modified to fit upon their interstellar planetary colonies. They can claim these as their own.
In the Clement sector, the Altrants are the perfect 'Mayflower' colonists shaped to their own environments & making gains on the humans by leaps & bounds over humanity. But all is not 'wine & roses' because the Altrants are starting to realize their own from colonists to gene shaped parts across the Clement sector. Is humanity's days numbered?! Yes & no,  because the Altrants are getting thier own in art, politics, and even within the corporate world. Humanity is facing down a power that it has created within  its own reach. The economics of the Altrants isn't lost on one whose studied the American Civil War. The Altrants are a power block that affecting far more then they seem. They are not an NPC analogy of the 'American African slave' but instead a true power block created within the Clement sector's humancentric corporate heirarchy. Is
Tree of Life: Altrants in Clement Sector Third Edition By John Watts For The Clement Sector rpg worth the price of admission?! In a word yes! The writing is spot on, the interstellar tension rings true within the Clement & Earth sectors.
