Privait Con 2017 came off in the hills of North Western Connecticut today without a hitch. What is Privait Con? Well its a small gathering of like minded OSR war gamers & OSR Dungeons & Dragons players for a private Con that's been happening for around five years solid now. About fifteen people showed up in today in Litchfield Ct at an undisclosed location. Its been happening for those who couldn't make North Texas Con & Gary Gon, Privait Con always happens right after Halloween each year.
Today I got a chance to try some new beers & get in a game or two of Avalon Hill's Wooden Ships & Ironmen
I lost spectacularly but it was a great game to have a chance to play again.
Since the Con was already going on for three days prior to my Sunday slot I had agreed to run a classic adventure with an AS&SH twist to get the blood pumping.
Cover blurb for The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth
I DM's some Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea second edition using The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth in full competition mode. The PC's were investigating rumors of treasure west of the capital of Hyperborea. We lost three PC's in the wilderness just outside of the dungeon complex & things went wickedly from there. This adventure took up a good chunk of my afternoon and into the evening. Everything came off without a hitch and it was a solid little private Con held by friends!
I ran S4 The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth By Gary Gygax as if it was a part of my 'Old Earth' setting where S4 takes place as a part of Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique cycle in the far future. The PC's heard rumors that the second that Drelzna awakens she's going to revive the cults that were responsible for the imprisoned god Tharizdun & bring the horrors of the Black Cyst upon the face of 'Old Earth' as a part of the rumors of the adventure. But the wilderness had a minor statue to Thasaidon "black god of evil", "the archfiend", "lord of the seven hells beneath the earth". But it was the Tcho Tcho mercenaries in the wild that claimed the lives of the party's wizard, thief, and slayer. This cost the players in the long run on the dungeon levels. The other players brought in new PC's and they plowed and powered on through the dungeon levels but it cost them another wizard & a necromancer!
But what really seemed to draw the player's attention was the Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea Second edition hardback that one of the players had received as a part of his Kickstarter reward.
Here's my review of the pdf but if you don't believe it then check out those Drivethrurpg reviews here. My oh not so subtle suggestion is to grab your copy before they disappear for awhile my experiences with small style print and gaming runs over the years has been interesting.
One of the AS&SH second edition hardbacks from Jeff's G+ page.
All in all Privait Con 2017 was a pretty solid event this year for our OSR gamer's group and next year promises to be better! So that's all from the Northwest corner of Connecticut on a Sunday evening!

"In the Yatil Mountains south of Perrenland there is rumored to be a
magical hoard of unsurpassed value, a treasure of such fame that scores
of adventurers have perished in search of it. Find the perilous Lost
Caverns of Tsojcanth and you may gain the hidden wealth of the long-dead
arch-mage — if you live."
