The two adventurers crawled along the rocky shore. Ran'an The Reckless was still looking for purchase when his partner cried out!
'Look at this!' the small Pict warrior called 'Del of the Hill People' had found a strange crystal that was the size and shape of a human skull.
It glowed with an evil pulsing internal light!
That alone made it weird and more then a small curiosity piece for the tourists and city state posh scum.
'Be careful with that my friend it looks very dangerous!'
And that's when the two friends heard and felt in their mind the aching terror of a primal scream of weird insanity made by an inhuman alien throat!
'Run for your life!'
'If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous
pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be
unfaithful to the spirit of the thing. A pulpy, tentacled head
surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings... It
represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an
octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly,
rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long,
narrow wings behind. This thing, which seemed instinct with a fearsome
and unnatural malignancy, was of a somewhat bloated corpulence...
— H.P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"'
When the stars come right the ancient monster god Kulullu shall rise from his tomb city & stride across the world of men ravening & causing untold destruction upon the face of 'Old Earth'. The corpse city of R'lyeh has been seen rising and bobbing with the earthquakes & rumbles of pain of this planet. Already many ancient relics have washed up upon the shores of many beaches from the half forgotten city of damned gods.

Each day the cult of Kulullu grows stronger as more people fall under the dream song of the monster god. Men and women wake up screaming in bloody terror or awaken in strange insane dreams of blood, violence, and murder. They are corrupt beings who hear the song and its alien vibrations echoing through the sub space of reality.

"The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.
— H. P. Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu" (1928)"
