Review Of The Old School Science Fiction Resource - Daybreak 2250 A.D By Andre Norton For Your Old School Post Apocalyptic Campaign

I've begun rereading one of my favorite Andre Norton books Daybreak -2250 about the mutant silver hair boy Flors and his empathically bonded mutant cat Lura. Flors is on a rite of passage a familiar theme in Norton's books. The fact is that Flors is more then a little green when he sets out into the wide world of his post apocalyptic Earth.
The book is well written, breezy, and a quick read. This book is essential reading for any DM running a post apocalyptic campaign. Even though the book was written in 1952 and the ruins in the book have a distinctly Fifties feel about them. There is a lot to recommend this book.
Flors is trying to prove himself as a Star Man, a part explorer, ruin seeker, looter, and general post apocalyptic explorer almost along the lines of a ranger.
The story really gives a great overview of the world of Flors taking place about two hundred years after the destruction of mankind.

There is definitely an element of Thundarr's world about the novel but its light years ahead of that fare in some respects. There's a real sense of exploration and the struggle for survival about this one. If you can find it in a physical copy, do yourself a favor and grab this one.
Flors is a very believable hero and Lura is the kind of animal that I'd love to have at my side if I was exploring the world of Mutant Future or any post apocalypse world.
There is a ton of material in this one to use.
